- In the year of our Lord 2041 AD, the monsters came from the sky.
- Misshapen, stick-limbed, screaming in the tongue of God, the Others have besieged the earth for nearly two years. They have ravaged population centers, scarred the countryside, and brought misery and panic to the people of Earth. No-one knows where they come from, but their purpose is clear – descend from the stars like comets, destroy as much as possible, and then retreat. Conventional military forces were useless – and as the monsters came more and more frequently, it became less and less feasible to fight back.
- Then, a miracle happened.
- A new weapon was developed. Giant humanoid frames, massive titans bestriding the earth. Powered by nuclear fission, controlled by singular pilots, they were designed to be the first and last response to the threat looming from space.
- They worked. The first mecha, created just six months after the appearance of the first monster, made its first kill a few miles off the coast of Shanghai. Since then, every country has pooled its resources together, mankind uniting in defence of each other, to create the Jericho Foundation – a paramilitary branch dedicated to defending the planet from the invaders, and discovering their secrets.
- Some may wonder how humanity responded so quickly to the threat, or where the monsters come from. But in a world at war, there’s no time to ask questions…

- Hello, I’m The Deleter. Let us make giant robots punch giant monsters!
- THE BREACH is a Fate Core game where dysfunctional people pilot giant robots to fight an extraterrestrial monsters. If this sounds familiar, this is basically every mecha show or movie ever. That’s not to say there won’t be twists along the way, though.
- If you’re interested, check below for details on the characters. DEADLINE FOR ENTRANTS IS AT *insert date here*
- Character Creation
- Characters have five aspect phases (including an Archetype and a Dysfunction), 4 skill points per phase, refresh at the end of every “scene” (denoted by a big bold END SCENE) and have a skill cap of superb. I’m looking for characters that are interesting, have a good gimmick and/or add to the worldbuilding (more later).
- Your character works for the Jericho Foundation, a paramilitary organisation specializing in the research and combat efforts against the extraterrestrial monsters, dubbed Others, that threaten Earth. Jericho is also the primary outsourcing for the construction and maintenance of the mecha, which are commissioned by various governments and corporations. Think XCom, NERV from Evangelion, the Jaeger programme, pretty much along those lines.
- The first two phases are:
- Archetype: pretty much a High Concept but more specific. Are you the arrogant but talented pilot who doesn’t play by the rules? Are you the blustery technical dude? Are you the improbably large Russian lady with a fondness for improbably large weapons? Have you watched any anime at all in the past six weeks? You get the picture.
- Dysfunction: you have to be a bit mad to want to pilot a giant robot! What’s your problem? Got a crippling phobia? An Other stepped on your parents? Terrible at relationships? Trees out to get you?
- The next three should probably go along these lines, but you can alter them to fit your character more.
- Backstory: How you grew up, what your life was like, etc.
- Recruitment: What made you join the Jericho foundation?
- Noteable achievements: You’re not vets, but you’re no greenhorns either. Did your character do anything noteworthy in their early months at Jericho?
- SKILLS
- ~skill stuff here i guess~
- SCENE DETAILS
- SOME QUESTIONS
- Can I be an anime?
- This whole thing is anime as fuck, so sure. Whilst Japanese cartoons and I don’t get along much, feel free to get some blue hair action going on.
- There’s not much detail about the setting! What’s going on?
- For some of it, I’m keeping a few details as spoilers as of now (as you can probably guess from the opening blurb). Other parts, however, are going the Dungeon World route – players can contribute to the setting through their backstories, actions and anything they mention in play. Do keep in mind that this is pretty much normal planet Earth with giant robots and monsters added on, so nothing too outlandish or involving time-travel or whatever, please!
- Can I punch –
- Yes.
- Seriously?
- If at any point you ask yourself “can I solve this problem or improve the situation by punching it,” the answer is always yes.
