Social networks are intagible and often big. Simple memes are needed to communicate most effectively. Hence why we tend to prefer simple ideas of moral judgement or right/wrong. Because adopting a sliding scale explicitly is too complicated, lets big bad actors get away with stuff, and also people make nuanced allowances for people they know anyway.
