2014-08-01 Workshop: essay structure

Introduction paragraph:
	- background information
	- main thesis statement (what position will I take?)
Each body paragraph:
	- topic sentence about each reason
	- some additional details about that reason
	- my own counterargument
	- additional details about my argument
Conclusion:
	- first sentence restates the main thesis statement
	- then some advice for readers in the future

Notes:
- we often use three body paragraphs, because two is not enough to feel like strong support of the main idea, and many more can be distracting or disconnected.
- many paragraphs start with transition words, such as "first", "finally" (for the last body paragraph), "in conclusion" (for the conclusion paragraph)
