- KING: Are you here to kill me?
- : I am.
- KING: Fair enough. It is well past my time.
- : You aren't afraid.
- KING: Should I be? You are but a child.
- : I am grown. You are old. We are all children to you.
- KING: Have you ever been in love, child?
- : Have you?
- KING: No.
- : What was her name? The one you weren't in love with?
- KING: Rhoswen. I was younger than you are. This land was beautiful then.
- : So I've heard.
- KING: Was I a good king? I think I was, for awhile. I stayed too long.
- : Would you give me the Grail, or should I take it from you?
- KING: It doesn't work that way, child. I couldn't give up the Grail now if I wanted to. I wish you could understand.
- : Understand what? You lived as a king, fat and happy in a palace of gold, while your people had nothing.
- KING: Yes. Nothing grows here anymore. The people starved. And then I was alone. You've never been in love?
- : No.
- KING: You have friends, family. A dog and a cat that you play with, the way a child plays.
- : I was not that kind of child. As long as I've had memory the Grail has called my name.
- KING: What a shame.
- : I had a dog.
- KING: And now you will have my palace. I wonder. Will you give my gold to the people, or keep it for yourself until it's worthless?
- : How many died? How many people died because they needed a leader and instead they got you? They cried out for help and you gave them nothing.
- KING: I had nothing to give.
- : You sit on a golden throne.
- KING: If I had a chance to start over again ... What was your dog's name?
- : Does it matter?
- KING: I suppose not. What a shame.
- : I will restore this land to its former glory.
- KING: Yes? And how will you do that?
- : By being better than you were.
