  1. Super Metroid Challenge Run #1
  2.
  3. Start Date: 1/12/19
  4. Submission Deadline: 1/26/19 Midnight PST
  5.
  6. Hi all! This is the first in a series of challenge runs that I'll be hosting periodically so long as interest lasts. The idea is simple:
  7.
  8. Periodically, an organizer will have an idea for a race goal that isn't designed to be a puzzle. The organizer will announce the race goal at a predetermined time, after giving sufficient notice of that time. The racers will then have 2 weeks to prepare a video recording of their best attempt at completing the goal and send it in to the organizer.
  9.
  10. When the deadline is up, the organizer will spend some time going through the videos for legitimacy and to make a cohesive video that will be streamed to /supermetroidevents, and uploaded to a youtube account (TBD).
  11.
  12. Prizes :
  13. (1. In order to be eligible for prize money, you must pay an entry fee of $2.
  14. 2. This entry fee will go directly back into the prize pool.
  15. 3. RTA and TAS will have 2 separate prize pools, for each respective entrant.
  16. 4. You aren't obliged at all to pay an entry fee, you can still enter, you just won't be able to receive prize money. You will still be featured on the restream when its published.)
  17. 5.
  18. Fastest RTA Run: $25 + 75% of the entry fees for RTA entrants.
  19. 2nd Place RTA Run: 25% of the entry fees for RTA entrants
  20. Fastest TAS Run: $25 + 100% of the entry fees for TAS entrants.
  21. Most Swag / Creative RTA Run (to be voted on by each entrant when submissions are publicly revealed): $25
  22.
  23. So without further ado, here is this event's challenge:
  24.
  25.
  26.
  27.
  28. Your submission video must be formatted appropriately to count:
  29. 1. It must be gameplay video and timer only. please don't obstruct gameplay with your timer.
  30. 2. You must only have gameplay audio.
  31. 3. Please have at least a few seconds before the run starts, and after the run ends for editing purposes.
  32.
  33. FAQ:
  34. Q: Where do I submit entry fees?
  35. A: Until I find a better alternative, just donate to my paypal (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=MRKH3WK2JM2TS&source=url) with a comment saying that "1. this is an entry into the SM Challenge Race #1," and "2. This is a RTA or TAS entry."
  36.
  37. Q: How long will it take to make the cohesive video and stream?
  38. A: That depends on how many people enter, but this is a socially busy time of the year for me. I'll do my best to make it under 2 weeks, but that may change. I'll keep you posted via the SRL SM Discord.
  39.
  40. Q: Where is the $75 coming from in the original prize pool?
  41. A: That's supplied by me, the organizer. That prize pool will remain that amount for this first Challenge Run, but it may change in future runs, based on community interest in participating in these events!
  42.
  43. Q: How do we receive prize pool money if we win?
  44. A: You must be eligible to receive money, either via Paypal or some other payment service. I'll make every effort to ensure you get whats yours. :)
  45.
  46. Q: Where do I host my submitted videos for the organizer to download?
  47. A: Recommended sites: unlisted Youtube videos, archive.org, dropbox, any other file hosting site. You're more than welcome to stream your attempts, but be forewarned, this is a competition, and people may steal your ideas or strategies, making you less likely to win. I love the community work ethic in speedrunning, but try to keep it bottled in for these two weeks so we can enjoy all the cool and varied strategies every person comes up with!
  48.
  49. If you have any further questions, please @ me in the SRL SM discord, or if its a private question, DM me instead (andrew#0238)
