- The suns rays pierced through the skies effortlessly in their venture to the ground below, reflecting off the sloshing waters which moved oh-so gracefully amidst a sea of blue. The white foam which appeared as each wave peaked and fell back into the surface of the ocean added a sort of treachery to the view. The ocean in the sky was void of cloud or blemish, a perfect day for fishing. As the boat rocked gently upon the ever-shifting waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the winds stirred and blew the ocean from normalcy into a state of panic in mere moments. Waves washed against the sides of the boat rather harshly, every so often a loud slapping would echo from the breaches. The fisherman’s lines had already been cast, flowing and turning with each alteration of the current. It would seem nothing would be caught that day as there had been not even a bite for the longest time.
- As each of the fisherman sat and waited… and waited… and waited. The first sign of life emerged in that of a single soft tug on one of the lines, it could hardly be seen, and felt at that. Ahab, the lead fisherman’s fingers curled slowly amongst the girth of his fishing pole. Feeling the vibrations of little jaws clamping on the tender bait which strung his hook. Waiting for the precise timing which would indefinitely alter the course of the night. In his head the numbers scrolled in a countdown. 3. 2. 1. His knees bent and back arched as his elbows locked against his torso and he yanked up vehemently upon the rod, the hook snared the jaw of whatever was gliding through the abyssal waters below. The waves at this point had arisen to peaks of around 4 feet, slapping against the sides of the boat quite harshly. The line pulled taut and then began to drag outwards as the sheer strength of the creature below ran with the bait like a racehorse straight out of the gates.
- The skies opened abruptly, and water fell from its release, drenching the earth in a blanket of cold. They grew overcast and dark; quite the terrifying scene as lightning ripped through the skies and cracked the air. Leaving trails of aureate fractures across the darkness, spider webbing throughout the chasm of the skies. An omen, something was bound to happen that nobody had planned for, this storm was awesome in its fury. Winds howled and billowed across the rickety seas, blowing the whitecaps off the sea itself and coating the fishermen, who at this point began bracing themselves against the boat. Except for Griffin, he stood superciliously at the stern, eyes scanned the blackened horizon as he held onto his pole, never granting the monstrous creature below the satisfaction of winning. He was a strong-willed man, never once did losing this trophy cross his mind, he had nothing to lose and would fight till the end.
- Captain Griffin was a burlesque old man broken down by the unforgiving sea, and so he stood there weathering the storm. Wind whipped against his figure and dragged his long bear within the wind. The heavy downfall of rain washed against his rigid frame; soaking him to the bone. He never once faltered in his posture. His undying spirit was quite the flame which burned ever brilliantly inside him. He yearned for the fight; craved the struggle which was soon to entail. His fingers curled ever so tight around the girth of his pole; feeling the pull of the fish, it lashed out in a tenacious frenzy of jerks and yanks. Switching direction as it darted out into open sea; the length of the pole bent at an unfathomable arc, sweeping out over the boat, nearly touching the water. He bellowed in a brash voice “I will not fail! You will be mine! “The stern look of confidence crossed his face and held his countenance. He would not lose this battle.
- As the moonlight found its way to the sea through the treachery and chaos; it reflected off something massive. Almost larger than the boat itself it would seem to Captain Griffin, the stern look of determination only grew fiercer as his lips curled taut over an arsenal of weathered teeth. A hearty laugh bellowed from his gullet as he yanked upwards on the line, drawing the creature into fit as it tossed and turned below the sea, sending great wake up to the surface. The force rippled the man’s muscles and caused adrenaline to leak down his spine like a bad faucet. The lightning ripped through the skies and thunder roared in the wind. The silver creature below the vast expanse of inky darkness writhed in torment, more powerful than anything Captain Griffin has ever faced.
- An intense match of brute strength took place; yanking and tugging in an attempt to over-power the ferocious beast which dwelled beneath the waves ensued. It seemed that Captain Griffin was no match, as if his efforts were simply futile, and then there it was. A massive eye peered upwards from beneath the surf; meeting the stern gaze of Griffin with matched intensity. They stared into the depths of the others soul, as if a pact was made.. The one whom won this battle would dawn the mantle of King of the Ocean. This eye, the one he stared so insouciant into, was giant. About 3 feet in diameter, he had no idea the creature on the end of his line was this massive. It was overwhelming, Griffin had yet to encounter something of this size. He never once thought he was outmatched though, surely he could brave the seas and claim his title of King.
