- Darwinbots: An enigmatic group of Von Neumann probes created by a human-based group who has, seemingly, vanished. Their name is not their true name, but was given to them due to their ability to adapt to many, many situations, and how they act like a bastardized form of life. A colony of them exists in the equivalent of the Oort Cloud in this system. They have a crude write up on my machine, and will get their own page eventually.
- Post-Insanity Event: An unnamed transapient, who was previously the one who terraformed this world, decided to... unleash hell on this world by creating various genetically engineered abominations. The worst introduction was a biomechanical organism derived from Darwinbot code and rat stem cells.
- Post-Interventionist Event: The world would be wrestled out of the other transapient's hands, and put in the care of another, more powerful one, who decided to act as a rudimentary caretaker god. To try and clamp down on the abominations created, various organisms were introduced with the hopes of slowing down a worst-case scenario event, if it does happen, which is a biomechanical grey-goo event. In addition, they planted a kill-switch device within the crust of the planet, powered by geothermal heat, so that should the worst happen, it can be activated. On top of this, a radiation-powered beacon that signals in all directions instructions on how to turn on the kill-switch was planted in a lava tube of the largest moon. This beacon was created should the new transapient no longer be capable of caring for the world, and contains the capacity to broadcast such news, as well.
- Kill-Switch: A massive, geothermal powered device under the crust of the planet, that if activated, unleashes a massive EMP across the planet and extends to as far as the orbit of Constrictor, allowing it to be used to deter mostly machine-based hostiles, or if the Darwinbot colony gets any ideas. However, it is only usable once, for afterwards, it is believed it would be destroyed just from its own strength, despite being hardened in of itself. This is also capable of emitting a polymorphic computer virus, as well, that is designed to target biomechanical beings, should any survive. When activated, the Kill-Switch first transmits a polymorphic coded-virus across the entire planet and sends it out even as far as into orbit of Dimple-Surface, as a precautionary measure. At the same time, it sends out a warning through a connection with the Beacon on Dimple-Surface, stating that a purge of a grey goo scenario is going on, and that the area is not safe. This signal is sent throughout the entire system and nearby systems. After the virus has been sent throughout the entire planet, it activates the EMP, creating the massive Electrical Storms that are expected to ravage any biomechanicals on the surface.
- Polymorphic code: This is simply code that changes itself every time it runs. For instance, it may alter how it tries to reach a value of 4, as a really minor example. This type of code can be very sinister in the right hands, as it can create very horrid viruses. However, it has potential other uses, such as forms of encryption.
- Beacon: Hidden under the surface of Dimple-Surface, this constantly sends out a signal on how to activate the Kill-Switch should the biomechanical beings introduced here evolve into a grey goo form. This also contains ways of sending out other signals, such as if the current resident pseudo-caretaker god suddenly becomes incapable of helping out the planet in question.
- Electrical Storms: A phenomena that can be created through usage of the Kill-Switch, these are the result of it in action, rapidly altering the weather and supercharging the atmosphere with electricity, along with creating massive hellish storms. The entire planet becomes pelted by bolts of lightning, with basically no place being safe. This would likely create a mass extinction event in of itself, on top of potentially wiping out the biomechanicals.
- Biomechanicals/Biomechanical beings/Biomechanical organisms/Biomechanical entities.: A form of syntech derived from a mixture of Darwinbot source code and rat stem cells, these beings are a mix of both living and machine parts. Their "genome" is odd, consisting of both their source code and actual genes, which are passed onto the next generation. The ratio of organic to mechanical parts can vary between species. The ancestral form had a spider-like body, and has now radiated out into various arthropod-like forms. However, despite their nature, they still need to eat, and such, to keep their bodies functional. They have been found to not have been hardened against EMP-based attacks at all, hence why the Kill-Switch was devised.
