  1. [2016-04-28 15:50:24] <Antioch|GM> The PRT van speeds towards the eastern edge of Cleveland -- in it are Gigawatt, Valiant, and the third squad.
  2. [2016-04-28 15:50:24] <Antioch|GM> Jetstream and Feral are inbound, hoping to delay Blackjack's pursuit of the target long enough for the main force to catch up.
  3. [2016-04-28 15:51:19] <Antioch|GM> Blackjack is, apparently, going after the boyfriend (?) of the supervillain Killhand, as retribution for her defecting to the Protectorate.
  4. [2016-04-28 15:51:32] <Antioch|GM> To Gretchen, it's largely a bunch of convoluted bullshit she doesn't care about.
  5. [2016-04-28 15:52:32] <Antioch|GM> What matters is that Mortal Lock, the drone Tinker, Gutshot, the force-amplifying Striker, and a newcomer cape to Cleveland (the console tells her his name is Seismic Surfer, a Mover/Shaker that creates a growing tide of rubble and debris) got away, largely due to the intervention of the latter.
  6. [2016-04-28 15:54:11] <Antioch|GM> Electrocuting the living fuck out of Gutshot was the rush she'd been craving, after the initial edge of the cocaine she took before going into work wore off, but letting them get away was akin to the worst of the crashes she's had.
  7. [2016-04-28 15:54:11] <Antioch|GM> It's her chance to get a second shot at the fuckers. ||
  8. [2016-04-28 15:56:06] <SCG|Gigawatt> ...
  9. [2016-04-28 15:58:07] <SCG|Gigawatt> ((er, what are the squads and valiant's positions?))

  11. [2016-04-28 15:58:41] <Antioch|GM> ((Just in the car, for the moment.))
  12. [2016-04-28 15:58:52] <Antioch|GM> ((Everyone's seated, getting ready to hop out once they close the gap.))
  13. [2016-04-28 15:59:26] <SCG|Gigawatt> ((I mean in the car.))
  14. [2016-04-28 15:59:34] <SCG|Gigawatt> ((fuck it, i got this.))
  15. [2016-04-28 15:59:42] <Antioch|GM> ((You're seated next to Valiant, and the two of you are closest to the rear door.))
  16. [2016-04-28 15:59:56] <SCG|Gigawatt> ((damn it not what I would have chosen, but i can work it.))
  17. [2016-04-28 16:03:52] <SCG|Gigawatt> Gigawatt was hoping to sit next to the squads, but needed to be in position for a sudden exit. Shock and awe from the get-go, of course. She's felt more drawn to them in general, than the heroes she works with. Cape life is still new to her, after all. She misses the familiar.
  18. [2016-04-28 16:04:39] <SCG|Gigawatt> Maybe she'll buy them a round later, if they all make it out. Probably not the best thought to have, but not one she can avoid.
  19. [2016-04-28 16:04:52] ⇐ Cxaxakluth quit (uid126610@brockwell.irccloud.com): Quit: Connection closed for inactivity
  20. [2016-04-28 16:05:56] <SCG|Gigawatt> She moves to check her weapon, before remembering she has none, chuckling. Familiar and unfamiliar, all at the same time,
  21. [2016-04-28 16:09:36] <SCG|Gigawatt> She doesn't want to fail again.
  22. [2016-04-28 16:10:08] <SCG|Gigawatt> ||
  23. [2016-04-28 16:12:15] <Antioch|GM> "Feral incoming," one of the squaddies says. He waves Gigawatt over, gesturing at a small console display in the van. It's an aerial street map of Cleveland, three digital blips on the screen.
  24. [2016-04-28 16:12:50] <Antioch|GM> The red one's Feral, the white one with the suit of clubs is Blackjack, and the white one with the winged aegis of the PRT on it is you guys.
  25. [2016-04-28 16:13:23] <Antioch|GM> Feral seems practically on top of Blackjack, it seems, as she edges closer to the squaddies to get a better view of the screen.
  26. [2016-04-28 16:13:36] <Antioch|GM> She's one of the teammates that Gigawatt doesn't have to worry about losing, fortunately. ||
  27. [2016-04-28 16:14:30] <SCG|Gigawatt> ((What's our ETA?))
  28. [2016-04-28 16:14:57] <Antioch|GM> ((Slightly less than two minutes. They're flooring it.))
  29. [2016-04-28 16:16:32] <SCG|Gigawatt> ...
  30. [2016-04-28 16:18:26] <SCG|Gigawatt> She watches the screen intently, waiting for their arrival. Nothing she has to say seems worth it, at the moment. Everyone knows the deal. She settles into a comfortable silence, ||
  31. [2016-04-28 16:21:24] <Antioch|GM> The two pips on the screen that aren't yours slow noticeably but seem to remain on course. Perhaps, after the fact, she might get to know the men and women behind the squad uniform a little better, as she knows better than to distract from a crucial operation.
  32. [2016-04-28 16:21:24] <Antioch|GM> As it stands now, she only recognizes the one -- Sinclair, the squad member who seems to be leaned upon for medical attention.
  33. [2016-04-28 16:21:46] <Antioch|GM> Her thoughts are interrupted by Valiant's hand on her shoulder.
  34. [2016-04-28 16:21:46] <Antioch|GM> "We're getting close. Be ready." ||
  35. [2016-04-28 16:25:54] <SCG|Gigawatt> She grins visibly. "I'm ready." ||
  36. [2016-04-28 16:28:02] <Antioch|GM> As the target slows, the gap between the squad van and Blackjack decreases.
  37. [2016-04-28 16:28:02] <Antioch|GM> "The drones are too far, I'm thinking," Valiant says, "but how do you feel about taking down the Tinker?" ||
  38. [2016-04-28 16:29:14] <SCG|Gigawatt> "If I can get in range, I'll take him out." ||

  41. [2016-04-28 16:35:02] <Antioch|GM> "Heads up, guys, they're in sight," the squad leader -- Harmon, she recalls -- speaks up.
  42. [2016-04-28 16:35:44] <Antioch|GM> Sure enough, outside of the car, she can see the Blackjack vehicle limping along the side of the road, a spherical kludge of containment foam attempting the glue it to the ground.
  43. [2016-04-28 16:36:46] <Antioch|GM> The highway is mostly, but not quite, clear, some cars still clinging to the rightmost lane and trying to slip by, and, she notes, some rubberneckers on the shoulder.
  44. [2016-04-28 16:37:39] <Antioch|GM> "Englebrecht, take out their tires," he instructs -- the squaddie responds "yessir," hauling herself up to the roof aperture, and begins firing.

  68. [2016-04-28 17:00:45] <Antioch|GM> Despite the sudden ascent and lateral motion, she maintains her balance easily, letting the electricity flow through her arms as she does so. Now several yards above the highway, she's in a prime position to unleash electrical hell on the vehicle in its entirety. ||
  69. [2016-04-28 17:01:50] <SCG|Gigawatt> "Hey Blackjack!" She screams, "TASTE MY LIGHTNING FUCKERS!" She unleashes hell. ||

  77. [2016-04-28 17:07:05] <Antioch|GM> One of the passengers in the rear seat, poking his head out to take a potshot at Gigawatt, quickly ducks back in. ||

  82. [2016-04-28 17:09:15] <Antioch|GM> It's either his reflexes or his knowledge that fails him, but his arm visibly convulses -- still in contact with the frame of the car when the lightning strikes -- and the gun drops onto the highway from a palsied, twitching hand. ||
  83. [2016-04-28 17:09:44] <SCG|Gigawatt> Fuck yeah! She's not getting shot again!

  85. [2016-04-28 17:11:03] <Antioch|GM> Valiant's construct ferries her closer to the car, while the squad car, too, approaches.
  86. [2016-04-28 17:11:57] <Antioch|GM> She's far closer, at this point, and the aiming proves to be far less difficult.

  90. [2016-04-28 17:13:33] <Antioch|GM> She can see her arm noticeably fissure as lightning pours out of them, washing over the vehicle almost in its entirety.
  91. [2016-04-28 17:14:56] <Antioch|GM> The taillights explode almost immediately -- then burst into flame. The car's occupants, having seemingly learned their lesson, cower inside the vehicle.
  92. [2016-04-28 17:15:37] <Antioch|GM> The passenger-side door, slightly gunked up by foam, gets booted off all of a sudden, skidding out into the middle of the highway, and Mortal Lock steps out - his weight makes the vehicle shift very noticeably.
  93. [2016-04-28 17:16:18] <Antioch|GM> Without preamble, he levels a longarm at Gigawatt. The tip of the barrel begins glowing, ramping up in intensity -- she realizes her evasive maneuvers are wholly in Valiant's hands. ||

  104. [2016-04-28 17:31:11] <Antioch|GM> Mortal Lock doesn't move a muscle, but one of the drones clamped to his body soars off towards you, intercepting the electrical blast , detonating in midair.

  107. [2016-04-28 17:32:22] <Antioch|GM> Even so, that's not the pressing issue -- the barrel glows with a red light, and emits a pencil-thin beam coming straight towards her.

  598. [2016-04-29 00:14:41] <SCG|Gigawatt> She smiles.
  599. [2016-04-29 00:14:58] <SCG|Gigawatt> Not a very happy smile, but a smile nonetheless.
  600. [2016-04-29 00:15:08] <SCG|Gigawatt> "Cheers."
  601. [2016-04-29 00:15:25] <SCG|Gigawatt> She's downed her glass before most have taken a few sips. ||
  602. [2016-04-29 00:17:22] <Antioch|GM> The vermouth is sweet, cloying, and leaves a thin film on her tongue -- permanent aftertaste. Nothing so herbal or potent as, say, absinthe, but it's got a kick and a scent that lingers in the sinuses.
  603. [2016-04-29 00:18:54] <Antioch|GM> "So," Sinclair says. "We're slated for patrolling the university Thursday night, keeping an eye on the Wards. Know what's on your plate next?"
  604. [2016-04-29 00:19:10] <Antioch|GM> Weber slugs him in the shoulder. "C'mon, man, we're off the clock. Can't you think of something better to talk about?" ||
  605. [2016-04-29 00:20:45] <SCG|Gigawatt> (what IS on her plate next?))
  606. [2016-04-29 00:22:51] <Antioch|GM> ((Thursday patrol, morning and night, on Blackjack turf. Given what happened today, the Director or Deputy Director might decide to switch it up, with Valiant's approval.))
  607. [2016-04-29 00:23:39] <SCG|Gigawatt> "Yeah uhhh, they might be changing my route Thursday. I was supposed to go on Blackjack turf."
  608. [2016-04-29 00:23:55] <SCG|Gigawatt> ||
  609. [2016-04-29 00:26:44] <Antioch|GM> Sinclair nods. "Makes sense, considering all the shit that went down." ||
  610. [2016-04-29 00:31:57] <SCG|Gigawatt> "Yeah..."
  611. [2016-04-29 00:33:13] <SCG|Gigawatt> "Would you guys be cool with shots? I wanna do some shots." ||
  612. [2016-04-29 00:34:29] <Antioch|GM> "I would be very cool with shots," Sinclair replies, glancing at Englebrecht, who's still nursing her Estocada.
  613. [2016-04-29 00:34:47] <Antioch|GM> She shrugs. "A few, at least," she concedes. "No gin, though, please." ||
  614. [2016-04-29 00:35:38] <SCG|Gigawatt> "I was thinking tequila." ||
  615. [2016-04-29 00:36:23] <Antioch|GM> "Works," she says. "Cut me off when you think it's sensible, Weber?"
  616. [2016-04-29 00:36:37] <Antioch|GM> He nods, and shots are doled out. ||
  617. [2016-04-29 00:39:12] <SCG|Gigawatt> And so it begins. ||
  618. [2016-04-29 00:40:40] <Antioch|GM> Whereas Gretchen and Sinclair -- he goes by Cain (or is it Kaine?) -- knock back enough to lose count, Englebrecht tags out before hitting double digits.
  619. [2016-04-29 00:43:05] <Antioch|GM> The group as a whole gets chattier, talking about shared interests outside of work. Volunteer work at the community pet shelter, for Englebrecht, trying to pick up a compendium of assorted martial arts for Sinclair. Weber contributes to the conversation at a more measured pace, chiming in about his archery hobby at junctures where he can get a word in
  620. [2016-04-29 00:43:05] <Antioch|GM> edgewise. ||
  621. [2016-04-29 00:46:07] <SCG|Gigawatt> Gretchen chimes in with a few funny stories from boot camp, shenanigans in the barracks. Stories from before things went south. She avoids talking about where it went south. ||
  622. [2016-04-29 00:47:07] <Antioch|GM> The squaddies chime in with tales of their tenure in the PRT's scrub camp, comparing and contrasting, words beginning to slur as the alcohol kicks in.
  623. [2016-04-29 00:48:47] <Antioch|GM> More focus in simulated missions against parahuman targets, higher emphasis on urban survival.
  624. [2016-04-29 00:49:17] <Antioch|GM> The general tone and flavor of the stories are much the same, however, and there's a comfort in being able to relate, developing the camaraderie. ||
  625. [2016-04-29 00:50:20] <SCG|Gigawatt> Finally, Gretchen is able to relax. ||
  626. [2016-04-29 00:50:30] <Antioch|GM> ||||
