Harrison's birthday

Covet: Kelsey was sitting at the cafe with her Mom, Dad, Little brother and Connor. The two boys were over playing at the other table with a paper football thing they had made. She was taking another bite of the carrot cake with all the goodies in it, her Dad's favorite, looking over at him. They'd already done the singing and all that so they had spent a good portion of their evening at the Jumping Gym place. " You didn't say how your treatment went today, Sorry I couldn't make it with you guys, things have been getting busier with the tour coming up." // Harrison put an arm around Sarah, and smiled, "I'm exhausted and definitely going to fall asleep on your Mom tonight, but I had a pretty good time. It was nice to have us all together, and you made it to the important part, so don't beat yourself up over it." // Sarah smiled and leaned into her husband. "Well, the Chemo has been taking a lot out of your Dad, which is why we're considering stoping this treatment and going to the alternative method." She said.
Alexithymiaa: -Brad was pretty anxious to dig into his cake, holding his fork like it was a shovel as he brought a huge amount of cake up to his mouth to enjoy. Listening to Harrison and Sarah, he furrowed his brows, cocking his head to one side. "What exactly is the alternative method?"-
Covet: Kelsey furrowed her brow as she looked at the two of them, as well, "What do you mean?" // Harrison took a deep breath, because he didn't exactly feel comfortable talking about this with the current company, being his children. // Sarah spoke up "Surgery to remove things that are causing the issue, so to speak, then they will put him on a lower dose of radiation therapy, to make sure everything is gone."
Alexithymiaa: -Brad sat up a little straighter, not expecting that to be the answer to his question. He slowly lowered his fork to rest on the side of his plate, glancing at Kelsey and then back at Harrison and Sarah. "Is that... easier?"-
Covet: "Yeah, are you sure that's the best idea?" Kelsey asked setting her fork down. // "It's more effective. And it's not as bad as it sounds, it's permanently preventative, instead of just hoping and making myself sick with this higher dose treatment." Harrison said, the look on his face showing how the last couple months had worn him down. // Sara rubbed her hand on his chest. "It will be for the best. And the doctor's have reassured us that this is probably the best route we can take."
Alexithymiaa: "Well..." brad started unsure of what to really say at a time like this. "We'll be praying for you, right Kels?"-
Covet: "Of course, absolutely." Kelsey said nodding her head. "If this is for sure the route you're going, then by all means, we'll be there to support you. If this is the best option then I'm all for it."
Covet: *// Harrison smiled, "Thank you, that means a lot. And it's appreicated. I don't want you guys to worry. We've got it all handled you can rest assure." // Sarah smiled and nodded.
Alexithymiaa: "And if there's anything you need... we can take Haven for a few days or come over to help with dinner... pick up medication... whatever you need. We're not too far that we can't help you out."-
Covet: "Exactly, anything at all, just let us know." Kelsey said. // "I know, I know. You two have been great, everyone has been great I appreciate it. The gifts, everything today, and everything ongoing. It makes me proud to have you all as my family." // Sarah, got the sappy sad look in her eyes, as she hugged him. "Well of course, what kind of family would we be if we didn't?"
Alexithymiaa: "Yeah, exactly. This is what family does for each other. They step in when you need it most." He said as he glanced at Kelsey, reaching over for her hand to give it a gentle squeeze.-
Covet: "That's good..." Kelsey said softly, squeezing Brad's hand. // Harrison looked at Sarah, "I think it's probably time that Haven, You and I get on the road, he's got school tomorrow." // Sarah nodded, "Yep, and we need to get you to bed. You're up way too late tonight, you're lucky it's your birthday." She said then turned to Haven to get him ready to leave as she helped Harrison up to his feet.
Alexithymiaa: "Do you need help?" Brad asked, pushing up from his chair and stepping in to offer a hand to Harrison to help him out from behind the table.-
Covet: Kelsey let go of Brad's hand as he got up and she moved out of the way herself so that they could get by, "Alright, you guys drive home safely please. The roads are wet out there, and it's dark on the highway back to Deadwood." // "Nah, It's good, once I'm up on my feet I can handle it. "He said then reached for his cane. "We will, you guys get home safely too." // Sarah kept up with Harrison, as Haven ran up to get the door.
Alexithymiaa: "Alright, just be careful." He said as he moved back to Kelsey's side, watching harrison a little pathetically because no amount of training could make him not pity him when he watched the drastic change.-
Covet: Once her parents left she pushed the cake back from herself and put her hand on her forhead pressing her fingers in. " I need to sit down and have a talk with him, one on one."
Alexithymiaa: -Brad moved to take his seat again, not about to waste any of the cake and reached his fork over to her plate to take a forkful. "About what?"-
Covet: "About my constant resentment towards him still. LIke that comment about being proud of his family? All because we're helping him? I get the sentiment it was supposed to carry, but I couldn't brush off the selfishness of it." Kelsey said, "Then I feel like a terrible person for feeling that way about it. It's very conflicting."
Alexithymiaa: "Wait, what?" He asked, furrowing his brows in confusion. "Why do you resent those comments? I don't understand whats so bad about that."-
Covet: "Because, of all the things he could be proud about, us helping him is what he's most proud about us as a family. Is it not selfish?" And what kind of jerk thinks that way about someone who has cancer? That's like special level of hell kind of a situation." Kelsey said looking at him.
Alexithymiaa: "Well..." He started, considering her words. "I don't think he was going to fit in how proud he is of you and your career into this specific situation. It might have been said more out of love and appreciation than out of complete truth."-
Covet: "See! And my statement makes me seem like I'm selfish, I'm not even talking about me and my career though, what about how well Connor is doing in school, and what about you and your work, hell, Bradley he didn't even bring up the issue of your public statement, Do you remember how he acted when he found out I bought you a car?" She asked him.
Alexithymiaa: "I really dont think he wanted to bring that up in a time like this, Kelsey. Dont you think that would make things awkward while we're trying to celebrate his birthday?" He asked, still confused where she was going with this. "I think you're overanalyzing this one little statement."-
Covet: Kelsey sighed and leaned forward putting her head in her hands. "Can we just go back to the dorms. I need some tylenol and some sleep. I'll figure out my own problems with my father." She said, the statement coming out like a slammed door to his face.
Alexithymiaa: -He closed his mouth, moving his hand to adjust the beanie on his head. "Yeah... yeah. We'll just go home." He spoke shortly, instantly taking offense to her words.-
Covet: Kelsey got up and looked at Connor, "C'mon kiddo, it's time to go, we need to get you into bed. I'm surprised you're still going after all the running and jumping you did today. // Connor looked at Kelsey, then at Brad, mostly trying to ignore them, because he could tell things were tense just by their tone, and having delt with this enough. "Okay, and I'm a little tired, Momma, but I wanted to stay up for Grandpa." He said then waited for Brad because he intended to hold onto Brad's hand as they walked out.
Alexithymiaa: -He slowly pushed up from his chair, staying silent as Kelsey wrangled Connor into some sort of routine to get out the door. He held his hand out for Connor, smiling down at him as he led him outside to the car.-
