- My Segmented 13% "Run":
- 13%, with (Charge, X-Ray) added to the 11% core, is possible due to L+R in Maridia and destroying Zebetites with a maximum of 10 missiles. The first part has been known for awhile; the second part was theoretically known, and then I came up with an RTA setup for it.
- My current life situation and my current setup does not allow for attempting long runs. This run would be very, very long single segment. Look at Kingofthehill's xAmmo run to get an idea. This leads me to attempting a segmented run. Since it is segmented, I will be trying to get fairly good segments. Note my current planned route has 15 segments.
- Despite it being segmented, I will be going for "safe" or "consistent" strats. Basically, I want the collection of parts to act as a "guide" for somebody who wants to attempt 13% runs. This is because I want there to be a single segment, streamed completion of 13%. I would be happy to help anyone who wants to attempt this.
- Additionally, since this run requires L+R, I cannot complete it on console nor can I use my preferred emulator. I have this secondary emulator that has some audio glitches: I literally play with the audio muted (unless I need an audio cue) due to this. So I apologize if the audio is messed up. There is nothing I can do about it, I have tried a lot. My computer is very, very bad.
- Also, despite that L+R is required, I try to use it as little as possible. Therefore, L+R is only enabled in two segments. Even within those segments, I only use it when I have to.
- Since this is also the first "run" I have ever uploaded, a brief description of my playstyle.
- I do not "speedrun". I did a very long time ago. I usually do randomizers and challenges. This creates a very weird collection of strats, where I do "speed strats" if I think they are fun to do but otherwise don't. This is most notable in that I (almost) never armpump, since I hate it. I also will never (purposefully) doorfix. But there is also weird things like: I don't use that much ammo, I frequently farm to full health/ammo when I don't need to, and I will always forget that I have Charge. If there is something "weird" that I do, and you are curious why, feel free to ask (probably on Discord).
- My planned segments are:
- Segment 1: Item Collection (Kraid and Phantoon as well).
- Segment 2: Entering Lower Norfair.
- Segment 3: Ridley.
- Segment 4: Escaping Lower Norfair, and setting up Maridia.
- Segment 5: Jesuswalk (L+R segment).
- Segment 6: Getting to Draygon (L+R segment).
- Segment 7: Draygon.
- Segment 8: Escaping Colosseum area.
- Segment 9: Getting to Tourian.
- Segment 10: Metroid Room 1.
- Segment 11: Metroid Room 2.
- Segment 12: Getting to Mother Brain.
- Segment 13: Zebetites 2 and 3.
- Segment 14: Zebetite 4.
- Segment 15: Mother Brain and escape.
- A description of the route: I decided on PKRD. The major choice is Ridley or Draygon first. For Lower Norfair and Ridley, it is very easy to die. For Maridia and Draygon, it is very technique heavy. The reason for my decision was that Maridia requires having more Reserve Tanks than Energy Tanks (to be able to R-Mode Clip to Botwoon). This means that in order to do Maridia first, it would be optimal to do it with no Energy Tanks and one Reserve Tank (at least up to Botwoon). Thus, I decided to get the Norfair Reserve (so I could do Maridia with the full 13%, which felt "safer" and more "consistent" which is a secondary goal of this project). Then it was more optimal to defeat Ridley as long as I was down here.
- Since I was doing Ridley before Draygon, then I want full ammo before going down to Norfair. Skipping the Moat Missile is a pain, so this makes sense as a second missile pack. Having a second super pack doesn't help for Phantoon, so I may as well kill Phantoon while I am here and get Wrecked Ship as the second super pack.
- Then everything else falls into place.
- Note the reason for the segments is that I save whenever possible before doing a difficult thing. This includes fighting Ridley and Mother Brain. This will make it easier for me to optimize these segments. The easiest segment to cut would be escaping Lower Norfair, but I just didn't want to have to re-do Ridley if I messed up somehow. Every other segment (except the first, which is explained by ending just before a G-Mode) has some difficult thing that would kill the segment if I missed it.
- As for the Metroid Rooms, this is because I want extremely good RNG with power bomb drops: To escape Tourian with this itemset (to refill power bombs) requires L+R, which I am avoiding except when necessary. Thus, I have to make it through Tourian with only five power bombs. This requires very good RNG, so I will save after getting the drops that I want. Single-segment 13% runs shouldn't attempt this, and should instead L+R climb to refill power bombs.
- Finally, I am much farther in this project than I will upload today. I am not yet done, so I don't feel compelled to upload all of the segments that I have finished so far. When I finish, I will make sure to upload every segment.
