  1. [00:55] <Suhana> justin:lol
  2. [00:55] <saint-lucifer> alright, hold on
  3. [00:55] <kevr> lmao
  4. [00:55] * saint-lucifer is now known as McJager
  5. [00:55] <ikey_afk> Close enough..
  6. [00:55] <McJager> I don't know what's so offensive about my old one
  7. [00:55] <Suhana> Lucifers were matches... Saint is.. well saintly :D
  8. [00:55] * Suhana hides
  9. [00:55] <ikey_afk> McJager: did I say it was offensive?
  10. [00:56] <ikey_afk> People have joined under the name "jesus" before and I've asked them the same thing
  11. [00:56] <McJager> no but I can only assume it was since you told me not to have it
  12. [00:57] <McJager> plus I log into here with whatever name I give myself for the computer which means every time I log in here I have to go /nick "insert name here" just b/c you don't like it
  13. [00:57] <hack> How long are we going to be in suspense?
  14. [00:57] * oem (~oem@2E31B4.D83E8A.F3951B.87C824) has joined #linuxmint-help
  15. [00:57] <ikey_afk> McJager: I asked you politely and now you're giving me attitude?
  16. [00:57] <hack> C'mon, what's the reason if not offense?
  17. [00:57] <oem> hi
  18. [00:58] <McJager> I changed it for you, it's not like I straight-up ignored oyu
  19. [00:58] <hack> mcjager: ikey's an OP. Just keep that in mind.
  20. [00:58] <ikey_afk> hack: For the same reason if someone joins under the name "god" or "jesus". Inappropriate and generates a big-fuss like we're having now
  21. [00:58] <hack> Are we allowed non-Abrahamic deities?
  22. [00:58] <McJager> what fuss? the only fuss is that you made me changed it.
  23. [00:58] <hack> Can I be Cthulhu?
  24. [00:58] <overmacht> WE BELIEVE IN GOD HERE
  25. [00:58] <ikey_afk> ...
  26. [00:58] <kevr> McJager > argumentative, lol, it's religion based. a lot of people hate on other religions
  27. [00:58] <ikey_afk> I'm tiring of this conversation.

  29. [00:58] <oem> how it go
  30. [00:59] <McJager> Satanism technically isn't a religion, I see it as a Philosophy anyway since it's derived from Atheism.
  31. [00:59] <ikey_afk> McJager: This is a support channel
  32. [00:59] <justin> yo, we're all in here for help guys.
  33. [00:59] <ikey_afk> Keep offtopic chat to #pimpmymint and chatting to #linuxmint-chat

  36. [00:59] <McJager> I asked a question earlier ikey, still waiting for someone to answer it
  37. [00:59] <hack> Let's take the hilarious religious nickname discussion to the chat channel, shall we?

  42. [01:00] <kevr> McJager > yes it is, it involves believing in a religion that involves a satan character
  43. [01:00] <ikey_afk> ...
  44. [01:00] <kevr> McJager > as he said, if you were named Jesus
  45. [01:00] <kevr> same
  46. [01:00] <ikey_afk> End.
  47. [01:00] <ikey_afk> Thank you.

  49. [01:00] <ikey_afk> What was the question anyway?
  50. [01:00] <ikey_afk> The computer-related one
  51. [01:00] <Suhana> Well PHP.5.3.2 + Apache 2.2.15 (source installs) runs rather sweetly, although I wouldn't recommend running them under Mint on a production server.

  53. [01:01] <McJager> ANYWAY, back to my computer related question that was ignored
  54. [01:01] <McJager> I want to install Ubuntu Satanic Edition onto Mint 8 Xfce, will it work?
  55. [01:01] <ikey_afk> You cannot install a distro within a distro
  56. [01:01] <ikey_afk> If you mean add the packages, possibly
  57. [01:01] <ikey_afk> afaik the USE uses gnome
  58. [01:02] <McJager> It's not an actual distro, it's a theme pack/package for GNOME but it's built for Ubuntu. I noticed the splash screens and stuff didn't all show on Xubuntu so I figured I'd ask

  65. [01:03] <Suhana> ah
  66. [01:03] <ikey_afk> Or use the LiveCD
  67. [01:03] <ikey_afk> it is actually a distro. btw.
  68. [01:03] <McJager> is it a distro?
  69. [01:03] <ikey_afk> yes
  70. [01:04] * paul has quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
  71. [01:04] <justin> yeah
  72. [01:04] <McJager> I thought it was theme only
  73. [01:04] <ikey_afk> the have a livecd
  74. [01:04] <ikey_afk> alternatively you can add the ppa and "customise" your existing install
  75. [01:04] <ikey_afk> from what i remember it uses gnome by default
  76. [01:04] <ikey_afk> so you'd end up with gnome and xfce alongside
  77. [01:04] <ikey_afk> which is just bloated tbh

  116. [01:11] <xerei> when is that?
  117. [01:11] <McJager> idk, go to the ubuntu site
  118. [01:11] <kevr> j > Should run it from root
  119. [01:11] <derek> November I think
  120. [01:11] <ikey_afk> in which case, type the following into the terminal: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -a
  121. [01:11] <ikey_afk> As the prompt says
  122. [01:12] <xerei> Cool
  123. [01:12] <McJager> Mint is based on Ubuntu so when a new Ubuntu comes out they make a Mint version
  124. [01:12] <xerei> whats new in the 9th release?
  125. [01:12] <ikey_afk> Mint 9 will be out in around May time
  126. [01:12] <xerei> the same as in ubuntu?
  127. [01:12] <McJager> it's not out yet xerei
  128. [01:12] <ikey_afk> As Lucid 10.04 is out next month
  129. [01:12] <xerei> cool!
  130. [01:12] <xerei> seriously, how long did it take to make this linux?
  131. [01:12] <ikey_afk> So in May you'll have Mint 9
  132. [01:12] <xerei> the window effects, the fancy stuff
  133. [01:12] <xerei> must have taken years

  136. [01:12] <justin> xD
  137. [01:12] <ikey_afk> lol
  138. [01:12] <McJager> lol
  139. [01:12] <xerei> wow
  140. [01:12] * Suhana coughs
  141. [01:13] <justin> okay not really.
  142. [01:13] <ikey_afk> Linux is only the core-part xerei
  143. [01:13] <ikey_afk> The kernel
  144. [01:13] <ikey_afk> Then you have the gnu tools + toolchain
  145. [01:13] <McJager> it doesn't take terribly long to make a linux distro based on the other, just reskin and make a respritory.
  146. [01:13] <ikey_afk> Then you got X (display)
  147. [01:13] <ikey_afk> Then gnome desktop (etc)
  148. [01:13] <justin> each 6 months the state is advanced based upon the previous versions
  149. [01:13] <xerei> sounds cool
  150. [01:13] <justin> which makes a quick turnaround time from existing codebases.
  151. [01:14] <McJager> anyway, the new xfce ce rc is crashing a lot

  155. [01:14] <xerei> wht makes linux mint 1 of the top 10?
  156. [01:14] <McJager> I'm thinking it's more of a weight problem then a bug issue
  157. [01:14] <ikey_afk> McJager: check the mint forums
  158. [01:14] <ikey_afk> There is a bug thread

  163. [01:14] <xerei> is it the effects and the ease of use that makes mint top 10?
  164. [01:14] <Suhana> derek:mm yes - just watching the convo in multiple channels
