  9.
  10. ELENA
  11. Dave, I know this is a lot to take
  12. in-
  13.
  14. Parks chuckles.
  15.
  16. PARKS
  17. You're a lot to take in.
  18.
  19. The room goes silent.
  20.
  21. JACK NELSON (mid-40s) holds a briefcase and walks through the
  22. door.
  23.
  24. PARKS (CONT’D)
  25. You know, sweetheart. I'm not
  26. really in the mood for pranks, you
  27. get that right?
  28.
  29. Nelson reaches for the TV remote next to Parks and turns it
  30. on.
  31.

  40. IND REPORTER 1 (O.S.)
  41. Is this an act of terrorism?
  42.
  43. IND REPORTER 2 (O.S.)
  44. Were these two officers
  45. specifically targeted?
  46.
  47. IND REPORTER 3 (O.S.)
  48. Do we have any idea at this
  49. time who did this?
  50.
  51. LIEUTENANT STANTON
  52. (on TV)
  53. At this time I will not be taking
  54. questions.
  55.
  56. The reporters hush.
  57.
  58. Stanton takes out a paper and glances down at it with an
  59. anxious sigh.
  60.
  61. LIEUTENANT STANTON (CONT’D)
  62. It is with a heavy heart that I
  63. announce that we lost one of our
  64. own tonight. Officer Lance Hawkins
  65. was pronounced dead on scene... His
  66. field training officer, Officer
  67. Parks had been struck by four
  68. rounds, two hitting his vest.
  69.
  70. Parks buries his head in his hands. Tears run down his eyes.
  71.
  72. LIEUTENANT STANTON (CONT’D)
  73. (on tv)
  74. ...It is thanks to two armed
  75. bystanders that Officer Parks can
  76. live to fight another day-
  77.
  78. PARKS
  79. He- He's joking. That's bullshit.
  80. He's gotta be joking, this is a
  81. sick god damn joke and everyone's
  82. laughing at me!
  83.
  84. A moment of silence between all three.
  85.
  86. NELSON
  87. Officer Parks, I'm sorry to tell
  88. you.
  89.
  90. Elena has a look of concern as she places her hand on Parks's
  91. back.
  92.
  93. PARKS
  94. Did he... Feel any of it?
  95.
  96. Nelson shakes his head.
  97.
  98. PARKS (CONT’D)
  99. What about his wife? Who- Who's
  100. gonna take care of her? His kid,

  102. understood here?!
  103.
  104. NELSON
  105. His daughter will receive a
  106. pension, however it will be up to
  107. you whether you'd like to speak to
  108. his wife.
  109.
  110. He wipes off another tear and tries to mouth something, then
  111. stops and takes a deep breath.
  112.
  113. PARKS
  114. He's dead because of me, I
  115. should've been the contact-
  116.
  117. He knocks over the table next to him and begins to sob.
  118.
  119. PARKS (CONT’D)
  120. FUCK!
  121.
  122. NELSON
  123. There's nothing you could've done
  124. about it, the reason you're alive
  125. is because two people happened to
  126. see what was going on and stopped
  127. it.
  128.
  129. Parks reaches for the trash can next to him and vomits into
  130. it.
  131.
  132. PARKS
  133. God damn it. I could've done more.
  134. I could've done more. I should've
  135. done more.
  136.
  137. He stops for a moment as a group of shadows form behind the
  138. covered observation room.
  139.
  140. The door opens as SERGEANT STEELE, (mid-30s) comes in. He
  141. wears an "Internal Affairs" badge.
  142.
  143. Parks spits into the trash can.
  144.
  145. STEELE
  146. Run me through it again, Parks.
  147. Piece by piece.
  148.
  149. He throws a file folder at his feet.
  150.
  151. Parks stands up.
  152.
  153. PARKS
  154. Fu-
  155.
  156. Nelson stands up and almost blocks Steele. He looks back at
  157. Parks.
  158.
  159. NELSON
  160. Not a word. Get it together.
  161.
  162. He glares at Steele.
  163.
  164. NELSON (CONT’D)
  165.
  166. NELSON (CONT’D)
  167. Sergeant, you make another move
  168. like that again, I will make your
  169. life hell.
  170.
  171. Parks nods.
  172.
  173. PARKS
  174. I want to go home.
  175.

  185.
  186. JAMES
  187. He knows me. Look, I served with
  188. him. Can I have a reason for being
  189. kicked out?
  190.
  191. IND POLICE OFFICER 1
  192. Security reasons, never said
  193. anything about you.
  194.
  195. JAMES
  196. Look, ask him yoursel-
  197.
  198. Parks bursts out the door, a cast in his left arm.
  199.
  200. Next to him is Elena.
  201.
  202. ELENA
  203. David, you've just been shot, let's

  211. Both of the officers take a step back and look at James.
  212.
  213. JAMES
  214. Dave?
  215.
  216. PARKS
  217. Should've probably told them you
  218. were coming. Sorry 'bout that.
  219.
  220. Dave just nods at the officers and waves them off. They nod.
  221.
  222. JAMES
  223. Grab a drink then? Do some catching
  224. up?
  225.
  226. Dave nods.
  227.
  228. PARKS
  229. Haven't seen you since...
  230.
  231. JAMES
  232. ...Convoy.
  233.
  234. PARKS
  235. Time flies, fuck.
  236.
  237. James's eyes widen as he takes a sigh.
  238.
  239. JAMES
  240. Yeah, it does. You okay man?
  241.
  242. Parks takes a sigh and looks at James. He opens his mouth to
  243. something, but nothing manages to come out.
  244.
  245. His phone vibrates.
  246.
  247. A text appears. The contact reads, "Interested Party".

  268.
  269. PARKS
  270. Lemme get some air first.
  271.
  272. James cocks an eyebrow at this.

  284.
  285. He takes a deep breath as he looks at the floors.

  313.
  314. WHITE
  315. Come on now Officer, there were
  316. other ways we could've dealt with
  317. you. At least listen to us before
  318. you start shooting.
  319.
  320. Those around him reach for their weapons.
  321.
  322. WHITE (CONT’D)
  323. Gentlemen, he has one arm and
  324. there's six of you. It wouldn't be
  325. a fair fight now would it?
  326.
  327. Parks lowers his weapon.
  328.
  329. PARKS
  330. What? The fuck you want? You feds?
  331.
  332. He's clearly nervous.
  333.
  334. WHITE
  335. Officer- Or do you want it to be
  336. Detective, Parks?
  337.
  338. PARKS
  339. Cut the shit.
  340.
  341. He looks behind him at another individual in a suit. He

  343.
  344. WHITE
  345. Anthony, get my case please.
  346.
  347. ANTHONY
  348. Yes sir.

  352.
  353. WHITE
  354. Price of admission is ignorance.
  355. That man was on bath salts and some

  357.
  358. White opens the briefcase.
  359.
  360. WHITE (CONT’D)
  361. He's being healed up in a known

  365. Parks just slowly nods.
  366.

  388.
  389. Parks shrugs.
  390.
  391. JAMES (CONT’D)
  392. The feds give you that?
  393.
  394. Parks shrugs.
  395.
  396. PARKS
  397. It's information for a case. That's
  398. all I know.
  399.
  400. JAMES
  401. If it's on me, I don't have any god
  402. damn dogs.
  403.
  404. Parks rolls his eyes.
  405.
  406. PARKS
  407. If it was on you, I'd have thrown
  408. you in cuffs.
  409.
  410. JAMES
  411. Not if there was already an IED
  412. planted on your car.
  413.
  414. PARKS
  415. James...
  416.
  417. James smiles, though it looks nervous.
  418.
  419. JAMES
  420. I'm just joking. I swear.
  421.
  422. Parks nods.
  423.

  434.
  435. Elena crouches behind a couch.
  436.
  437. ELENA
  438. Why did you want me back here
  439. again? And why didn't you call the
  440. bomb squad?
  441.
  442. PARKS
  443. So if it goes off, there's not
  444. pieces of me inside of you. Plus,
  445. they're not gonna come out here
  446. because someone gave me a
  447. briefcase.
  448.
  449. ELENA
  450. But I already get pieces of you
  451. inside me.
  452.

  460.
  461. JAMES

  464.
  465. PARKS
  466. YOU FUCKING IDIOT!
  467.
  468. ELENA
  469. You just gave me a fucking

  473.
  474. Parks and Elena takes a deep breath.
  475.
  476. PARKS (CONT’D)
  477. You were EOD right?
  478.
  479. JAMES
  480. I was half the reason EOD came to
  481. talk to us back then, yeah.
  482.
  483. Parks unlatches the case and takes out a flashlight.
  484.
  485. PARKS
  486. How'd they set these things up?
  487.
  488. JAMES
  489. Damn things were rigged for a few
  490. inches, you pulled up and boom.
  491. Just look under it for wires.
  492.
  493. Parks glances under it, opening the case just a crack. He
  494. shines the light around inside of it.
  495.
  496. JAMES (CONT’D)
  497. Anything?
  498.
  499. PARKS
  500. Negative, any clear string would've

  503.
  504. He opens the case all the way. The files are stacked neatly.
  505.
  506. Elena emerges from behind Parks's couch.
  507.
  508. ELENA
  509. What is it? Anything solid on
  510. Lance?
  511.
  512. Parks takes the case, turns it upside down, and dumps its
  513. contents on the table.
  514.
  515. He starts to spread its contents, across the table.
  516.
  517. PARKS
  518. Help me out with this you two.
  519.
  520. Elena makes her way over and the three start placing folders
  521. right side up.
  522.
  523. David opens a file, on its cover reads, "DEPARTMENT OF
  524. HOMELAND SECURITY".
  525.
  526. PARKS (CONT’D)
  527. Holy fuck.
  528.

  579.
  580. Stanton looks over at Parks.
  581.
  582. LIEUTENANT STANTON (CONT’D)
  583. Should feel good though if you are
