  1. **Item #:** SCP-1730
  2.
  3. *Anomaly Class:** Keter
  4.
  5. **Special Containment Procedures:** SCP-1730 is contained in Locker C39-A at Site-##. Any and all handling[[footnote]]Handling has been known to include any deliberate physical interaction with SCP-1730, with any container that contains it, with any instrument holding onto a container that contains it, etc.[[/footnote]] of SCP-1730 is disavowed by the Foundation. All handling of SCP-1730, by definition, occurs outside of the job functions of all personnel. Personnel are to consider any directive to handle SCP-1730 invalid.
  6.
  7. Research into and containment of SCP-1730 is under the purview of Maximilian Greenwood (SCP-1730-1-7). Official research of SCP-1730 will, presumably, cease upon Greenwood's retirement or death. Research is aimed at reversing SCP-1730's effects on Maximilian Greenwood; if this is not accomplished, the Global Occult Coalition has agreed to assume control of the anomalies under Greenwood's purview. In the interim, containment may be attempted informally.
  8.
  9. **Description:** SCP-1730 is a physical object. Descriptions of the object are mildly cognitohazardous when presented in or with official documentation, resulting in minor headaches, disorientation, and a failure to comprehend the information conveyed.
  10.
  11. SCP-1730 is benign and non-anomalous unless handled by an individual in the course of their occupation, who is designated SCP-1730-1 if SCP-1730's anomalous effects activate. Activation has an estimated 30% chance of occurring for each individual that handles SCP-1730.
  12.
  13. The position which SCP-1730-1 holds upon activation will cease to hold any meaning except in its relation to SCP-1730-1. All job functions will cease to be tied to an abstract position that can potentially be filled by any of several individuals, and instead be irreversibly connected to SCP-1730-1's person. This has relatively minor immediate effects, most notably:
  14. * All documentation relating to the position will be altered to refer to SCP-1730-1 by name rather than position (for example, references to "the customer service representative on duty" will be changed to "the John Doe on duty" or simply "John Doe").
  15. * Personnel employed by the organization in question will gain implicit knowledge of SCP-1730-1's unique situation over the course of three weeks, provided that they were familiar with the position to begin with.
  16. * The working conditions of SCP-1730-1 will be altered somewhat to suit SCP-1730-1's particular needs, and SCP-1730-1 will not be asked to leave or given any promotion or demotion. Interviews indicate that this is a natural response to the conditions at hand and not a direct anomalous effect of SCP-1730.
  17. In most cases, business as usual has been carried out so long as SCP-1730-1 has performed its work. In the absence of SCP-1730-1 (due to illness, vacation, death, etc.), the functions entailed by its position cannot be fulfilled by the organization -- SCP-1730-1's superiors will experience mental blocks should they attempt to make arrangements for the fulfillment of SCP-1730-1's job functions. Those parts of the organization affected will deteriorate, be abandoned, or transferred to some other organization as appropriate.
  18.
  19. **Addendum:** A historical account of SCP-1730 has been constructed from various journal entries, official documentation, and interviews.
