Those Chaos Emeralds were protected by a hero from the evil genius scientist Dr. Eggman; that day, Sonic the Hedgehog was swaying in a palm tree hammock and enjoying a relaxing nap. However…
A sudden dazzling light illuminated Sonic.
When Sonic woke up from too much of the glare, the Chaos Emerald he had in hand spun violently, unleashing a shine like he had never seen before.

“What? What the heck’s happening!?”
As Sonic thought this, the Chaos Emerald shone increasingly stronger and intense right before his eyes, finally breaking together with a high pitched sound and changing its shape into five gems before scattering somewhere far way.
Then, the stunned Sonic heard a familiar voice from directly above him.
“DAAAH HAH HAH HAH!! What an unexpected chance!! DAAAH HAH HAH HAH!!
Yes, it was the no-good voice of that Dr. Eggman.

“Eggman, it's you!! Haven’t you learned your lesson yet!?”
Eggman, ignoring Sonic’s words, continued to speak in his no-good voice.
“DAAAH HAH HAH!! Sonic, when the beam I aimed at you hit the Chaos Emerald, I wondered what what happen, but this is quite the unexpected windfall!!”
Eggman rattled on as Sonic glared.
“With the Chaos Emeralds missing on this island, from here on, I, the great super genius scientist Dr. Eggman, shall build a large fortress!! And its name: Silver Castllle!

“Since the Chaos Emeralds will complete my fortress, I can rest assured knowing that I’ll find them!! DAAAH HAH HAH!!”
Eggman was getting cocky, certain that Sonic would say, “You got me there.” But then, another voice echoed from the shade of a nearby tree.
“Whenever you hear about the Chaos Emeralds, you just can’t shut up!!”
The one who said that emerged from the shade of the tree: Knuckles, who had heard the commotion.
Then, Sonic and Knuckles said this to Eggman.
