  1. Land of the Free
  2. The Divided States of America
  3. It’s Not Kaiserreich If You Squint
  4. ===================================
  5. The date is September 8, 1935, and Huey Long is shot by Carl Weiss outside the Louisiana State Capitol building. On the verge of death, Long declares "I have so much to do."
  6. On September 10, 1935, Long made a miraculous recovery, talking with reporters from his hospital bed and loudly declaring that his safety was guaranteed by God. Long leaves the hospital on the 13th of September and quickly sets out on a crusade of expanding his Share the Wealth program aggressively across the South, working with Junius Marion Futrell of Arkansas, David Sholtz of Florida, and Martin Sennet Conner or Mississippi as well as a plethora of other politicians in the South and Midwest, advocating his version of the Share the Wealth program.
  7. During the 1936 election Long's "Kingfish" Party swept the polls, fracturing FDR's popularity between those who felt he wasn't doing as much and Long's southern popularity and old reliables in office. On January 20, 1937, Long and his running mate, a New York Catholic Preacher named Daniel Moriarty, heroically rode into Washington D.C. to assume their new roles as leaders of America. Much to the anger of various political factions. Long's first 100 days were aggressive and forward, fighting back against entrenched political parties (and installing his own).
  8. Then November 12, 1937, Black Friday to the Kingfishers. Huey Long was shot and killed by American Communist Wayne Thomas after leaving a hospital promoting a new healthcare legislation he was going through. Shot three times in the chest, Thomas was gunned down by Long's security soon after, but the damage was done. Long was pronounced dead on November 14. Moriarty soon succeeded him and the Red Scare became more real than ever. With a mass crackdown on the CPA, mass riots took over as suspected Commies were rooted out, real or imagined. Moriarty would soon authorize local authorities and militia groups to arm themselves heavier to fight the Communist threat. The Silver Shirts quickly took this for a more authorized attack and began "correcting" Communists in the California area, as well as a plethora of other groups began arming and attacking one another.
  9. In the chaos gripping the country, the Topeka Conference took place in March of '38. Governors from Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Colorado, South Dakota, and North Dakota met to agree on the mass demilitarization of their states, effectively declaring them an autonomous unit separate from the U.S. Local militias were quickly disarmed, but President Moriarty along with various other military figures authorized to forcefully take over the area back from the Midwest Autonomous Government. Douglas MacArthur, a staunch ally of the Long administration, was tasked with fighting in the Midwest. What followed was the May War, MacArthur blitzed through a majority of the Midwest with superior firepower and mobility in his forces, but was frequently forced to stop guerrilla movements as well as the rag-tag Moriarty Militias from burning down the countryside. At the end of May, peace was signed by total capitulation of the Midwest governments, but the damage was done.
  10. With the breadbasket of America craters and looted farmsteads, famine soon began to rocket through the nation. By the next year in May of '39, a majority of the nation was facing a depression worse than the last, with hunger riots and anarchy gripping the streets, Moriarty refused to step down, believing it would sort itself out.
  11. Then the Pacific Union broke away, consisting of California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. As the U.S. mobilized the Great Lakes Federation declared open revolt under a Communist banner, emboldened by the Pacific Union. Struggling to maintain a grip on society, other states began to break away or form autonomous regions. By 1940, the federal government controlled North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and parts of Pennsylvania. The rest of the nation fell to anarchy and conflict as each small nation state declared they were the "True America." Small organized militia groups have taken up arms in service to the nation, including yours. What will the new America hold for you, as the world is driven by war as the Allies duel the Axis for supremacy of Europe, will your group determine the next great American state?
