  1. “Kingdom Hearts,” he said. “Give me more power!”
  2.
  3. As if answering his call, his wish came from the heavens above. A single heart, one filled with the drive, determination, and strength to overcome any challenge, with the power to exterminate all who stood in his way, came down.
  4.
  5. He extended his hand, desperate to grasp it. He needed it, more than water or food or air. With the heart only inches away, he leapt for it, no care for how he looked.
  6.
  7. The heart slipped through his fingers.
  8.
  9. He didn’t believe it at first. When he landed, he reached for it, again and again, only to miss each time.
  10.
  11. “Impossible,” said Vergil. “Kingdom Hearts grants power to those who call upon it. There is no one left for it to witness, except for I. Unless…”
  12.
  13. Vergil stared at the heart. Rather than attempt to steal it, he watched its path. He’d exterminate whoever it reached, and take the heart for himself.
  14.
  15. It floated gently through the air, until it touched upon the now lifeless Power Ranger suit.
  16.
  17. At first he expected it to do nothing. A heart wasted on a corpse. When the suit of armor curled its fingers, gripped at the dirt on the floor, and moved as if alive… he grew interested.
  18.
  19. “Fascinating,” said Vergil. “Your body submits. Your mind succumbs. And yet your heart resists.”
  20.
  21. He held out the daggers. This is exactly what he needed. A worthy test of his new abilities. He finally allowed a small smirk to rise on his face. The prospect of a worthy opponent always motivated him.
  22.
  23. “If you want your powers back, then you’ll just have to take them. But you knew that already, didn’t you?”
  24.
  25. Lord Drakkon died in every sense of the word. His body had withered into ash. His soul returned into the ether, cast into a perpetual pit of sorrow under the rule of Hades.
  26.
  27. Only one aspect of him remained.
  28.
  29. His Lingering Will.
