  7. A. 99.5% of fanfiction IS bad, it's exactly why this list exists. So you can find the great fanfics among all the terrible ones.

  9. Q. I'm new to fanfiction, what should I read first?
  10. A. If you're itching for a sequel, pick Hogwarts Houses Divided or the Albus saga. If you don't care and want to skip to the best fics, read The Lie I've Lived. If you want a humor fic because you don't take fanfiction seriously (yet) read The Seventh Horcrux. If you want the closest thing to canon possible, read the Disappearance of Sally-Anne Perks. If you just want to get off, read Whatever Happened to Bromance or something. If you want actual sex fics, I don't have any, sorry.

  12. Q. The first few chapters of "X" suck, why did you recommend it?
  13. A. It always gets better. Keep reading for a while before giving up.

  16. A. I wouldn't be reading HP fanfiction if I was happy with sudden endings in the first place. It's easier to make a one shot readable, but I feel like they are never satisfying in retrospect, personally.

  19. A. The Must Read sublist isn't a list of the objectively best stories, it's a carefully selected group of fics that are the best mainstream example of their "genre". There's a great time travel story, a great sequel story, a great crack fic, and so on. It's designed for people to find their favorite genres, and it raises the chance of someone finding something they're willing to ignore the fanfiction stigma for. By the time you're done with it, you'll have some basic knowledge of what you can expect in every other fic, which is always useful.
