In one word, The Witness is a game of faith. The Witness has faith in you to learn from its wonderfully constructed lessons. The Witness has faith in you to leave and solve puzzles at your own pace, without ever forcing you to go to a specific path. And when a game in a world full of tutorial pop-ups has such a deep and resonant faith in you, you likewise gain faith in it.

Whether people like it or hate it, most opinions I see of this game are impassioned; I've become the former, a zealot of this little island and its great many puzzles. The Witness is a beautiful sensory cocktail, full of bright colours, evocative architecture, perfectly subtle audio design, and all the implications of an underlying plot and poetry without the constraints of such a thing.

It's hard to put my finger on the magic of The Witness, but it is an utterly absorbing game I can't recommend enough.
