Date Night

Tonight was pretty much the greatest night of your entire life and you couldn't think of anything that could ruin it.  You were at the beach with the girl of your dreams and it was everything that you had hoped it would be.  The two of you had done all of the cliche couple stuff whilst you were there and all that was left was to sit in the sand and watch the sun set as the two of you drank together.

And just when things were starting to get a lil bit handsy, all of a sudden she just grins and dares you to catch her, right before sprinting back into the surf.  You start to laugh with her and follow her into the water, swimming after her with a goofy grin on your face.  It doesn't take you too long to catch up to her, and being the mature and responsible person that you are, you immediately grab onto her and try to resume your fooling around from before.

Just when things are starting to get good again though, you start to realize how tired you're getting from having to tread water so much, and that's when it hits you.  Not only are you not longer in the shallows, but the tide is quickly pulling you further and further away from the shore.  The two of you try to swim back, but with how drunk and tired you are from your day of fun, you can see that you're only getting pulled further out to sea.

The two of you start to panic more and more, frantically screaming for help, desperately hoping that anybody will come and save you, but all it does it tire you out even faster.  And that's when you start to feel your girlfriend weaken, her screams have become whimpers, her body is somehow even colder than yours, and she's gone from being able swim by herself to just holding on to you.

And as you start to feel your own limbs slowly become heavier and heavier, as the cold seeps into your bones, as the distant shoreline gets further and further away, there's only one thing one your mind.  The look of trust in your girlfriends eyes, the fact that despite everything that's happening, she's relying on you to save her.  And that as she starts to slip from your numb hands, the fact that you're about to fail her.
