  1. The End?! I thought it just started?
  2.
  3. Yes, I have ended my extremely short journey at Tokopedia — the journey was as short as riding a bajaj from Istana Negara to Monas. So, good news is I passed probation. Bad news for them (or pretty much I-don’t-care-news for me), I resigned just 3 days after they announced I passed my probation. The team seems cursed because out of 3 people who joined, including me, none stayed beyond probationary period.
  4.
  5. How has it been so far? If I would have to rate my short experience, how many stars would I give? Let’s say ⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and I would elaborate as follows:
  6.
  7. ⭐️ for my lead Milkent who gave me clear directions and complete freedom to do my work whenever and wherever.
  8.
  9. ⭐️ for the rooftop longue on level 52.
  10.
  11. ⭐️ for monthly OVO cash to spend on food and stuffs.
  12.
  13. As for the rest? Well… *sigh*. But the short experience has further confirmed my decision to move back to Germany, the place I have rejected TWICE in my life. The first one was: “I will NEVER go there for college” — back in 2007 and “I will NEVER go back there ever again” — back in 2018.
  14.
  15. Anyways, to keep this post short, here are the things why Tokopedia didn’t make much of an impression to me:
  16.
  17. The policies are stupid. You leave one minute early and you are haunted down. You spend two hours extra at work and nobody cares. On my supposedly physically last day, the HR called me up and said: “Sorry, we made a mistake. You still HAVE to come on your official last day, otherwise your salary will be deducted and all your vacation days wouldn’t be paid out”.
  18. The organisation is chaotic. In my 4 months there, there have been FIVE reorganizations and restructurings. Tell me what part of it is not chaotic.
  19. Some departments feel that they are above the others. The engineering and UIX departments have some seriously cocky seniors who act like they are VVIPs, solely thinking of satisfying their own ego instead of the project’s success.
  20. There is no proper process for everything. Meetings are set up in confusing ways, at confusing intervals, on confusing schedules and nobody knows who is the contact person for what. Basically you’re running around headless and clueless every single day.
  21. Did I regret joining the company? Yes, I did. But I am so lucky to have an exit option . Nevertheless it has been a good ONE YEAR working for two Indonesian companies — Tokopedia and the deceased BBM. I have tasted the notorious Indonesian corporate life and it’s time to move on and never look back ever again.
  22.
  23. But, as Justin Bieber said:
  24.
  25. Never say never.
