Snipping (Raw BBCode)

Hey, Scratchers! You may have seen people replacing parts of quotes with something like "*snip*" to cut down the size of a long chain of quotes. If you're on this page, you may be wondering how people do this, or even exactly what snipping means or why it's useful. This topic is here to answer those questions!

[big][b][u]1. What is snipping, anyways? (And why should I care about it?)[/u][/b][/big]
Snipping is a common action on the Scratch forums in which Scratchers cut down the size of a chain of quotes by replacing part of the chain with something like "*snip*" or "~snip~". Here's an example:

Nano wants to reply, mainly to what Tera just said, but the chain of quotes is getting pretty long, so to cut out unnecessary use of space, he snips the first few posts in the chain from his reply. Here's what his post looks like:

I agree with Pico on this one, I prefer the blahblahblahblahblah over the blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah. The new blahblahblahblahblah is pretty nice, though.[/quote]

As you can see, snipping helps keep a growing chain of quotes down to a manageable size.

Snipping isn't something you can just press a button for- rather, it relies on the flexibility of BBCode, editing the quotes you make to make them smaller. Here's the quote Nano got before he snipped it:

First, he highlights everything inside Pico's quote (the quote right before the most recent quote in the chain)...

Then he deletes this highlighted material and replaces it with the phrase "*snip*".

Snipping relies on the flexibility of BBCode, editing the quotes you make to make them smaller. I used Scratch characters to demonstrate the process of snipping, and Nano wants to reply to Tera about her response to Pico:
