- --------------- BrianMp16's $3,000+ "Gotta use 'em all" Pokemon Red Challenge ---------------
- This ruleset governs as the official BrianMp16's Gotta use 'em all Pokemon Red Challenge (December 1st, 2023, 12:00pm EST)
- This challenge is to be completed in real-time using a clean Nintendo official Pokemon Red Gameboy Cartridge or ROM. The use of cheats, mods, or savestates is not allowed. Pokemon Stadium 2's Gameboy Tower Dodrio Mode OR a Gameboy Emulator using speedups of no more than 4x may be used. Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the rules in my:
- YouTube Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67JPMcMkSzg
- Discord Channel - https://discord.gg/2F8javw
- Goal: Max Pokedex (146 seen, 124 owned) and Living Dex (120 unique Pokemon stored in your PC) then talk to Professor Oak to finish
- 1) You can only use one Pokemon per battle.
- 2) If your Pokemon faints*, is released, has a status condition outside of battle, reaches level 100, or gains EXP in any way**, that Pokemon species is considered retired and can never lead in a battle*** or use field moves ever again**** (see NOTES below).
- 3) You must have at least 10 of your non-retired Pokemon faint without those species ever gaining any EXP themselves or for others (i.e. EXP.ALL).
- 4) You can't buy items that cost over $300 until you own at least 117 Pokemon in your Pokedex (the max before buying evolution stones).
- 5) Each time you leave a Pokemon at the Daycare Center, 20 non-retired Pokemon must first be released; then after taking the Pokemon back, 1 non-retired Pokemon must be released per level gained*****.
- 6) One game file only, no external means of affecting game, glitchless (using Pokemon Red glitchless speedrunning ruleset):
- BONUS RULE) Pokemon encountered at Level 50 or above can only be caught with Ultra Balls.
- NOTES:
- * Fainting includes both in and out of battle. Also, the first rival battle doesn't count as fainting for this challenge because your Pokemon is immediately revived and your player doesn't black out from losing.
- ** Gaining EXP in the middle of a battle is ok, Pokemon species are only considered retired after the battle concludes.
- *** Leading in battle is defined as any situation where your Pokemon is active in the battle screen against an opposing Pokemon. So you can't even encounter a wild Pokemon with a retired Pokemon.
- **** Using a field move is defined as selecting a Pokemon's field move in the menu screen.
- ***** Pokemon released for the Daycare Center only count toward one Daycare Center release requirement at a time. All required releases must occur before the challenge is completed.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- EXAMPLE SITUATION:
- - You catch a wild Doduo at Level 28, nickname it Doddy, and teach it HM02 Fly.
- - You fight and defeat all 3 of Erika's Pokemon with Doddy, leveling Doddy up to level 29.
- - Doduo as a species is now retired because Doddy the Doduo gained experience. You may never lead any Doduo in a battle ever again. You may never use a field move with a Doduo ever again. Anything else is fair game.
- - You get an EXP.ALL and catch a Dewgong which you nickname Dewdy. Your party consists of Dewdy and Doddy.
- - You fight and defeat all 4 of Blaine's Pokemon with Dewdy. Dewgong as a species is now retired because Dewdy gained experience. Thanks to the EXP.ALL though, Doddy also gained experience and reached level 30.
- - After the fight, you give Doddy a Rare Candy, leveling Doddy up to level 31. At this level, Doduo evolves into a Dodrio, which you allow to happen.
- - Dodrio is a new Pokemon and can lead in battle and use field moves normally.
- - You use Doddy to FLY to a Pokemon Center.
- - You go to a PC Box and release Doddy. Dodrio as a species is now retired.

- VIDEO SUBMISSION INFO:
- When you're ready to start recording the challenge, I highly recommend either streaming the challenge live or using OBS to record your video in a format that saves as it's recording such as .flv in case you lose power or OBS crashes while recording. I also recommend recording in low to medium quality to reduce your video file size since this challenge will most likely take a long time to complete. If you decide to work on a team, the bounty will be awarded via PayPal to the one person who provides me video proof. That person will be responsible for distributing the bounty to the rest of the team. You may only play on a single game file that you may never copy or make backups of. This rule is to simulate as if you were playing on an actual unmodded Nintendo Gameboy, which you could do. So if you're playing on a team and using an emulator, you may not transfer the one save file amongst each other. However, you may screen share to allow others to play on your computer as long as only one save file is ever used and never copied or moved. Finally, if you stream the challenge, I recommend saving your broadcasts, as that works for video proof. Otherwise, I recommend uploading your recordings to YouTube ahead of time and providing me with the links to those videos once they're all able to be viewed.
