Pokemon: A Budew-ing New Trainer!

[23:37] <Saia> It's been about a year since you've moved to Kanto, when you first arrived Fall had just begun and now the leaves are beginning to turn to those same shades of red, yellow, and orange. You step out of your home into the crisp morning air, the sun has barely begun to rise and the town around you is just starting to wake up.

[23:39] <Saia> The previous day the local Professor had asked you to meet him at the road leading out of town early in the morning. You've still got a half hour before you need to meet him.
[23:40] * ~Steven breathes in the fall air, his face still rather dull with sleepiness. he gives a wide yawn as he looks around, giving himself a moment to remember exactly why he's up so early again, and than starts to slowly move down the road, oblivious to how early he is yet
[23:43] <Saia> Most of your neighbors aren't even awake yet, the lights in their homes still dark. You continue on taking in the town's early morning routine, a sight you've only seen a handful of times. As you begin getting closer to the edge of town the smell of fresh bread fills your nostrils. The baker bives you a wave from his front door as you pass by.
[23:44] * ~Steven gives a sort of automatic wave in response, not really thinking about the casual action

[23:48] <Saia> Eventually you get to the hill overlooking town, the sun is now begining to rise into the sky casting shadows sideways across the place you've begun to call home. On the side of the road there should have been a sign noting the city limits as well as your meeting place with the professor, but today it seems to be blocked by a rather large tent. Loud snoring can be heard coming from

[23:49] * ~Steven finally seems to snap out of it at this extremely odd sight and cocks his head "What in the..."
[23:49] * ~Steven curiously walks closer and see's if there isn't some kind of enterance flap open
[23:51] <Saia> The entrance flap is partially open. Looking inside you can see a labcoat hanging from the ceiling, one of the pokets seems to be bulging with something.
[23:52] * ~Steven heads in quietly and checks out the bulge, before than checking on what he presumes is Professor Hall
[23:53] <Saia> Inside the pocket were two Pokeballs. One has a small fire insignia etched onto the red portion above the button. The other seems to be unused.
[23:55] * ~Steven ALMOST wants to open the pokeball, but he'd rather not risk the ire of the professor, especially not this early, instead he goes to check on the sleeping professor and gives him a light shove "Hey, Professor"
[23:56] <Saia> Saya: "Whah! Uh.....Oh...Steven, it's you. I'm sorry, I overslept."
[23:57] <Saia> "Anyway you're probably wondering why we're out here today."
[23:57] * ~Steven yawns "It's ok Professor, and uh, more than that, I'm wondering why you're sleeping out here and you know, not in your lab"
[23:59] <Saia> "Well it's a long story, some stuff came up, might've gotten kicked out for a bit, might just me being not able to wake up early, little bit of both. ANYway, let me brush my teeth then we're going for a walk."
[23:59] <~Steven> "Ok, I'll wait outside the tent"

[00:01] <Saia> A few minutes pass and he emerges from the tent dressed in his usual collared shirt, khaki pants, and signature labcoat.
[00:01] <Saia> "So Steven, how's Eva doing?"
[00:03] <~Steven> "She's doing ok professor." Steven says with a smile, patting his waist where eva's ball is attached "It's nice to have a friend like ehr around, I can't thank you enough"
[00:04] <Saia> "It's my pleasure, though I've been wondering for a while now. I know it's rather late, but how would you feel about traveling around the region, maybe taking on the league?"
[00:05] * ~Steven freezes, than smiles ecstatically "You're kidding right? I'd /love/ to! Man that would be so awesome!" than he stops himself, and seems a little depressed "...ah, but my dad'd probably be kinda against that"
[00:06] <Saia> "Tell you what, if you pass the test I have for you today, I'll go talk to him about letting you travel."
[00:07] * ~Steven grins "Throw it at me than."
[00:07] <Saia> "Great, let's go for that walk."
[00:08] <Saia> The professor seems to take a step before turning back and digging in his pocket, "Oh you're gonna need these."
[00:09] <Saia> After a beat he holds out the two Pokeballs to Steven, "One contains another Pokemon for you, the other, well it's for the test."
[00:09] * ~Steven takes them carefully "Another pokemon?"
[00:10] <Saia> "Consider it your starter Pokemon, if you pass and leave that'll be its role. If not then consider it a gift."
[00:10] <Saia> "What you need to do is simple, catch the first wild Pokemon you see."
[00:12] * ~Steven gives a much wider grin at that "Really? I get to catch my own?"
[00:12] <Saia> "Yep, you remember how don't you? Weaken it in a battle, maybe hit it with a status or two, then toss a ball at it."
[00:13] <~Steven> "Yeah, I definitly remember, don't worry Professor Hall, this'll be cake, just watch!"
[00:14] <Saia> "Just call me by my first name, Saya. Kinda hate formalities. Anyway lets go for that walk."
[00:14] <~Steven> "Right, sorry Saya, forgot." Steven grins and scratches his head in embarassment
[00:15] * ~Steven follows Saya
[00:16] <Saia> The professor begins to lesurely walk directly into the small wooded area that surrounds the town. Every so often you see him spray himself with what looks like a homemade repel, but the color seems off and a welcoming aroma fills the air every time he sprays it."
[00:18] <Saia> Eventually you come to a small clearing, the ground is littered with hues of red, orange, and bright green........wait, bright green? Two small plants are in the middle of the clearing surrounded by what looks to be four rocks with arms.
[00:19] <~Steven> "Hey those are... Geodude right?"
[00:20] <Saia> "Yeah, looks like they got knocked out by something though....Hmmmm, why don't you go check it out? Something might pop out at ya."
[00:21] * ~Steven gives a hesitant nod, a little nervous now that the time has arrived, he walks cautiously closer, a hand on the pokeball for his new pokemon
[00:21] <Saia> The professor sits down at the edge of the clearing pulling out a can of hot coffee sipping at it as he waits for you to check the situation out.
[00:23] <Saia> As you get closer you notice two things. First, that the geodude are in fact unconcious. Second, the odd plants are beginning to move.
[00:24] * ~Steven quickly grabs the new pokemon and tosses it out "Go..." he shouts, before realizing he has no idea what in the ball
[00:26] <Saia> In a few seconds the plants have popped out of the ground and have turned to face you. Standing in front of you are a pair of Budew, their vines twitch as they see you. A flash of light later and standing between you and the Budew is a small mouse. Dark green fur covers the top of its body with a soft cream covering its underside. The red spots on its back give off heat and the occasional

[00:28] * ~Steven smiles "Awesome a cyndaquil... and these are budew... wel that explains why the geodude are unconcious"

[00:32] * ~Steven starts by attempting to channel cyndaquil, to better be in sync with it, his way of sort of saying hello

[00:35] <Saia> The new Pokemon seems to block you out causing a backlash of energy to hit you. ((lose 10 hp))
[00:35] <Saia> The two Budew seem to stare at the two new intruders to "their" territory. Standing there they do nothing but wait to see what you do.
[00:36] <Saia> Cinders has gained initiative
[00:36] * ~Steven cringes but doesnt lose his smile "Aw don't be like that, don't worry, I won't hurt you, maybe I should wait till a little later to do that though. "Use... ember?"
[00:37] * ~Steven has no idea what moves this thing knows currently
[00:38] <Saia> Hearing the word "ember" seems to trigger something inside its mind. It turns to the larger Budew and spits a small flame at it.

[00:41] <Saia> The flames seem to envelop the plant and eventually it falls over with a trail of smoke rising from it's body.

[00:42] <Saia> Steven has gained initiative

[00:43] <Saia> The small Pokemon once again blocks you out. Though you feel like you got closer this time.

[00:45] <Saia> After seeing it's friend erupt in flames the other budew sprays water in the air above it, coating itself in moisture.
[00:45] <Saia> Cinders has recieved initiative
[00:46] <~Steven> "Ok, what else would this thing know that WON'T burn a budew to a crisp... Tackle!" the cyndaquil, seems to kinda shrug before hurling itself at the budew remaining

[00:48] <Saia> The Budew in a suprisingly nimble movement dodges out of the way of the oncoming attack.

[01:01] <Saia> The tackle collides solidly tossing the Budew back a few feet. It gets up looking very winded with a large bruise forming on its body. It is struggling to stay standing."

[01:03] * ~Steven is practicly jittering in excitement and nervousness as he grips the pokeball that Saya gave him, he takes a deep breath "Here goes nothing" and tosses it at the budew!

[01:03] * Crunk --> "Steven rolls 1d100+5 and gets 28."
[01:04] <Saia> The ball sails through the air before colliding, and enveloping the Budew.
[01:04] <Saia> Falling to the ground it shakes
[01:04] <Saia> Once....
[01:04] <Saia> Twice.....
[01:04] <Saia> Three times......
[01:05] <Saia> *Ding*
[01:05] <Saia> (Budew has been caught. It is level 9, Naughty nature- It knows Water Sport, Growth, Absorb, and Pin Missile)
[01:07] * ~Steven punches his fist into the air, jumping at the same time "YES!" Cinders kinda gives a glance than gives a halfhearted imitation
[01:07] <Saia> As the Pokeball lets off the noise signaling a successful capture Saya walks out of the brush and gives Steven a congradulatory pat on the back, "Nice work Steven. I knew you could do it."
[01:08] <~Steven> "Thanks Saya! But uh... we should probably check on the one the cyndaquil set on fire" Steven says sheepishly
[01:09] <Saia> "Right!"
[01:10] * ~Steven hurries over to check on the budew, and collect the one he caught
[01:12] <Saia> The Professor runs over to the slightly charred Pokemon and digs out another ball from his pocket, you can barely make out the word "SAVE" scrawled on the top of the ball. After a second the budew is inside the ball and it ports away to the PC. "Saveballs, gotta love them. The PC will leave it in stasis until I can get back to the lab and use my Pokecenter machines on it."

[01:14] * ~Steven sighs in relief "Thank Arceus, it wouldn't have been cool if me and Cinders here had accidentally killed it"
[01:14] <Saia> With the battle over and the Budew caught, a peaceful air has returned to the area. The professor can't help but smile at your victory.
[01:15] <Saia> "Yes, it's great news that noone died here today, but in the future things might not be so lucky and you need to be prepared for that."
[01:15] <Saia> "But enough sad news, you need to go home and start packing for your trip."
[01:15] <~Steven> "Right!"
[01:16] <Saia> "I already talked to your father last week, it took a bit of prodding, but he agreed to let you go if I felt you were ready."
[01:17] * ~Steven picks up Cinders, who squirms a little, but just kinda slumps in Stevens arms after a moment. and picks up the caught budew, attaching it to his belt "Wait, really? and you didn't tell?!"
[01:18] <Saia> "That would ruin the whole point of today. You gave it your all because our dream was on the line, and that's what this journey is about. Doing all you can for the sake of your dreams."
[01:19] * ~Steven sighs but grins "I guess you're right Saya. thanks for this, really."
[01:20] <Saia> "It's no trouble. Now, go home pack and get some rest. You'll be meeting me and the others at the lab tomorrow at 4 am sharp."
[01:20] <~Steven> "others?"
[01:22] <Saia> "What's a journey without friends? I started off on my own when I was a bit older than you. I was miserable until I met some people to travel with. Believe me Steven, the friends you make on this journey are ones to last a lifetime."
[01:22] <Saia> The professor gives a whistful smile as he looks off in the sky.
[01:23] * ~Steven nods "Got it. I can't wait to meet them than" Steven begins trotting in a hurry back to town, shouting back as he goes "See you tomorrow!"
[01:23] <Saia> "Anyway, 4am at the lab. There's a place you need to reach before sunrise."
[01:23] <~Steven> "4 am got it!"
[01:24] <Saia> Saya chuckles as he waves to the new trainer already filled to the brim with excitement.
