"okay so i hope you understand who haneul is through the perspectives of those around her, including herself. she's so much more than she seems, which isn't a lot since she doesn't talk too much, but she's really insightful and stuff. she has lots of thoughts and it's never been easy for her to organize them, so why talk about them? so yeah...and she can be really stubborn about things like taking care of or doing things herself because she's so independent. but otherwise she's very chill, very go with the flow. she's pretty adaptable, which is why partnering with her isn't as awkward as people think, especially since she's very observant ( which is what happens when you don't talk - you listen ), so she knows how people work and it doesn't take long for her to act accordingly to their personality. basically, she's just the epitome of 'you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover'. there are people who think she's shy, quiet, etc., but she's really...not. she has a lot to say, little insightful haneul, but with an, er, interesting bringing-up, she doesn't feel comfortable saying those things to anyone she herself isn't comfortable  with. jang haneul is anything but shy and quiet, mind you - she's a very quirky girl. she talks to herself in class in the back corner where her seat is, she loves puns and old man humor, she's pretty sarcastic, she doesn't mind a good argument / discussion on theories of corruption, etc. and her acquaintances know this - haneul high has become accustomed to jang haneul's chill personality - she doesn't in and try to take over the spotlight, but she doesn't sit back and do nothing, either. those people who think she's super shy are those who probably haven't had a class with her, because just a few hours with haneul will show you she's different. jang haneul is a nice balance in everyone's life, someone you don't really think about but are grateful for because she's convenient. of course, there are those who have had the opportunity to get closer to her and appreciate more than her convenient compatability - things like her humor, her compassion for others, her soft, caring heart, her puns. she thinks violence is never the answer and that everything is always her fault, hence her apologizing when someone bumps into her on the street, but that's where these people come in - to toughen her up and stand up for her and be her foundation."

BACKGROUND┇

[ MIRACLE BABY ]
lee jinsu - haneul's birth mother, jang soohyuk's first love, a druggie. jinsu kept the addiction on the downlow throughout her marriage to hyuk, but she stopped completely during her pregnancy because the fact that there was a human being in her was such a snap back to reality. haneul is considered, by vERY VERY close family members, as a miracle baby, because it was a miracle that she came out normally from her mother's womb. however, not realizing this blessing, jinsu didn't raise haneul very affectionately. she just did the necessary deeds of a mother, and when haneul turned 2, her mother ran away.

[ GROWING UP ]

as haneul was raised by her mother, there wasn't much affection showed, evidently. jinsu just fed her and changed her diaper and it was such a platonic mother/daughter relationship and there wasn't enough love expressed for baby haneul to feel, so with that being the first kind of environment she was exposed to, haneul became pretty introverted in the sense of not really opening up very quickly. without motherly love being such a prominent thing in her early years, it made her different from other kids and it became hard for her to have such intimate relationships with people outside of her family. in elementary and america, she spent lots of her time alone, with no friends, but as she grew up and went through puberty, she started maturing her mindset and haneul is now, as a result, more open to people than she was before. from lonely introvert haneul came an amiable, compassionate ambivert who is still learning how to make friends.

— haneul ends up getting along with bangtan really well ! bc yes chill personality and same sense of humor and really haneul just finds all of them very amusing - jin is amusingly awkward, yoongi is amusingly lazy, namjoon is amusingly clumsy, hoseok is amusingly hyper, jimin is amusingly precious, and taehyung is amusingly taehyung. they just make her laugh so much because they're so...ridiculous. so many different personalities and their group dynamic is everywhere but it's perfect and idk their existence just makes haneul laugh
— she's the type to do little acts of kindness for her friends, such as pulling them out of the way when people are trying to get by, holding their stuff for them when they look like they need it, adjusting their clothes for them when their hands are full, getting stuff out of their hair, etc. and she does it all silently, and jaein's used to it, so she just kind of ignores it HAH but of course jeon is like wOW YOU'RE SO OBSERVANT THANKS HANEUL.
— he doesn't like maneuvering through big crowds - it's always a difficult feat for her. she usually just holds her arms in front of her like she's praying and looks straight ahead, trying to be as smooth as possible as she continuously repeats 'sorry sorry sorry' over and over again until she gets out and she can bREATH

it was the typical situation in which there's the trustworthy, reliable student who excels in the subject and then the just as hardworking but still failing student who the teacher doesn't have time to personally teach all the time. oh wow, reliable student, you have time, right ?? of course you do, you always stay here after school, don't you? of course she does. it wasn't long into the first semester that jang haneul and jeon jungkook met face to face - they've always heard of each other, of course. 'jeon jungkook, the only freshman in varsity ! has a huge fanbase ! excels at everything!' 'jang haneul, the super chic girl who talks to herself in class - IS FAKE - shut up suri'. the things they've heard of each other have varied, but they haven't really given a lot of thought to their own opinions on each other. until they had to - jungkook stalled going to basketball practice to talk to his english teacher about how he could raise his grade because wow is his mother disappointed, and just when the teacher is delving into his nth explanation about how he doesn't give extra credit and he doesn't have time to personally tutor jungkook, haneul walks by. a slight bow of her head in greeting to the teacher is all it takes - "oi, jang haneul !! come here, come here !" haneul sees the expressions on both of the men's faces...and she immediately knows what's happening. hesitantly, she inches towards the pair of males staring at her. "...yes...?" "you're one of my best students, you know that? and this here..." mr. yang drags jungkook closer to him, ruffling his hair playfuly. "is one of my worst." jungkook acts extremely offended, but it's all in good fun. haneul, however, is still uneasy - she stands there, awkwardly laughing. "so haneul, do you think you could do everyone involved a huge favor and tutor this boy?" jungkook's eyes slightly widen - for some reason, this wasn't what he had been expecting. who knows what he thought was going to happen, but this wasn't it. but he doesn't really have any...bad feelings towards haneul, so why not? and she's smart, so. and then there's haneul's side - hmm...tutoring the only freshman on the varsity team who has a freakin fanbase wth this is high school who has fanbases. but you can't say no to teachers - or at least haneul definitely can't. so here they are now - student and tutor ! after she hesitantly agreed that day, mr. yang bidded the two well, jungkook rushed off to basketball practice, and haneul shuffled back to work. that was their first meeting - abrupt, rushed and unintentional.

 they continued thinking about each other and wondering how this whole tutoring concept would go about. jungkook had decided that she was simply a quiet, smart girl who listened well to her elders and probably got at least a little slack since her dad's the principal. haneul was prepared for anything - deciding that he could be stuck up due to his whole fanbase thing and then also knowing that he doesn't really have any friends except for those 6 hyungs. so into the library they went, meeting at a table in the far corner. they both surprised each other that day. haneul turned out to be witty, not at all shy, and, as expected, intelligent. jungkook turned out to be the shyer one, mostly because he was taken aback by haneul's outgoingness. their first meeting as tutor and student turned out to go from awkward to comfortable very quickly.

you know how it is, they're not obliged to see each other, so they kind of just drift away. they were still pretty close, though. close enough to bump into each other the earlier in the day before she joins and be like "oh hi -- hey -- hey haven't seen you in -- i need to go to this thing -- oh yeah ! -- dude that's cool -- yeah man -- kay see you later !"  okay bc tbh these two have been interested in each other since the beginning especially since they're both kind of lonely ?? it was the first time they'd really befriended anyone, esp of the other gender, so they couldn't help but see each other as a man and woman you know not just as tutor or friend. and honestly, why not ? jeon jungkook was hard to resist - he was good looking, muscular, smart, talented, etc. and haneul was just so interesting to jungkook - he had known of her unique personality previously, but there were so many little things about her he found intriguing and she just pulled him in. and of course, as best friends do, haneul tells (another slot?) about her feelings about jungkook - note : not feelings towards him, just feelings about him in general. she simply thinks he's good-looking, attractive, and she wants to get to know him, but do you really hear that when you overhear someone talking about you? yes, jungkook finds himself unintentionally eavesdropping on a conversation between the two girlfriends and he finds out what haneul thinks of him and how interesting she finds him and so of course he's like "wOW KANG HANEUL YET ANOTHER ADDITION TO MY FANBASE ??" and her and jane are like "oK WTF WHAT --" and jeon's just like hohoho and he kind of doesn't think much of it but hANEUL IS FREAKING OUT but she can pretty much tell he thinks it's nothing so she's like ok this will be over soon but jeon jungkook being jeon jungkook, he continuously brings it up throughout their friendship - "wow, to think that we'd end up being in the same club? you must be so happy!" "hey, what do you like about me?" "it's ok, haneul, you can fall asleep on my shoulder" etc. and haneul is so like omfg can you nOT but the thing is the feelings dON'T GO AWAY. if anything they get even bIGGER because she's spending so much time with him and she just can't help but get to know him and talk to him and have fun with him because when he's not teasing her about her 'crush' on him, they actually have lots of fun together, because that's what friends do, right?
