  1. /ptg/ pokken tournament FAQ
  2.
  3. >shouldn't this be on /vp/
  4. A) /vp/ only cares about the roster
  5. B) /vg/ is more accessible to people wanting to legitimately discuss the game
  6. C) that's implying /vp/ talks about the games
  7.
  8. >What does it play like?
  9. The game is a hybrid of 3D arena fighting games (Ex: gundam: extreme vs., naruto ultimate ninja storm) and traditional 2D fighting games (Ex: street fighter, marvel vs. capcom, mortal kombat)
  10.
  11. >So what are the basics?
  12. You have three basic attack buttons: Weak, Strong, and Pokemon Attack.
  13. Using certain button combinations you can use Counter Attacks or Grabs which can counter attack moves or grab a blocking/shielding opponent respectively.
  14. These form a triangle:
  15. Counters beat Basic Attacks, Grabs beat Counters, and Basic Attacks beat Grabs. Guarding protects against everything but grabs, but certain attacks will do a small amount of damage even through guard.
  16. In Field Phase your weak attacks are typically projectiles and strong attacks are typically melee attacks that track/home. In Duel Phase, weak attacks and strong attacks are both typically melee and not tracking.
  17.
  18. >what exactly is a phase?
  19. Field Phase is the initial stage of combat where you may move your pokemon freely, and Duel Phase is the second stage of combat that is more akin to other fighting games where you fight on a 2D playing field.
  20.
  21. >how do you switch between phases?
  22. multiple factors such as:
  23. -dealing enough damage
  24. -getting a grab
  25. -completing a combo
  26. -landing a high damaging attack
  27. -landing a super (will always change into field phase)
  28. Switching phases also restores red health
  29. More info at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qEBZFpcP84FdMa7rxirWZpV1UIXNYLCb8uq-uPiK3JE/edit#gid=76683771
  30.
  31. >how does the game control?
  32. the controls itself is pretty simple as it controls with directional inputs (i.e. super smash bros.)
  33.
  34. >what controllers does it work with?
  35. wii U gamepad, pro controller, classic controller pro, wiimote & nunchuck, and the official pokken tournament hori pad
  36.
  37. >is it deep/complex?

  40. >what are the button inputs?
  41. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-BXewNjbF-x8/VMNl9FR1A1I/AAAAAAAAAPM/NogUAmDgGzY/w410-h645-no/PokkenController.jpg

  43. X+A = grabs
  44. L+R = synergy burst/super attacks

  46. >what's a block attack?
  47. block attacks grant super armor to your character in order to counter attack anything that isn't a grab
  48.
  49. >what are assist sets?
  50. assist sets are two pairs of pokemon you can use to help you in battle (i.e. marvel vs capcom). each pair is set in stone and cannot be swapped, but during rounds you can choose which one you want
  51.
  52. >whats a synergy burst?
  53. synergy bursts are power boosts every character has access to once the burst gauge is filled. they restore green HP, increase damage, gain access to extra moves, can break out o combos once activated and they have to be activated in order to use super moves (super moves can only be used once per burst.)
