  7.
  8. “I have not heard from no one, no one and I don't think that's right. I don't think it's fair. I know it's not going to bring my son back but I just want some closure,” said Dawn McIntosh.

  23. We met at the park to commemorate Roshad McIntosh around 5pm. We had conversations having to do with the "police occupation of our neighborhoods" . Roshad's community had a lot to say about the "evil and despicable" ways the Chicago Police Department manage their communities. From brutal interrogations, to arrests, to murder.
  24.
  25. There were people grilling, playing basketball, most everyone having serious conversations about the way the police exist and manifest in their daily lives. From conversations with many residents, the Chicago Police Department seems to make life miserable for the people living in Roshad's community. The Chicago FDLA (First Defense Legal Aid) was tabling, along with Stop Police Crimes Chicago talking to folks, passing out cards letting people know they can call FDLA for free legal assistance upon arrest. People gathered today to help each other grieve and process, all in support of Dawn (Roshad's mother), Antoinette (Roshad's girlfriend), and Roshad's grandmother, Ollie.
  26.
  27. "We got our sunshine back" as I heard someone say and we continued with our vigil for Roshad. The community is thinking and talking about next steps to address the campaign of terror, imprisonment, and extermination on behalf of the Chicago Police Department. We will meet on Monday, September 1st, 5PM. Roshad's Park (lot adjacent to where the cops murdered him). The community is planning on marching to the cop station demanding an immediate release of the police records involving the fatal shooting of Roshad, a fully autopsy report, and of course, the names of the officers involved in the murder of Roshad McIntosh.
  28.
  29. They are also figuring out how to address and stop the police violence that is a fact of daily existence. Right on time, 20 CPD officers rolled up to the area where the boys were playing basketball, throwing the ball around. Seriously. Many of the cops pulled up with hands on their weapons (tasers, guns) and forcibly grabbed a young man. CPD claims they had gotten call about "someone wearing a white shirt with a gun". Most everyone playing basketball was shirtless, so CPD grabbed the first boy wearing a white t shirt they saw. The community was not having it, they stood up and challenged CPD and got the boy unarrested. Then people diffused the situation and we all got back to what we were doing before the Chicago Police Department decided to have their brutal display of power and control over us. We all knew the phone call about the gun was bogus. CPD showed up 20 men strong (& a few women), with hands on their weapons, to a space where people are beginning to fundamentally challenge the sickening violence that seems to pervade the actions of the Chicago Police. CPD scared.

  37.
  38. Chicago 8/29 -- Today at 5pm, at 2600 W Harrison, Roshad McIntosh's community will hold another protest in his name. An announcement for the gathering was posted last night to Facebook and Twitter: https://twitter.com/Santo_Peregrino/status/505196275386843136
  39.
  40. Roshad was shot by police on August 24th in his North Lawndale neighborhood. At a press conference Wednesday, Firedoglake reports, his mother Dawn said, “My son was killed senselessly, and he shouldn't have been. He was surrendering, and they shot him anyway. He was on his knees with both hands up begging for his life. They killed him.”

  44.
  45. Community members organizing these protests say: "We want the name of the cop that killed Roshad. We want him arrested and held accountable - immediately. We want every cop who was present the night Roshad was murdered to be held accountable. We want the police out of our communities - their racist campaign of terrorizing us, brutalizing us, putting us in prison cages and exterminating us has to end immediately. We want our community park back, immediately. We want our programs and the resources to benefit our kids and our communities that will lead to self-empowerment and autonomy."
