  1. [F4A] [Script offer] You came here for my story, instead of my head? I will tell you the truth of my monstrous form… [Medusa] [Monster girl] [Story] of [Abuse] [Rejection] [Isolation] [Falsehoods] [Loneliness] [Grief] but feels [Empowered] [Friends] and [Trust] in you.
  2.
  3. ---
  4.
  5. (The sounds of echoing footsteps is all that can be heard at first)
  6.
  7. Stop where you are, human.
  8.
  9. You dare enter my temple?
  10.
  11. Have you not heard legends of my horrifying nature?
  12.
  13. You enter the lair of Medusa, human.
  14.
  15. The woman that turns men to stone with a glance.
  16.
  17. You can’t see me, not yet...
  18.
  19. I linger in the shadows, giving you a moment of Solace before the end.
  20.
  21. Speak your reasons for entering my temple.
  22.
  23. You wish to know my story? What foolishness is this?
  24.
  25. You’ve heard the legends. You know the tales. That I was cursed from jealousy, that Poseidon took me, a mortal of all beings in Athena’s own temple...
  26.
  27. And then I was cursed with this form by Athena herself. Snakes for hair, slithering...
  28.
  29. And thus, I became a powerful gorgon, a monster bent on killing all who came close as I enjoy the screams of men.
  30.
  31. Should you look upon me, you will become stone. Look around you.
  32.
  33. You see a thousand statues. These statues were not carved, human, but made. I made them from the men that came for me with threats of violence or glory.
  34.
  35. But you wish for a story?
  36.
  37. I sense no lies beneath your tongue, but pardon be if I begin with an absence of trust.
  38.
  39. But I will grant your wish. It may not change your fate.
  40.
  41. Surely you know the tale.
  42.
  43. Tell me what you’ve heard.
  44.
  45. (pause)
  46.
  47. Indeed...
  48.
  49. I united with Poseidon, and Athena cursed me in a fit of rage, making me into a monster whom kills all who approach, a monster meant to be put down.
  50.
  51. But it is not the truth, human.
  52.
  53. Athena, she—she protected me.
  54.
  55. In her temple, Poseidon indeed, took me.
  56.
  57. But I did not consent.
  58.
  59. He raped me.
  60.
  61. Let me say it again.
  62.
  63. He raped me before my goddess.
  64.
  65. Because I was beautiful. Because I was celibate. He lusted after me, and felt he deserved it.
  66.
  67. He felt he deserved my flesh.
  68.
  69. Deserve. The worlds most monstrous word. As if anyone would truly deserve my body but myself.
  70.
  71. At times, I wonder if his worshippers even know about his deeds.
  72.
  73. Perhaps some simply look away, wishing to gain his benefit across the seas, not willing to bear the fallout of rejecting him for such things.
  74.
  75. Perhaps they believe it a lie, as a god of such prestige would not stoop to such an act.
  76.
  77. Clearly a woman would do anything if a god willed it, would she not?
  78.
  79. What woman would reject a god?
  80.
  81. Me. I did.
  82.
  83. The lies, they—they pain me. For a time I blamed myself. If I weren’t beautiful, perhaps it wouldn’t have happened. Perhaps it was my fault. Perhaps the effort I put in led him along.
  84.
  85. But most of all, I am hurt by those that were once close to me, that think me a liar, or speak of my beauty as if it were deserved to happen to me.
  86.
  87. Deserve. As I said...one of the worlds most monstrous words.
  88.
  89. A monstrous word that created a monster. Created me.
  90.
  91. What do you think of this, human?
  92.
  93. Your reaction is not as I would expect...
  94.
  95. You believe me?
  96.
  97. I do not sense a lie within your words, but I am yet hesitant to believe you.
  98.
  99. This, curse, these...snakes, are the opposite of one’s assumptions.
  100.
  101. They are my protection.
  102.
  103. My gaze is my protection.
  104.
  105. Did you not know the root of my name, Human?
  106.
  107. That’s what Medusa means—to protect.
  108.
  109. Athena gifted me with my gaze, such that those who would strike against me, if any were to try what Poseidon once did...
  110.
  111. They would become stone as they truly deserve.
  112.
  113. And yet, I remain here.
  114.
  115. Hiding from the world with my protection, because should I leave, the world of men would run in fear. They would hate me. They would come for me. They would die when they came for me, when they lusted after me thinking they deserved something...
  116.
  117. You couldn’t imagine how this would feel, human.
  118.
  119. The feeling like something you make your own, is something to pity. Something to fear. Something to hate.
  120.
  121. Something to encourage attackers.
  122.
  123. To believe that something gifted to me, to stop abuse of the future, were a monstrous curse upon me...
  124.
  125. It is as if the world laughs in the face of the females all over.
  126.
  127. After all this time, after what happened...
  128.
  129. I feel so alone in my struggle.
  130.
  131. Athena aids me, she—she was the only one who believed me.
  132.
  133. But all others isolated me from the world.
  134.
  135. That is why I stay here. I feel comfort, knowing I disturb no others. Knowing I am far from their hate, yet they find me...
  136.
  137. No, human.
  138.
  139. My gaze only petrifies those who I wish to. Those that deserve such things. Those with nefarious intent.
  140.
  141. There was a time I tried to admit to the world what happened, and I was met with resistance. I spoke of Poseidon’s misdeeds, I dated to bare my truth to them, and I only received three things in return.
  142.
  143. Rejection.
  144.
  145. Fear.
  146.
  147. Doubt.
  148.
  149. (Weak laugh) You say that I’m not alone.
  150.
  151. But what could you possibly know?
  152.
  153. It’s true, you do not know my struggle.
  154.
  155. Tell me of your struggles.
  156.
  157. (Lengthy pause, with slight sounds of okay, mhm, or indicators that she understands/is listening)
  158.
  159. But you have your own.
  160.
  161. I suppose we all do, and I did not mean to invalidate yours.
  162.
  163. Not my fault...
  164.
  165. I appreciate those words.
  166.
  167. But why would you believe me?
  168.
  169. I see.
  170.
  171. I feel hesitant to believe that you do indeed trust my words.
  172.
  173. Tell me. Do you truly believe a woman would reject a god?
  174.
  175. You do? Why?
  176.
  177. Hm.
  178.
  179. Yes, everyone has their reasons. I had mine.
  180.
  181. But regardless of the reasons...yes. It’s true.
  182.
  183. It is never deserved.
  184.
  185. Yes. I agree. We should lift another up, just as my goddess did for me, rather than succumb to the lies of men, believing my goddess would curse me in jealousy for the sins of a vile god.
  186.
  187. We must be allies to one another.
  188.
  189. You wish to see me?
  190.
  191. Human...
  192.
  193. You do realize if I have told you falsehoods, or if you have nefarious intent, you could be petrified the moment I step out of the shadows?
  194.
  195. I see...you wish to trust me. To have faith.
  196.
  197. So be it.
  198.
  199. (Light footsteps sound out, and a slight hissing)
  200.
  201. Here, view me in the light.
  202.
  203. You do not recoil...
  204.
  205. Nor do you flinch.
  206.
  207. It makes me feel…relieved.
  208.
  209. Indeed, human. You don’t turn to stone. Not if I wish to leave you unharmed.
  210.
  211. Not if you have pure intentions.
  212.
  213. It has been some time since one looked upon me like this. It is...soothing.
  214.
  215. (Her tone grows happier, relieved) How do you feel about my appearance?
  216.
  217. You do not seem to hate it, which comes as a surprise. The snakes cause many to run, if they are not petrified.
  218.
  219. They are extensions of me, yet separate—it is difficult to explain.
  220.
  221. Your eyes feel welcoming.
  222.
  223. They watch me, but in a way that feels warming, rather than cold.
  224.
  225. No recoil, no disbelief...
  226.
  227. I sense...trust.
  228.
  229. (Weakly, emotional) Faith.
  230.
  231. Thank you. This has shown me something.
  232.
  233. Perhaps others in this world may lift us up, so we may all rise above our pain.
  234.
  235. However, I must think on our interaction.
  236.
  237. Now go, human.
  238.
  239. I will not grow trust in others yet, but...
  240.
  241. You may go from my home. The first to leave safely.
  242.
  243. If you wish to come back...
  244.
  245. I would welcome it. Perhaps we may speak of lighter things.
  246.
  247. Be safe in the eyes of the goddess.
  248.
  249. It was lovely to meet you.
