  1. I am a proactive and motivated graduate with a strong passion for the tech industry, who loves doing side projects and game jams that push my knowledge of new languages, libraries, and frameworks. I have been self-employed as a web-developer for the past 3 years, developing small responsive sites for local clients and businesses. These have ranged from static websites, to a full WooCommerce-powered web store, integrated with Stripe, Paypal and Facebook. This work has given me great experience with client interactions, having developed the ability to distil their vision and ideas into a set of requirements that I could fulfil.
  2. I have deep knowledge of using and managing the LAMP stack, as part of my self-employment involved hosting their sites for them. For the first 2 years I used self-managed servers in the cloud, and became adept at managing Apache and MySQL, before later transitioning to MariaDB.
  3. During my second year of university, I was the lead programmer in a team tasked to create a small mobile app. As the only one in the team with web experience, I designed and built a RESTful API using PHP and MySQL to retrieve and collate cooking recipes.
  4. In personal projects, I’ve explored a lot of web technologies including Node.js and MongoDB. In my portfolio, you’ll find a link to a project I started to familiarise myself with these technologies; it’s a Facebook chat bot which functions as the interface for a MUD (multi-user dungeon), where players can move around different rooms, read descriptions of their environment, and eventually interact with each other.
