- The day of humanity's fall was unsurprisingly mundane. It had started off like the usual saturday, with the student traffic being less dense, and plenty of people out enjoying the day. The first sign of an underlying discomfort in the air was the faint smell of... something. Maybe blood. Most ignored it. I refused to do so. Instead, I stepped back inside of my friend's home, closing and locking the door behind me.
- "You seem kinda spooked. What's the matter? Soccer moms too intimidating?" asked Thomas, the aforementioned friend and owner of the home.
- "It smelled like... iron. Stale blood." I replied coldly, moving past Tom and into the living room.
- "Hey, hey, hey, Percy, calm down, dude. It's nothing," Thomas began, trying to keep me out of the haze of panic that threatened to rise up and suffocate me from the inside out. The kindness was sadly never repaid, as at that moment, the large window that looked over the front lawn smashed inward, and a blur of motion was the only thing I saw before I was on the ground, pinned down. Tom followed soon after.
- By then, I was mostly dead.
- Mostly.
