vrc does not require you to map it, but it DOES apparently still use it regardless for ik purposes. The beta patch notes literally say they adjusted upper chest bone behavior, and in their discord's open beta channel, I learned apparently they've long since fixed whatever it was that made them initially tell the upper chest bone to fuck off. Like, it's used passively by the IK system without it needing to be mapped
