He has close ties with his siblings, with his stepsister Jenny and half-sister Laura. Unlike his behaviour with outsiders, he amiably lets the pair boss him around, though privately at the price of Jenny's help with his rather dismal homework.

Michael never knew his birth mother, Samantha Amber, as she died in childbirth, and his father, Joshua Amber, is perpetually occupied with work, traveling as the job demands. He spent most of his early years going from one babysitter to another, making friends with the other children at daycare, but never having proper family.
Then his father remarried and the world changed for Michael. While both parents remained largely occupied, he now had family, and a permanent home to return to. Jenny is seemed rather bossy, but he rather welcomed the attention.

But mainly [i]other[/i] people. Getting herself in danger is par for the course.

Once, Michael and Jenny were returning home from picking up Laura at school, well past curfew due to a storm. The three of them encounter a thick mist, followed by a horrific monster, upon which they were separated. Michael encounters a man in red, who makes him an offer to gain the power to save his sisters.
He really should have asked what form the power would take.
