  3. Anon?
  4. >Rainbow dash looks up at you with a quivering lip and eyes too big to believe.
  5. Yeah Dash?
  6. >Blushing and pawing at nothing, she looks at her hooves.
  7. Will... Will you please hold me?
  8. >A smile creeps across your face
  9. Of course, Dashie.
  10. >Eye contact and a great big smile, she leaps up into your arms with a flap of her wings.
  11. >Rainbow takes a deep breath and returns it as a gentle sigh.
  12. >It crawls across your collarbone up your neck.
  13. >You and Rainbow spend a long moment in stasis, just enjoying the peace and smell of each other.
  14. >Then along comes Twilight
  15. Hey Anon! Hey Rainbow!
  16. >A wry, mischievous little grin cracks Rainbow's face, she opens her mouth to speak in a teasing, low voice as she readjusts herself to be pressed up closer to you.
  17. Heya
  18. >Her dock wiggles it's way out of your hand, tail following.
  19. >Your palm is now pressed right against her ponut and labia.
  20. Twi-light
  21. >Twilight's carefree grin turns into a pout in a matter of nano-seconds.
  22.
  23. Rainbow dash there's no need for that, we can take turns shar-
  24. >Her plea is brought to a halt once she sees Rainbow's face.
  25. >Rainbow's eyebrow is cocked and she stares derisively, she's begun grinding into your hand.
  26. >Twilight snorts and stomps a hoof
  27. Rainbow! Please don-
  28. >Rainbow interrupts her once again, this time with a short raspberry.
  29. >Twilight recoils as though shes been physically attacked, gasping
  30. >Sensing the rising tension you attempt to diffuse the situation by rotating away, only for Dash to maneuver herself so that she can continue tormenting Twilight.
  31. >She twists and writhes in your grasp, leaning over your shoulder one moment and peaking under your armpit the next, all so that Twilight must look at her smug face.
  32. Anon, please don't let her-
  33. pbbbbbt
  34. Rainbow dash!
  35. Pbbbbbt!
  36. Stop doing-
  37. PBBBBBT!
  38. >By this point Twilight's eyes are glassy and cheeks are cherry red.
  39. >She hangs her head, sniffling as she pleads in a small voice:
  40. Anon... please... will you-
  41. PBBBBbbbBBBBTTT!!!
  42. >Twilight collapses to the ground in a pile of sobs, utterly defeated, completely submissive.
  43. >Uneven, hitched breaths run through her lavender body, swelling and deflating.
  44. >She covers her face with her hooves, completely spread out otherwise.
  45. >Seeing her pitiful posture and hearing her cries greatly upsets you.
  46. >You pull your head back a few inches to look at Rainbow, who blushes and looks anywhere else.
  47. >The thought of reprimanding her crosses your mind before you remember how useless it would be.
  48. >Besides, if the wetness on your hand is anything to go by, she probably isn't sorry.
  49. >You shift Rainbow onto one arm and take a knee, placing your free hand onto Twilight's head.
  50. >Her sobs quell, and she peaks an eye out from behind her hooves.
  51. >You extend your arm into the air, making the universal gesture for "uppies?"
  52. >She crawls onto your lap and then up your body, nuzzling into your neck and moaning softly.
  53.
  54. >Twilight spends a few moments just rubbing her face into you, drying her eyes with your shirt collar and generally enjoying your previously tantalizing warmth.
  55. >Her moans are occasionally punctuated with a small grunt or huff.
  56. >The whole thing is rather reminiscent of a cat, you notice.
  57. >Her nuzzles draw to a close, punctuated by one final little rub and a deep sigh.
  58. >After a few long moments she pulls back, shifting her weight from your hand to your thigh, intent on looking you in the eyes.
  59. >A happy little smile adorns her face: she's feelin' fine.
  60. >You lose yourself in her eyes for a moment.
  61. 'So detailed, so colorful.'
  62. 'If ever there was a definition of beauty this is it.'
  63. >It reminds you of one of those nice screensavers at the store that shows off how high-res the tvs are.
  64. >Her eyebrows shift from that of contentment to that peculiar look someone has just before they act on a romantic impulse.
  65. "Ohhhh... My sweet Anon..."
  66. >She places a hoof on your shoulder, and another on your collarbone.
  67. >The one on your collar rubs in circles for a few moments before it grips your shirt.
  68. >She begins leaning forward.
  69. >The nearer she draws the more closed her eyes become.
  70. 'Oh christ she's going in for a kiss.'
  71. >You, the inexperienced sperg you are, are panicking.
  72. >You knew Twilight liked you, but not this kind of like.
  73. >More like a "This guy's funny and cool let's go to a diner and make cracks about people out in the street" kinda like.
  74. >Though in retrospect, it is strange how upset she gets when you can't hang out together.
  75. >Like that time when Twilight asked you if you wanted to read books together and you had to decline because you RSVP'd for Roseluck's birthday party.
  76. >It really did seem like she was going to cry, but she kept saying it'd be fine.
  77. >At the time you thought that maybe she was just like that.
  78. >Now it comes off a little differently.
  79. 'Or maybe she's this way to everyo-'
  80. 'OH FUCK'
  81. >You were distracted thinking, and now she's reached kiss position, all that's left is for you to pucker up and lean in.
  82. 'How long has she been there?'
  83. 'There's no time! Just kiss!'
  84. >Like an idiot fool you don't close your eyes, and just kind of awkwardly lean in.
  85. *slap* *chu* "Mine!" Pbbt!
  86.
  87. >Rainbow Dash.
  88.
  89. >She slapped Twilight's hoof away, kissed you on the lips, claimed you as her own and blew another raspberry, this time close enough that Twi could feel the spittle.
  90. >The sound of a dry wind fills the air.
  91. >A tumbleweed about 800 miles away from home blows by.
  92. >Twilight hasn't moved at all, face still ready to kiss.
  93. >The only change is that the hoof that was resting on your collarbone is now by her side.
  94. >Rainbow has her head pressed up against yours, cheek to cheek, forelegs wrapped around your neck.
  95. >She keeps her hind end airborne with a steady beat of wing flaps.
  96. >So many moments have passed that you wonder if Twilight has died, that her brain just deactivated and now you support her soon to be cold body.
  97. >The suspense is killing you.
  98. "Hey uh... Twi?"
  99. >Another wind blows by, its hollow sound pervades the park.
  100. >Twilight opens her eyes and stares at Rainbow Dash all in one smooth motion.
  101. >Although it wasn't violent, the suddenness causes both you and Rainbow to jump.
  102. >She doesn't look the slightest bit angry.
  103. >You can feel Rainbow falter, her grip readjusts and tightens.
  104. >Twilight's completely blank look is betrayed by her clenched jaw.
  105. >She's very clearly calculating something.
  106. >More moments of silence pass.
  107. >So many that your fear of the whole situation dies down.
  108. >Wisely or not, you decide to take charge.
  109. "Alright well it was nice seeing you both, I'm gonna head on back so..."
  110. >Neither moves.
  111. >Ponies must have some kind of non-fiber optic non-cable method of information transfer because Twilight has yet to move or blink, and Dash has yet to look away.
  112. "Well I'm just gonna, uh"
  113. >You stand up, Twilight slides off of your knee and lands on the ground with a quiet thud.
  114. >Rainbow hasn't relinquished your neck, but she did pull her head away a little.
  115. >Only so that she could maintain eye contact with Twilight, but still, baby steps.
  116. >You begin walking.
  117. >Only to stop after about a dozen steps.
  118. >You look back.
  119. >Twilight hasn't moved.
  120. >She sits on the ground in sphinx position, just staring at Rainbow.
  121. "Twilight!"
  122. You call out,
  123. "You think you can make it home okay?!"
  124. >No movement.
  125. 'Ol' Anon 'Heart too big for his own good' ymous is what they should've called me.'
  126. >Or maybe anything at all a little more clever than that, but the point rings clear.
  127. >You begin walking back towards Twilight, emotionally unable to just leave her out here.
  128. >You slide a hand underneath her barrel and lift her up like a duffel bag without a strap, cradled in the crook of your inverse-elbow.
  129. >The three of you make your way to the Treebrary in silence.
  130. >Ponies stare.
  131. >Twilight doesn't, at least. You're in between the both of them, so now she just stares forward.
  132. >Vacantly and unblinking, and shes yet to unclench her jaw, but still, baby steps.
  133. >Rainbow's grip on your neck has loosened up some more, too!
  134. >She's now flush against your back, head coming up to just past your shoulder, where she rests her chin.
  135. >The tip of her rear hooves are tucked into the back of your waistband, she stands on it bipedally.
  136. >It's a good thing your belt is strong, That's not to say she's particularly heavy.
  137. >Occasionally Dash's lips find their way to your neck and leave a little peck there.
  138. >Silently, thank god.
  139. 'Even after she's gone a country mile over the line Dash is still pushing it'
  140. >Your trio reaches the book tree after some time.
  141. >Unable to think of anything else to do, you leave Twilight on the couch.
  142. "I'll Seeya later Twi."
  143. >Silence.
  144. >Unsatisfied but unsure, you leave and begin walking home.
  145. >Home is only 30 feet away, it's a little shed in Twilight's backyard.
  146. >It's exterior was far shoddier than the interior, it was quite nice inside.
  147. >Basically a stand-alone medium sized bedroom.
  148. >You used Twilight's kitchen to cook, but a lot of the time she would just magic something up for you if you were hungry.
  149. >How nice of her.
  150. "So uh, I'll see ya tomorrow Rainbow"
  151. >Her grip tightened.
  152. "I'm pretty tired Rainbow, I'm gonna call it a night and go to bed."
  153. >She shook her head "No" into your back.
  154. "Rainbow I'm not joking."
  155. >More head shaking.
  156. >You sighed.
  157. >Twilight's backyard was something of a small garden, and naturally, had a garden chair in it.
  158. >You meandered over to it and sat down, it looked like all you could do is wait for Dash to give up.
  159. >It was late afternoon, almost dusk.
  160. >You sat for a minute or two, just looking over the sculpted shrubbery and the fountain.
  161. "Please, Dash-"
  162. "Nooooooo"
  163. "Why?"
  164. "Noooo"
  165. "Why?!"
  166. "I'm scared!"
  167. "... What?"
  168. >Rainbow let out a groan through clenched teeth before responding bitterly.
  169. "I said I'm sca-ruh-dah"
  170. >She enunciated each syllable like you were an idiot.
  171. "What? Why?"
  172. >A little headbutt and a head shake into your back.
  173. "Because."
  174. "Because?"
  175. >Silence.
  176. "Because why, Dash?"
  177. >Silence.
  178. "Because of Twilight?"
  179. >She nuzzled into you.
  180. >Two damp spots appeared on your back.
  181. >Rainbow took in a shaky breath before nodding against you.
  182. "But what are you afraid of? I don't understand, you went too far for sure Dash, but-"
  183. >Dash released a throaty whimper and tightened her grasp.
  184. "But Twilight would never hurt you."
  185. >She shrugged her shoulders.
  186. "No way, c'mon Dash. Twilight and you are literally cosmically friends. I think she might be above petty assault."
  187. "Maybe we aren't friends anymore."
  188. "I-..."
  189. >You honestly wondered. She did make Twilight cry.
  190. 'But Twilight's an easy crier.'
  191. 'Is she?'
  192. 'You've only seen her almost cry once, and it was because of you.'
  193. 'Maybe she's not like that normally, and you just have a Twilight cry aura.'
  194. 'But even still, Twilight is literally studying friendship.'
  195. 'She wouldn't end a friendship over something that small, would she?'
  196. 'Is it that small?'
  197. 'Maybe it's worth ending a friendship over.'
  198. "See? I'm right."
  199. >Rainbow Dash's voice faltered mid sentence, the rest came out all wobbly.
  200. "Even if you are I don't think she'll attack you."
  201. "Have you ever seen another pony do that Anon?
  202. "Go all silent mode like that? No but-"
  203. "So I'm right."
  204. "So apologize."
  205. "She might kill me."
  206. "Probably not. At least probably not if I'm there. I'll go with."
  207. >Rainbow let out a deep sigh, warming up your back.
  208. "Thanks, Anon. ~ ~~~~ ~~~."
  209. "What?"
  210. "I said thanks."
  211. >The both of you sat in silence for a little bit.
  212. >It was dusk now.
  213. "Dash?"
  214. "Yeah Anon?"
  215. "Why'd you tease Twilight like that?"
  216. "Because I'm Rainbow Dash."
  217. >The answer was unsatisfying but probably true.
  218. >Still though, you felt this was a little over the line for her.
  219. >As though sensing your dissatisfaction, Dash offered another answer.
  220. "It's because I'm dumb."
  221. "Hey. Do-"
  222. "It's beCAUSE I'M DUMB!"
  223. >She kicked off of the garden chair, flapping her wings to aid her jump.
  224. >Out of sight in only a handful of seconds.
  225. >You didn't bother chasing or calling out, of course.
  226. >Neither her speed or pride would facilitate either.
  227. >You leaned back and sighed.
  228. >You'd see Dash again soon, and you'd help her apologize to Twilight.
  229. >She might not be around tomorrow, but you'd probably see her within the week.
  230. 'That's not even the big problem, though'
  231. 'What about Twi?'
  232. 'What the fuck even was that?'
  233. 'Does she still like me even?'
  234. 'Do I even like her? I would've kissed her on impulse if Dash hadn't stopped me.'
  235. 'I should check on her.'
  236. >You walked over to a window you know looked into the main room, where you left her on the couch.
  237. >She isn't there anymore.
  238. 'Which is good?'
  239. >You slinked around the rest of the treebrary, peaking into each window.
  240. >You're greeted with vacancy each time.
  241. 'She's probably on the second floor.'
  242. >Feeling it a little beyond yourself to enter Twilight's home without knocking in a circumstance like this, you walk back around to the front and rap the door.
  243. >No answer.
  244. >You knock once more just to be sure.
  245. >Nothing.
  246. >You didn't feel good about this, but what could you do?
  247. >Retiring for the night seemed like the best idea.
  248. >You'd wake up early and see her first thing in the morning.
  249. >Dread washed over you as you resolved that.
  250. 'What's she gonna say?'
  251. >The question stuck with you 'till you fought your way to sleep.
  252.
  253. >Morning light penetrates your eyelids.
  254. >But you don't feel like waking up.
  255. >So you perform the time honored tradition of attempting to spread that last little bit of sleep as far as possible.
  256. >You can't start the day if you're still asleep, everyone knows that.
  257. 'They just didn't specify how asleep.'
  258. >Who's they?
  259. 'Who cares.'
  260. >After about maybe forty minutes of rolling around in bed and pretending to be asleep, you let out a sigh and open your eyes.
  261. >Though you'd like to, you can't sleep all day.
  262. >Primarily because your body won't let you, but y'know, also 'cause it's wrong or whatever.
  263. >All there is to do in your house is get dressed and use the bathroom.
  264. >You'll have to go to Twi's to get food, and to get work.
  265. >She typically has some kind of work to pay you for.
  266. >You were never the manual labor type, so although Applejack was willing to pay you for work you felt like more of a hindrance than anything.
  267. >Hopefully doing odd-jobs for Twilight will eventually end up converting into royal assistant or something like that.
  268. >Servile stuff sounded like it'd suck dick, but you weren't really too sure of what kind of careers they had in a pre-industrial society, or how you could get one for yourself.
  269. >For the time being you just want to get your feet on the ground.
  270. >You leave your little shed-house and walk over to the Golden Oaks back door.
  271. >Doesn't look like anyone's inside, at least if they are they aren't visible from the back door window.
  272. >You crack it open and survey the kitchen, figuring that since you didn't have to knock any other morning this one isn't any different.
  273. >Well, more like that'll be your excuse if Twilight's dead-on-the-inside mood converted into an anger mood overnight.
  274. >You open it the rest of the way and step into the kitchen.
  275. 'It's quiet. Too quiet'
  276. >There's something amiss.
  277. >It feels as though some ambient sound that's typically there isn't.
  278. >You walk through the dining room and into the foyer/main library.
  279. >No one there.
  280. >Your animal instincts say bad.
  281. >The fireplace is cold, no leftover coals or ash, she didn't use it last night.
  282. >You poke your head into her office and find it vacant.
  283. 'Well, one last place to look..'
  284. >Walking up the stairs you hope to find Twilight there, preferably alive and happy.
  285. >What would you even do if she was dead? You'd end up homeless at least, maybe get convicted for her murder.
  286. 'Who knows what kind of classist laws they have in this country? Giving a noble motive to kill herself might get my ass outlawed.'
  287. >You creep up the stairs, until finally just your eyes and the crown of your head poke above the second floor.
  288. >And see Twilight, and exactly the way you want her to be.
  289. >Relaxing on her bed, horse-sit position, reading a book with a light look on her face.
  290. >Relief swells through your body.
  291. >In a few steps and a hop you climb most of the stairs left and vault the railing for her room.
  292. "How y'doin' Twilight? Feeling okay?"
  293. >She smiles, closing her eyes.
  294. >They're dark, bags hang under them.
  295. "What do you mean Anon? I feel fine."
  296. 'Oh fuck.'
  297. >She spoke like the words fell out of her brain, no cadence or personality besides generally happy.
  298. "I..."
  299. You search for the right words.
  300. "I was just wondering how you were feeling this morning, y'know. If you were doing okay. What amount of okay you were feeling, uh, generally."
  301. She giggles.
  302. "Oh Anon I do so cherish how you care for me. It fills me with such a nice warm feeling to know that someone would concern themselves with my well being. Especially if it is your concern."
  303. 'Oh absolute god damn it.'
  304. >It was almost hard to understand her, her words were that of a pleased robot's.
  305. "Did you, uhh, sleep last night?"
  306. "No."
  307. "Alright that's goo- wait, no?"
  308. "No I did not sleep."
  309. "Why not?"
  310. "Because I did not get tired."
  311. "What did you do?"
  312. "Read and think."
  313. "Read and think about what?"
  314. >You were preemptively cringing for the answer.
  315. "I read about romance, and I thought about you and Rainbow Dash."
  316. "Oh."
  317. >You couldn't think of an appropriate response.
  318. >You could already surmise what kind of thoughts she was thinking about you and Rainbow Dash.
  319. 'And she was reading a romance novel to comfort herself.'
  320. >You've both just been making eye contact for seconds now.
  321. "Well... It's not good to lose out on sleep, y'know, mayb-
  322. "Yes, I do know that."
  323. >It's been a long time since you were this kind of uncomfortable.
  324. >A whole half a day at least.
  325. >That's about how long it'd been since the incident yesterday.
  326. >"So maybe you should just sleep today and I'll take care of library stuff."
  327. >"Oh Anon, so considerate of you. I'd love for you to do me that favor."
  328. >"...yeah. I'm just gonna... go eat."
  329. >She begins to stand.
  330. "No! No, don't get up, I'll handle it myself, thanks."
  331. >You make your way outta there like a bat out of a thanksgiving dinner with inlaws wishes he could.
  332. >A toasted BLT-with-no-B and Yogurt with granola suffices as breakfast, and you make some for Twilight as well.
  333. >After you plate hers, you turn to leave the kitchen only to see her standing there.
  334. >You jump in shock, though you don't know if it was to the degree that she could see.
  335. "Anon?"
  336. "Yeah?"
  337. "Do you know how dashing it is to patronize someone to such an extent?"
  338. "Is it... not very?"
  339. >She smiles and shakes her head, looking down.
  340. "Oh Anon."
  341. >Twilight uses her magic to grab your jacket sleeve, pulling you to the couch in front of the fire.
  342. >You just kind of awkwardly follow along, yogurt and sandwiches in either hand.
  343. >She leads you to just in front of the couch, then lightly topples you backwards with a magical shove, catching you with a magical blanket that sits you down into the crook of the couch.
  344. >She then retrieves one of the sandwiches from the plate and lies against your arm.
  345. >You both eat in silence.
  346. >Her's in contentment, your's is most aptly described as "nothing's collapsing or breaking just leave everything alone".
  347. >After a few minutes it becomes genuinely nice.
  348. >Her warmth is maximum comfy.
  349. >Once breakfast is over, she magi-grabs the plate and bowl from your hand, moving them into the kitchen and into the sink.
  350. >Her deftness with magic is ever surprising, most ponies have a hard time using magic on things they can't see.
  351. >She turns her head into you and takes a deep breath.
  352. "Didn't you say you were going to catch up on sleep?"
  353. >A moment passes before she makes a small groan and leans away from you.
  354. >Her horn glows, and she magi-unbuttons your jacket.
  355. >She then spreads it open, pulls one of your arms out and lifts it, tucks herself into your armpit, wraps your arm around her, and buttons the bottom three buttons on your jacket.
  356. >Anon and Twilight have now Voltronned into the mighty cuddle-beast.
  357. >Cuddle-beast not insofar that it is a beast that cuddles, but that it is a beast made of cuddles.
  358. "What about running the library? What'm I supposed to do if someone walks in?"
  359. *horn glow*
  360. *click*
  361. 'Welp.'
  362. >Not in the least bit tired because of your antics this morning, you just sit.
  363. >It's not bad, not in the slightest.
  364. >A little boring, though.
  365. >Twilight falls asleep in a matter of minutes, and with your arm trapped inside your jacket, all you can do is grab the nearest book and read it.
  366.
  367. 'Get a load of this nerd.'
  368. >Not only is it /another/ romance novel, but it even has notes taken throughout the margins.
  369. >You quickly abandon trying to actually read it in lieu of examining her additions to the text.
  370. >They follow a rather intuitive, yet clearly scholarly set of rules.
  371. >Text will be highlighted with a color highlighter(you've seen 4 different colors so far), and at the bottom there will be a note taken about the except, a colored bullet point indicates which text the note is about.
  372. >The different highlighter colors likely correspond to a different category of example rather than indicate numerical progression, a la *, †, ‡; given that some pages will have multiple of the same color.
  373. >Purple seems to correspond to actions the protagonist takes, yellow to impediments, green to the ways the mare feels, and you can't make heads or tails of red.
  374. >Honestly you can't perfectly understand any of it.
  375. >A part where the protagonist stallion recounts the crimes of some other stallion that calls himself duke before the public court is all highlighted in purple with a note at the bottom that says ''Clear verbal assertion of values and goals is likely to be met with disregard, yet remains important as a method of impression.''
  376. >But when the protagonist stallion stabs and kills the duke there isn't anything.
  377. >Could it be that Twilight only found it useful to highlight each concept the first time it appears?
  378. >No, it can't be that because at the very beginning of the book essentially the same note is taken when the stallion declares his love of the mare to her father at a ball.
  379. >You wonder if for some reason she found it important to highlight only actions taken in public, but a few chapters later a segment where the stallion details to the slaver that's captured the mare how he'll be killed the same not is taken, again.
  380. >The slaver kill deceleration breaks the public announcement rule because it happens in his quarters, which are described as small and dirty, with a missing floorboard that leads into the cargo area.
  381.
  382. >All you really know is that Twilight has read this book, Twilight has found it worth dissection, and that it's hard to read a book with one hand.
  383. >Your other one, is currently clutched to Twilight's upper barrel, wrapped the long way around her head and under her left fore-leg, pinned over her heart with her opposite hoof.
  384. >You've entertained yourself with her notes for about an hour now, but you've grown tired of it, and the novel itself doesn't seem that interesting.
  385. 'Escape operation - Commence!'
  386. >Extraction of your arm is a bust, the instant you pull your hand even a little Twilight groans and clutches it harder.
  387. >It's funny a few times, but then her groans take on a much more agitated tone and you wonder if she'll bite you.
  388. >Waking Twilight up surely doesn't seem like a good idea.
  389. 'Escape operation - Fail!'
  390. >But wait, what if you took her with you?
  391. >She's certainly light enough to carry with one hand, but the odd positioning of your arm on her upper barrel meant you wouldn't be able to lift her that way.
  392. >It looks like the only answer will be to slide her onto your lap and then lift her that way.
  393. >You first pull your free arm through it's jacket sleeve by pinning the arm hole with your leg to keep it in place.
  394. >Then you shimmy it in between your leg and hers, before sliding it underneath her thigh.
  395. >With consistent gentle force, you lightly slide-lift her over your thigh onto your lap.
  396. >A moment of silence passes, and then you hear a long inhale from within your jacket.
  397. >Twilight goes crazy.
  398. >Crazy for being asleep that is.
  399. >She immediately begins writhing in a circular fashion, rubbing her muzzle into your chest, and her side into your stomach.
  400. >More importantly she begins to stimulate a lower area with her generous plot, forcefully grinding it down onto you.
  401. >Your panic is directly proportional to your stiffness, and you stand up out of fear.
  402.
  403. >Well, you're up.
  404. >You didn't really think of anything to do past this point, but at least now you have all the freedom afforded by a pair of legs.
  405. >Not arms though, seeing as how both of yours are trapped in your jacket, supporting a sleeping Sparkle.
  406. >Look around the treebrary reveals nothing of entertainment for an armless Anon.
  407. >Maybe you could take a walk around the garden?
  408. >Twilight seems to be sleeping pretty heavily, so long as you don't go anywhere too loud, she probably won't wake up.
  409. >Opening the back door proves a challenge, but you manage it with some awkward kicks at the handle.
  410. >You take a few tentative steps out into the sun, and Twilight's lack of movement proves you right.
  411. >It's just become fall, chilly enough that you can wear a jacket without it getting too hot.
  412. >Unfortunately you've got a little lump of sleepy heat with you, so the trek proves to be a little too warm, but it's bearable.
  413. >Looking over towards the fountain, you notice a few geese bathing in it, which reminds you of a piece of trivia about the garden Twilight once told you.
  414. >Each garden exit besides the front one points directly at one of the elements of harmony's home.
  415. >Except for dash that is, seeing as how she lives in a cloud.
  416. >You know for a fact at least one leads directly to Fluttershy's cottage, you'd followed the geese there once.
  417. >The path wasn't walled off from the outside world or paved with cobblestone, but somehow, even though it went directly through a market, you could tell exactly where the path was and was going to be, like a sixth sense.
  418. >Which probably explains why these geese haven't left for the winter, from Fluttershy's babying to Twilight's fountain they've got it made.
  419.
  420. >With the day off(presumably) and nothing to do, you decide to follow one of the other walkways.
  421. >You choose one that doesn't look like it'll pass through any markets or town hubs and begin walking down it.
  422. >It's gate has a few blue gemstone one it which remind you of that one white pony, but you can't think of her name.
  423. >You don't know too many ponies, Twilight was insistent that it'd be a senseless action, ''you'll only be here a short time'' was her reasoning.
  424. >Other than Rainbow Dash, you only concretely knew a few ponies names.
  425. >The path takes you to the edges of town, through ponyville's version of an arts district.
  426. >Not so much of a place to go see and appreciate art, but more like where all the artsy kinda stores were.
  427. >A building reminiscent of a layer cake is where the path leads, and you realize once more that you didn't plan anything.
  428. >You don't really have a reason to bother white pony so there's no sense in knocking on her door.
  429. >Eventually, you decide just to look around town.
  430. >It seems quiet enough around here, and you aren't super intimate with the place.
  431. >You pass by antique stores and glass blowers, florists and a toy store.
  432. >All in all a very nice place, colorful and stylized like a medieval carnival.
  433. >Your peeking into a hatters when you hear a dainty voice call out behind you
  434. "Excuse me, oh excuse me!"
  435. >You turn to see the commotion and find that marshmallow white pony you were thinking about earlier.
  436. >Her speedy canter slows to a trot as she nears you, before she stops and takes a horse-bow: shifting her torso backwards and angling herself towards the ground.
  437. "Lady Rarity, dearie, how do you do?"
  438.
  439. "Fine thanks, I'm Anon."
  440. >Hands full all you can do is give a slight bend at the waist.
  441. >She titters, covering her mouth.
  442. >Her laughter is brought to an end once she sees your bulging jacket.
  443. "Oh! Is that a human fashion?"
  444. >It takes you a moment before you remember how strange this must look to someone not privy to this morning.
  445. "No no, I'm uh, well it's a long story--"
  446. "Perfect! Tell it to me over a cup of tea, I insist"
  447. >It's a short walk back to Rarity's, her idle chat along the way reveals that it's called the Carousel Boutique and it serves as both her house and her place of business.
  448. >She sits you down in her nice kitchen.
  449. >The chair and table is just large enough that you can sit comfortably.
  450. >And the tea's good too!
  451. "Now, tell me all about /that/."
  452. >She gestures towards you with a hoof.
  453. "Well, this morning when"--
  454. >You relay the mornings events to her.
  455. "oooOOOOHHH that is /just/ DARLING!"
  456. >Her excitement manifests via her magic, lightly shaking the table and all that's on it, producing a series of *clink*s from the china.
  457. "Oh /puh-lease/ Anonymous, may I see her?"
  458. >She begins to telekinetically lift your jacket midway through your affirmation, cutting you off.
  459. >The slumbering sparkle is revealed, still clinging to your left arm while you keep her aloft with your right.
  460. >Rarity nearly vibrates in her chair, all the while repeating phrases like ''my goodness'' and 'oh my word''.
  461. >After a minute of elation, she finally magics the jacket back onto you, concealing Twilight from the world once more.
  462. >Rarity is nearly glowing, you wonder if she has some kind of bizarre fetish.
  463. "Oh I do just /lll-ove/ it when I get to watch love bloom."
  464. "Wait no we aren't--"
  465. "Mmmohoho Anonymous, a timid romantic?"
  466. "No listen I'm no--"
  467. "Ahhh well, 'tis a powerful feeling, new love"
  468. "Rarity, listen to me--"
  469. "I remember when Twilight first came to me for advice about her feelings."
  470.
  471. "What? When was that?"
  472. "Oh some months ago, shortly after your arrived. Why?"
  473. >What the fuck, Shortly after you arrived!?
  474. "Nothing, just curious. What did she say?"
  475. >Rarity blushes and pulls her hoof over her face.
  476. "It is rather indecent of you to ask a lady to reveal her secrets you know."
  477. >She leans over towards you and begins batting her eyes.
  478. "But, if it be in the name of love I suppose some rrroguery is in order."
  479. >The r in roguery rolls off of her tongue like a pine-cone full of bees.
  480. "Well, Twilight first came in and attempted to bat around the issue in a subtle way, failing horridly of course, you know how she will: 'I have a friend this' and 'let's suppose' that. Finally her charade came clear and she asked for advice on what her feelings meant, naturally I was all too happy to oblige, only she wouldn't take my word and /scrutinized/ every little thing I said."
  481. "Yeah? So what'd you do?"
  482. "Well she kept badgering me- asking for notes and the like, so as something of a joke I gave her one of my romance novels and told her that she could study from that"
  483. >!
  484. >Your accidental sleuthing is paying off in spades, Anon.
  485. "How many did you give her?"
  486. "Just the one, why?
  487. "... no reason."
  488. >Revelations and implications cloud your mind like cogs cloud a clock.
  489. >The topic of conversation drifts away from the inception of Twilight and your "relationship" and towards other idle things.
  490. >You and Rarity talk for a few minutes more before you feel more interested in reviewing what you've learned than visiting a new friend.
  491. "It was nice meeting you Rarity, I think I'm gonna go ahead and take Twilight home, y'know, put her to bed in her own bed."
  492. "Oh so soon? I suppose I better get back to work as well, this was a nice lunch though, dear, do visit again"
  493. >You reply a "Sure thing" on your way to the door, then begin tracing the trail back to Twi's.
  494. >Your mind wanders as you make your way home on autopilot
  495.
  496. >So it was Rarity that got Twilight interested in romance novels.
  497. >Twilight likely didn't realize the inherent absurdity of reading borderline fanfiction as an instruction manual, so she took Rarity seriously.
  498. >But what would drive her to study so meticulously? And why would she buy so many novels? That is, assuming those romance novels by her bed were also studied and filled with notes.
  499. >Maybe Twilight talked to her other friends about her feelings towards you.
  500. >It would be worth it at least to ask around, there's no harm that could come of it.
  501. >There must be a cause, right?
  502. >Why would Twilight be interested in you? You can't fathom what she would be interested in.
  503. >You make a note to ask Rainbow the next time you see her, and wonder if you should go out and ask one of Twi's friends today, before remembering that the part about putting Twilight in her own bed was a lie.
  504. >Her grip hasn't loosened in the slightest, though you're supporting the bulk of her weight yourself her hooves pin her to you like a paper clip.
  505. >You don't feel like carrying her across town again, so you decide to call it an early day.
  506. >You'll check with one of the other elements of harmony first thing tomorrow.
  507. >Unless you have work, then it'll be second thing.
  508. >Of course if Twilight needs you to do any chores after work then it'll be third thing.
  509. >Well by technicality any favors she asks for are work, seeing as how she typically pays you to do them, so it'll be second category of things you do tomorrow, but not the second actual task you achieve.
  510. >Point is it'll get done.
  511. >You enter the garden.
  512. >It's early afternoon, around 4 to 5 or so hours since Twilight fell asleep.
  513. >A passing thought wonders how she'll sleep tonight.
  514. >You putz around the garden for a little bit, admiring the always perfect bushes and flowers.
  515.
  516. >Twilight must have used a spell for them to be so consistently good looking, she's never asked you to trim or weed and you've never seen anyone else doing it either.
  517. >While lazily inspecting the flowerbeds you take a moment to reflect upon the most interesting thing about gardening.
  518. 'Oh yeah, nothing.'
  519. >You quickly grow bored with the foliage and meander your way inside.
  520. >Well, you've got time to kill before Twi wakes up, and there's right about one thing to do in a library.
  521. >An idea!
  522. >You could read Twilight's diary and find out what exactly she thinks of you.
  523. >Actually, that sounds a little invasive.
  524. >Maybe you could just look around her room for clues?
  525. >Y'know, plain view doctrine and all that.
  526. >Besides, it's not like you aren't justified in being in there.
  527. >Where else should you take a sleeping Twilight other than a Twilight's bedroom?
  528. >You ascend the staircase and take a good look around Twilight's.
  529. >You've never inspected her room in depth like this before, you mostly spend your time downstairs.
  530. >It's decorated how you would expect, aside from books, scrolls, and various science instruments the only decorations are various nick-nacks she probably received as gifts.
  531. >Her purple bed is littered with the romance novels she was reading this morning, and at a cursory glance it looks like she's written notes within them as well.
  532. >You take a seat at the end of her bed and look around for anything that might have something to do with her fascination with you.
  533. >Nothing obvious, just a normal nerdy--
  534. >Wait a second! What's that poster on the wall concealing?
  535. >Oh, it was nothing.
  536. >Just wall.
  537. >But how about this science manual?!
  538. >Hmm. Looks like science.
  539. >With a mental exclamation of 'Well fuck it' you find her diary from under her bed and crack it open.
  540.
  541. >Naturally, her entries are dated to the hour, and include some kind of description of the position of the stars.
  542. >You haven't been keeping track of the date since you arrived, seeing as how your work was generally most days of the week and 30 feet away, so you have to navigate based on shared experiences and mentions of you.
  543. >You start in the middle, figuring that your appearance will be closer to there than the beginning, and jump forward by clumps of pages.
  544. >Something about a problem with a pony named Trixie.
  545. >Something about a problem with a griffin named Gilda.
  546. >Something about a problem with two ponies named Flim & Flam.
  547. >You're sensing a pattern here.
  548. >Aha! An entry about you.
  549. >It's about the first time you ate in public.
  550. >D'awww, the way she writes you can tell she was excited, her normally neat handwriting- err, hornwriting? is jagged and sloppy.
  551. 'Oh Celestia, diary, his confusion when the waiter said they didn't serve griffin food was the cutest! And the way his eyes turned down in despair as he realized that we don't eat meat! Oh diary~'
  552. >Hmm.
  553. >Is she fascinated with your alien ways?
  554. >But why would that grow into love?
  555. >You flip backwards some pages, before crawling forward,
  556. >There are entries about summoning rituals and notes about things like magical atmospheres, before you come upon one that's curiously short.
  557. 'Dear Diary,
  558. I feel as though my heart is ensnared within the clutches of a rosebush. An ache unlike any that I've known fills me with feelings of delight and panic. Today, my endeavors bear fruit.'
  559. >A dire mood comes over you.
  560. >The next pages deal with frivolities and various domestic things, no mention of you, until you get back to the entry about you in public.
  561. >This doesn't bode well.
  562. >The clues point to Twilight having summoned you here, but why would she do so?
  563. >Did she intend on summoning you specifically?
  564. >Why wouldn't she just tell you that she'd done so? What about--
  565. "Anon"
  566.
  567. >The raw, piercing energy of a shriek is but a faint imitation of the feeling that shoots through your spine.
  568. >Your mouth hangs open with the silent ghost of a scream, and your hands grip Twilight's diary as though squeezing it would protect you.
  569. >
