  1. Him:
  2. I DL'd the server and launcher within minutes of each other but they are incompatible. See http://pastebin.com/irjYTAV8
  3.
  4.
  5. Me:
  6. Please follow these steps exactly: http://desk.feed-the-beast.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/9/0/basic-troubleshooting
  7. This is to rule out any issues with your setup.
  8. If you continue to have trouble, please post your complete client-side (launcher) console log in debug-mode to pastebin.com and link your paste URL here. This is so I can confirm you completed the steps correctly. Please provide the pastebin link, as I will not open attachments-this is a security risk for my computer.
  9. To find your logs: http://desk.feed-the-beast.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/29/1/what-log-do-you-need-where-can-i-find-it
  10. If you have already completed some variation of these steps, please just humor me and complete the steps, exactly as listed.

  14. The I followed http://desk.feed-the-beast.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/9/0/basic-troubleshooting
  15. I think I got rid of all the java ... I reactivated it following the Apple instructions. I did not also redownload it as the Apple instructions implied I didn’t need to.
  16. It’s still a problem but I investigated further. I can’t run a server for most of the modpacks. It freezes up during loading of the server (I watch the memory tick down to zero as it displays the percent of the spawn area it has loaded, and the memory runs out before it’s done) or I get the server up and then when signing onto it get a message that I can’t access it because it’s missing Railcraft. I now believe the problem is not a compatibility issue between server and client but the fact that I tried a workaround of placing the server .jar on my desktop to get it to work at all, and that just changed the way it fails.
  17. The system: Mac OS 10.8.4 with 12G Ram (I ran a test to make sure all the memory is working and it is)
  18. I turned off all memory hogging applications and downloaded Direwolf20_Server. Changed serverstart.sh to java -Xms1G -Xmx2G -jar ftbserver.jar
  19. Tried to launch it. Got the problem with the spawn area loading by percents and the memory use going down, down, down to zero, where everything stops.
  20. I can run and connect to a plain vanilla Minecraft server. I can run and connect to a Feed the Beast Beta Pack A (v12) Minecraft version 1.4.2, although while playing wI get lots of messages about not being able to keep up and with two people on there are disconnects.
  21. I tried disabling several of the mods within Direwolf and that didn’t help.
  22. Here are logs for what happens when I tried Magic World. The Direwolf logs went on for 173 pages but this was brief so I just did cut and paste.

  28. Me:
  29. Put your log on pastebin.com and link it, as I asked.
  30. If you put your log directly in your ticket, I remove it, because it makes your ticket difficult to navigate.

  33. Him:
  34. Pastebin ID: 9ySswCEA
  35. Two attempts to load the server, first with the preset ServerStart.sh and FTB launcher also running, and the second with FTB launcher turned off and the suggested change to ServerStart.sh made. Here are the server log, the console for the time period, and ForgeModLoader-server.log for just the second attempt.

  38. Me:
  39. When you are asked to link a log, please LINK the log. There is a lot of room for error when you only provide the paste ID. Also, put each log in their own paste. Putting multiple logs in a paste defeats the purpose of using pastebin.
  40. Lastly, please go through my troubleshooting steps again. Then provide only your client log. After that we can move on to getting a working server on your system, but first I have to make sure everything else it right.
  41. You've created more work for yourself by trying all of the aforementioned things. Please just follow my steps. Any additional steps will be completed when they are necessary.

  44. Him:
  45. I spent four years doing software service and training other people how to do it. This is a textbook case of how not to do it.
  46. Your game doesn't work. I gave you the info I have to fix it. It really isn't my problem. I have other things to do. "That is my response."
  47.
  48.
  49. Me:
  50. Ok. If you are unwilling to complete just what I ask you to complete, then provide only what I ask you to provide, then I am not going to help you.
  51. I will surrender your ticket, and you will be put back in line with the remainder of the unassigned tickets. The other staffers will answer yours at their leisure, as no one else is consistently on the desk but myself.
