- Secret of Evermore
- Platform: Snes
- Released:
- 01.10.1995 (NA)
- 22.02.1996 (PAL)
- Based on: PAL-version (SNSP-AEOP)
- - The game does not track your play time. Consider tracking it manually.
- - The number of items you receive from hidden item spots can sometimes vary.
- - Dropped items are determined by the location, not the enemy. Most enemies
- have a drop rate of 1/16.
- - When moving in hidden passages (there are quite a few of them in this game),
- you can check your location by opening the ring menu.
- - If the Boy dies, it's game over.
- - Attacking at full power requires a full ATB charge. An ATB charge requires
- 1024 points. Each subject has an ATB rate that determines how many points
- they generate each frame. The PCs have ATB rates of 10. Enemies' mostly
- fall between 5-20.
- - ATB charge time in frames / seconds:
- ATB f NTSC PAL
- 5 | 205 | 3,42s | 4,1s |
- 8 | 128 | 2,13s | 2,56s | NTSC: 60 fps
- 10 | 103 | 1,72s | 2,06s | PAL: 50 fps
- 12 | 86 | 1,43s | 1,72s |
- 15 | 69 | 1,15s | 1,38s |
- 20 | 52 | 0,87s | 1,04s |
- - Stats:
- Str | Base ATP (Attack Power)
- Con | Base DFP (Defense Power)
- MDF | Base MDF (Magic Defense)
- Eva | Base Evade
- Hit | Base Hit
- - Stat gain per level:
- HP Str Con MDF Eva Hit
- Boy | 9 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0,5 | 0,5 |
- Dog | 9 | 4 | 6 | 1 | 0,5 | 0,5 |
- - Base physical damage is ATP - target DFP/4. Random variation is +/-25%.
- Enemy DFP values have already been divided by 4.
- - Your characters exhibit hitstun even when damage received is 0.
- - Weapons only have two charge attacks that are unlocked by leveling them
- up. Each weapon has its own level, so if you get a new sword, it'll start
- off at Lv0 regardless of how much you've used the previous swords. Each
- level requires 256 SP. The Boy gets 4 SP per kill at Lv0, 2 SP at Lv1. The
- Dog gets 2 SP per kill. Only the last character to deal damage to an enemy
- receives SP from killing it. The menu doesn't show actual SP values but
- rather percentage figures.
- - The Lv1 charge attack gives you double power. Lv2 gives you quad power.
- Each charge takes 146 frames (2,43s in NTSC; 2,92s in PAL) (1024 points at
- 7 ATB).
- - You move at normal speed while charging.
- - You can't push enemies or NPCs.
- - Healing items:
- Petal | 40 HP
- Nectar | 120 HP
- Honey | 300 HP
- Biscuit | Revive Dog with 100 HP
- Essence | Heal status

- - In the village, you'll meet Elizabeth aka Fire Eyes, who gives you your
- first Alchemy formula (magic, basically). Just like in SoM, I try to use
- as little magic as possible, at least outside of the bosses.
- - Alchemy ingredients are indeed hidden all over the place everywhere,
- but they really don't amount to much, making shops a far superior source.
- Unless you have compulsive tendencies, you can just ignore the hidden stuff.
- - The Ash found in the bonfire in front of Elizabeth's hut is an unusual
- case, as it respawns (there's one other hidden item that does that, but
- it's not an ingredient). It only takes about 12 seconds to respawn, but
- you need to refresh the area (ie. leave, then re-enter) to trigger it.
- - If you killed the Raptors, you can get a Grass Vest from a guy in one
- of the huts.
- - Don't buy a Leather Collar. You can get one for free after Bugmuck.
- The Dog's Constitution is much higher, so it'll manage.
- - The Biscuits would be replaced with Call Beads after the boss. These
- containers are in Fire Eyes' hut and the hidden side area.

- Boss: Thraxx (heart, left claw, right claw)
- - You may have trouble hitting the Tar Skulls. Aim at the head.
- - The first area inside Thraxx's lair features several paths that crumble
- when taken. Some crumble as soon as you approach them, others allow you
- to cross a couple of times at least in one direction. See the rough map
- below. It's possible to permanently miss some of the hidden items, but
- it's no big deal.
- - You'll fight the boss after the second, much simpler, area.

- - Claws: 250 HP, 8 DFP, 17 ATP, 30 ATB, 250 Exp, 150 T each
- - This is a tough boss. It'll cast Acid Rain every minute. It deals
- 40-50 pod, which will be split between the two of you as long as the
- Dog stays alive. The heart is protected by the rib cage, which takes
- a few hits to open. There will be Maggots after you at all times. If
- you can't deal damage fast enough, Acid Rain will eventually kill you
- as you run out of healing items.
- - You don't have to take out the claws, but then you'll miss out on
- the xp. If you haven't built up, you probably can't afford to waste
- time on them.
- - You'll receive 300 T if you don't have space for the reagents.

- - Go save the game at the tavern right away.
- - Spend some time getting familiar with the market, then reset. Some goods
- have more than one source, but you'll want to go with the ones who give
- you the best deal.
- - You have about 17 minutes (15 in NTSC) before the market (temporarily)
- closes and you have no choice but to proceed with the story. Some of the
- items you find in the Colosseum will change if you've already obtained
- certain items from the market. Specifically, you'll want to have the four
- pieces of armor mentioned above before time runs out. You shouldn't have
- any trouble with that. You can use the spare time to score some charms.
- You can pick up whatever is left after the Colosseum.
- - You have to go through the warehouse emporium to get the Jeweled Scarabs
- and Limestone Tablets. Pick up Atlas and some Honey on your way.
- - Once you have the Stone Vest, talk to the doomsayer repeatedly until
- you get some choices. Hit Cancel and you should get the Centurion Cape.
- - *: It claims to take 15 rice but it's actually 8. Don't haggle it
- further than that or he'll refuse to do business with you.
- - Normally, you'd have to buy a huge load of beads to get everything,

- Bosses: Alchemy:
- 2× Face Magmar Energize
- Dark Toaster Carltron's Robot
- - Energize allows you to use charge attacks incredibly fast. You don't
- even have to hold down Attack. It lasts for 72 seconds (60 in NTSC). The
- spell uses 1 Iron and 1 Crystal.
- - If you want levels, go for the Rimsalas. Hit them with a normal attack
- just as the damage numbers from the Dog's charge attack are popping up.
- Respawn the Sphere Bots (if needed) so it can't get too far away from
- you. You can get 100k in 9 minutes.
- - You can now reach the final boss from the junkyard. There's also the
- optional boss you can reach from D3. The door that says 'lock' can be
- opened with a random code. The door will close if you leave the station
- or save and quit
- [Boss: 2× Face]
- - 4000 HP, 4000 Exp, 200 DFP, 2000 C each, 30× Particle Bomb
- - They'll periodically spam you with Flash. If you don't have more than
- 400 HP, you should level up first.
- [Boss: Final Battle]
- - After taking out the Fans and Speakers, examine the spots where they
- used to be.
- - For every Mechaduster you kill, a Death Spider will start appearing after
- each round. A fairly tough enemy (6000 HP, 100 DFP, 325 ATP, 30 ATB), so
- I'd advise against it. You've already got your hands full.
- - After taking out Dark Toaster (10 000 HP, 60 DFP, 175 ATP, 10 ATB) and
- the monitors explode, you can move out of bounds in the top left corner
- when the wall comes down. If you go too far in there as soon as possible,
- you'll end up stuck.
- - You can also get a crash when fighting Magmar. Not sure what triggers
- it, but it seems to have something to do with opening the ring menu just
- as he uses his Crush spell. The spell occurs even though you have the menu
- open, and then things just fall apart.
- - You need to interrupt Magmar's regeneration. Otherwise, the battle will
- go on forever (25 000 HP, 90 DFP, 170 ATP).
- - Carltron's Robot (30 000 HP, 90 DFP, 220 ATP) does ab. 100 pod per hit.
- End of file.
