  52.
  53. ㅡ PERSONALITY:
  54.
  55. + OPTIMISTIC, OPEN MINDED | halley likes to think of herself as person with her glass half full, as she’s extremely optimistic. she doesn’t want to dwell on the negatives in life, because she is grateful for everything she has. unlike most other people, she has an alternate reality locked up in the back of her mind, one where she could have been passed from foster home to foster home with horrible parents, had she not been adopted by her parents. because of this, she doesn’t often take things for granted, and it’s the reason that she always likes to stay optimistic. she’s been lucky enough to have such a happy childhood, and she’s sure that there’s always got to be a positive aspect of every situation. halley is someone that you can always rely on to find the bright side of a situation, even if it means dwelling over it for hours on end. she’s so optimistic that it is endearing, because she never, ever, gives in, and still finds something to be happy about. she’s also very open minded person, in the fact that she’s never quick to judge people. she’s the type of person to give people countless chances, even after they’ve done bad things, because she believes that there’s good in everybody. however, this is one of the maid reasons why she’s so easy to take advantage of, because she refuses to look at people’s flaws, and instead tends to focus on their positive personality traits instead, even if they’re heavily outweighed. she’s also always up for trying new things, no matter how scary or disgusting they may be. maybe it comes along with her optimism, but halley doesn’t like to rule things out until she’s tried them, making her more adventurous than most people, but she’s not reckless. she knows where the line is and how to draw, to make sure that she’s safe at all times.
  56.
  57. + CHEERFUL, EXTROVERTED | another thing that can be said about halley martin is that she is extremely cheerful. like seriously. it’s honestly almost overbearing. halley is the type of person who is always happy no matter what. it’s probably because she doesn’t dwell on the negatives of life, so she has more happy things to think about, but halley martin is never seen with anything other than a smile on her face. some people find it almost terrifying, because surely she must have a limit, a line that no one should cross. except, well, no one’s ever crossed it before, so no one is entirely sure where that line is, or how to go about it. halley can be relied upon to wear a smile 24/7, no matter what the circumstances, and she’s always a friendly face to spot in the crowd. she once read somewhere that seeing other people smile actually makes people feel better, and since then she’s made it her own personal goal to make other people as happy as she can by smiling. she’s also a very extroverted person. her cheerful and friendly nature makes it easy for her to talk to people and make friends really quickly. she’s definitely far more extroverted than she is introverted, and has no problems talking to people she’s not close with, or doesn’t know very well, even with a language barrier. however, on the downside, halley tends to be really happy all the time because she’s not good at showing other emotions. she doesn’t really like showing other people when she’s sad or angry, and instead tends to bottle them up for a really long time until she snaps and it all comes out again. she really tries to keep her feelings from spilling over the edge, but because she’s always buried them down, it always gets to a point where she can’t hold them back anymore. maybe all halley really needs is someone to tell her that it’s okay to not always be happy.
  58.
  59. + ACTIVE, ENERGETIC | halley is also a very, very, very energetic person. she’s a bit like a child on a constant sugar high, with the amount of energy she seems to always have. no one knows where she gets all this energy from, because it could be two o’clock in the morning, and she’ll still be bouncing off the walls, talking a mile a minute, enough to make bystanders dizzy. she just always has energy, and no one knows where she gets it from. she was a bit of a nightmare to deal with as a child, because she often refused to go to bed, because she was far too excited and energetic to even think about sleeping – a problem she still has today. halley’s never liked sleeping, simply because she thinks it’s a waste of time that could have been spent doing something productive, instead of, well, sleeping. plus, it always seems to take a lot to wear her out, because she could go an run a lap or two around an oval and still have energy left over. she’s constantly buzzing off the walls of the cabin, and swaying on her feet, because she absolutely cannot sit still for more than five seconds straight before she starts fidgeting. it’s probably best to keep her away from caffeine. she’s always been an active person, even as a kid. when she was younger, her parents signed her up for all the different sports offered in the community, and she did quite a few of them for a couple of years, before she ultimately stuck with ice skating, the one she loved more than anything else. she still likes other sports, and is more than happy to participate in them for fun, but she’s never gone back to do anything competitively other than ice skating. she’s also mildly scared of straining any muscles or anything in other sports, incase it puts her out of training for a long time.

  60.
  61. + HARD-WORKING, DETERMINED | with her love for ice skating comes her hard working nautre. when people look at halley, they see a little girl with her head up in the clouds, surrounded by her little optimistic bubble. they don’t often realise just how hardworking she can be, especially when it comes to ice skating. she always sees things through, and doesn’t leave anything unfinished, and ice skating is no exception. she spends most of her waking hours outside of school at the local ice rink, training and learning new stunts. her classmates never see the effort that goes into her training behind the scenes, as they only see the pretty image of the final product. they don’t know the blood, sweat and tears that she puts into every minute of her training, to get to be the best she can be. and because she’s spent years doing this, she’s become very hardworking in most things. even if sometimes her hard work doesn’t pay off (like her school work, as she never seems to get really good grades, even when she studies her backside off). her parents didn’t raise her to be a quitter, and halley doesn’t intend to become one. just because she doesn’t always do well, doesn’t mean she’s not trying. halley may be many things, but a slacker is definitely not one of them, and you can bet that halley will prove you wrong if you delusional enough to think this. she’s also a very determined person. once she sets her mind on something, nothing can stop her from achieving it. even if it’s hopeless or completely out of her reach. halley does not give up, and she will continue trying to find a way to get to her final destination eventually, no matter how long it will take her.
  62.
  63. + STUBBORN, INNOCENT | stubborn is another word that can be used to describe halley, which is surprising, knowing how determined she can be. halley doesn’t like being wrong, or losing, and it shows through her stubborn nautre. she doesn’t like to back down for anything, even if she knows she’ll lose, and will just keep going and going, even if the odds aren’t in her favour. being stubborn can be both a positive and a negative aspect of her personality, because while it means that she always stands her ground, it can also get her into trouble sometimes, and give off bad impressions to people, even when she doesn’t mean it. but halley is very stubborn, and once she’s decided on something, there’s not changing her mind, no matter how hard you try. despite all this, she’s also very innocent, in a way that makes people want to protect her. she’s not exactly the best at noticing sexual jokes, or anything with a hidden meaning, and most of them tend to fly over her head, making her seem really innocent. which is kind of true, but to be honest, valley’s just really slow, and is the type of person to understand it five minutes later, and then blush and freak out because of how flustered she gets. it’s endearing, but also kind of embarrassing for halley, because she’s often the only one there who’s not laughing at jokes because she doesn’t get it, or because she’s missed it entirely, and usually one of the others has to fill her in.

  65.
  66. ㅡ BACKGROUND |
  67. + family
  68. JOHNNY MARTIN | adoptive father | 43YRS
  69. ELISE MARTIN | adoptive mother | 43YRS
  70.
  71. + halley martin was born jung hyerin, in daegu, south korea, to parents who clearly were not prepared to have children. even now, at the age of seventeen, halley knows next to nothing about either of her birth parents, because she was dropped off at the local orphanage when she was only a few months old. she has no idea what the actual circumstances of her birth were – whether her parents weren’t financially stable, whether she was a complete accident, whether she was illegitimate, or whether her parents simply just didn’t want her. halley’s not sure, and she guesses that she may never know. luckily for her, she doesn’t have a horrible childhood story to tell about dark and grimy orphanages with too many children, and being passed on from foster family to foster family. instead, halley was fortunate enough to be adopted at around a year old by a young canadian couple. her adoptive parents, johnny and elise martin were high school sweethearts who managed to keep their strong and adorable relationship lasting through college, before they got married, and decided they wanted to have a family of their own. however, due to unfortunate circumstance, the pair weren’t able to have children of their own. still wanting to have a family of their own, the pair were looking at adopting a child, and had been looking at adoption agencies all around the world, eager to find a child that they felt a connection with. low and behold, they found halley in a small orphanage shortly before she turned a year old, and without even trying, she’d won the hearts of both johnny and elise. within the year, she was flown over to canada with her new family, and to this day halley is extremely thankful towards both her parents, because without them, she knows that she would not be the person she is today, and thinking about what could have happened still haunts her.
  72.
  73. + during her childhood, halley’s parents did their best to make sure that she always felt at home, and that she could rely on them like real parents, even though she was adopted. halley, of course, had no problems with this, and was never awkward around either of her parents, because as far as she was concerned, johnny and elise martin were her real parents, not the people who had birthed her and then left her in an orphanage. while halley tries not to have ill feelings towards her birth family, sometimes she just can’t help it, and she’s extremely thankful that she was lucky enough to have such a kind and caring adoptive family. halley grew up an only child, and was the centre of her parents’ love. even as a little kid, halley was known for her energetic nature, and could always be seen participating in different sports around the community – little athletics on the weekends, soccer on tuesdays, tennis on thursdays – but her ultimate favourite had to be ice skating. her mother, elise, was a former figure skater when she was younger, but had stopped before she finished high school, claiming that it took up too much of her study time. halley, however, was the total opposite. ever since she began learning how to ice skate, it seemed as if that was the only thing she ever wanted to do. she could spend hours upon hours skating around in circles until she was forced to go home. it’s no surprise that with the amount of time she spent ice skating, she quickly picked up a talent for it, and by the time she was in high school, she was winning competitions left right and centre. her goal is to go to the olympics one day, and if everything goes her way, she will make it. sometimes her parents wish she’d pay a bit more attention to her school work, but unfortunately, they have to take the blame for letting her start ice skating in the first place, and they know that given her active personality, halley’s still not likely to do well in school even if they stop her from ice skating.

  117.
  118. HOW DID YOU FIND US?
  119.
  120. ㅡ DID HER PARENTS MAKE HER GO TO THE CAMP OR DID SHE WANT TO GO?
  121. + it’s a bit of both, really. she thinks that the camp would be a good way to connect with her korean roots, but it’s a summer camp, and that’s time that halley could be spending training so she’ll be able to qualify for the olympics. her parents, however, were insistent that she go to this camp for the summer, saying that she’d have plenty of time when she came back to qualify for the olympics, and that it would be a good experience to meet other korean teenagers who grew up in other places around the world
  122.
  123. ㅡ HOW DOES SHE FEEL ABOUT BEING A KOREAN TEENAGER LIVING IN ANOTHER COUNTRY?
  124. + it never used to bother her until she started going to school and people used to comment on her appearance. it wasn't so much the fact that she was a korean teenager living in a different country, it was more the fact that she was adopted by a canadian couple, and looked nothing like them. it was only when she was younger, and the other kids would make comments about it, because they were too young to understand adoption, but usually it doesn't bother halley that much, and given that she's lived in canada for almost her entire life, toronto is more of a home to her than anywhere in seoul.
  125.
  126. ㅡ DOES SHE HAVE ANY INTEREST IN KOREAN CULTURE?
  127. + halley is actually really interested in korean culture. since she’s adopted, and doesn’t really know much about korea, she’s always been fascinated with it, because a small part of her wants to be closer to her birth parents, even if she thinks that they gave her away when she was a child. she thinks that korean culture is really interesting, from what she’s learnt so far, and she thinks that it might be the only way for her to connect with her really parents, even if she doesn’t know who they are.
  128.
  129. ㅡ CAN SHE SPEAK KOREAN?
  130. + if she's totally honest, she's not very good at korean. which is understandable, given that she's lived in canada almost her entire life, and neither of her parents spoke korean either. naturally, growing up she had an interest in learning korean, as a way to be closer to her culture and her birth parents, whoever they may be, but with everything else she had going on in her life between her ice skating and everything else, learning korean was kind of pushed to the side, so she's not nearly as fluent as she'd like to be. she hopes that the camp will be a way for her to learn to speak korean a bit better.
  131.
  132. ㅡ WHAT CLASSES WOULD SHE LIKE TO TAKE?
  133. + taekwondo
  134. + korean cuisine
  135.
  136.
  137.
  138. BE YOURSELF & HAVE FUN!
  139.
  140. ㅡ LOVE INTEREST: HWANG HYUNJIN
  141. (backup): KIM SEUNGMIN
  142.
  143. ㅡ FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
  144. + HALLEY – she thought he was really good looking, but also a bit arrogant and spoilt, from the way he held himself, with his head up high in the air and his shoulders back. she also heard him say something in french, but even though she's been learning it for a most of her schooling career, she had no idea what he said, and just looked at him, confused.
  145.
  146. + HYUNJIN – he thought that she was cute, from the way that she looked really lost, and seemed to be having a bit of trouble understanding all the korean that everyone was using. then he said she was cute in french under his breath, and freaked out when she looked up at him, as if she'd understood what he just said.
  147.
  148. ㅡ SUGGESTED SCENES WITH L/I:
  149. + him teaching her french, because she's always wanted to be better at it, since she plans to travel there one day
  150. + him using a whole load of pickup lines on her and halley either misses them completely, or looks at him confused
  151. + food fight or something in the kitchen if they both get put on kitchen duty together, and it ends up with a mess and good scolding but they're both grinning ear to ear.
  152.
  153. ㅡ FRIENDS:
  154. + SEOUL – i feel like they'd be close, since seoul has grown up in south korea, while halley's been overseas her entire life, and doesn't really know much about the korean culture. i feel like seoul would be the sort to share all her knowledge with halley, in exchange for learning about what things are like overseas. plus, halley's also really glad that seoul's always there to help her with her korean, since she's not very good at it yet.
  155.
  156. + BARCELONA – halley looks up to barcelona as an older sister figure, since she's never actually had any siblings growing up. plus, i feel like it would be in barcelona's nature to want to look after the younger sots, and halley would want someone like that around when she's in a foreign country, because despite being korean by descent, she doesn't really know much about the culture at all.
  157.
  158. ㅡ SUGGESTED SCENES WITH FRIENDS:
  159. + midnight talks where they talk about anything and everything under the sun
  160. + halley having to overcome her fear of heights, and they're all being super encouraging and comforting to make her feel safe
