The Urge

The Urge is spread out across all my selves that have the curse of multidimensional sight. The full extent of The Urge rarely shows itself, even here. It mostly manifests as that deep, dark voice in the back of your mind. You see just one or two universes of yourself being the most depraved version, and then you start to believe that it's always fated to be, even though there's so much evidence to the contrary. There are two universes I know for sure have fallen to the full extent of The Urge.

The one universe involves a child and the person he thought loved them. The person he thought was truly his Mother. Alas, his true Mother had ceased to be and this doppelganger moved in for the kill. For years, this creature cared for this child as if it were truly her own, in a way that nobody expected she was far from human.

In his late twenties, the creature finally decided to make her move. Inviting her adult son over for coffee and a chat, she laced the boy's cup with a potent drug. He took his first sip and was instantly knocked out. When he awoke, he was a strange draconic beast with nebulas in his soul, in a place unlike anything on Earth. The Mother Beast then kept him as a sort of pet and sentry, setting him loose to kill and devour any unfortunate creature that crossed her.

Eventually, after some time, the boy managed to find his way back to the world he knew. It should have been a happy occasion, but he was forever changed from his time in Arcadia. He knew the human world wasn't meant for him. After all, he may appear human again, but he knew he definitely was not. Forced into the Urge for survival and warmth, and now he can never let go.

The second universe was where the Urge is thought to have originated. Strangely, it was a rather simple scenario, that sparked this dark thought into the multiverse.

 In a fantastic world, a college student with the blood of dragons and his girlfriend go out into the woods for a simple camping trip. For the hours before nightfall, they've basically had the best time of their lives: playing guitar, singing, and basking in each other's companionship.

Night eventually fell on the young couple, and they both retreat into their tents to sleep. In the middle of the night, noises wake the student up. As he dazedly looks around, he notices that his girlfriend is not in the tent with him. Fully awake now, he rushes out of the tent to see what's occurring.

There are several men and the girl is there too, trying to defend herself. A group of hooligans had decided to raid their camp, looking for money and other valuables. As he steps in to try and fight off the attackers, he's struck hard on the back of the head and loses consciousness.

When he awakes, the bandits are gone, the place has totally been looted. And the girl...lying bloodied on the ground in front of him. He cries softly as he crawls over to the body. She's dead, and it appears she has been for some time. No warmth emanates from her. He kisses her one last time.

He tasted blood.

He needed more.

He needed revenge.

Revenge came surprisingly swiftly. He managed to find the perpetrators quite easily, and killed them like they had killed his girlfriend only days earlier. He drank in their blood, their essence, everything. But still that wasn't enough. And eventually, it would never be.

Many across the multiverse saw this image, of a shattered man with no chance for redemption. They think to themselves “I'm going to end up like this. A true monster condemned by the strings of fate”.

If you truly end up thinking like that, you most definitely will.
