Maria's First Kill

Maria walked into the room, finding Luis trying to open the box containing Lupe's key.
“So, you did do it.”
The youth turned around and just gave Maria a cool smile, making her blood boil even more.
“So what if I did? In this place we can't have anyone holding us back.”
The woman tightened her grip on the rope in her hand, the very weapon used to kill her only friend in the class.
“You two were engaged! You were her whole world, there was nothing she wouldn't have done for you.”
“And if her key's the right one, then she gave her life to save me.”
“And what if it isn't?”
She could see his shoulders tense.
“Well, there's always someone just as gullible as her to fall for me.”
At that moment, Maria's vision went red. She quietly approached Luis from behind and readied the rope.
“May God forgive you Luis. May He forgive you...BECAUSE I NEVER WILL!”
Before Luis could react, the rope was tightened around his neck, just above the collar they wore. He struggled to get on his feet, but with Maria's greater height, she kicked his legs from under him and pulled up.
His nails clawed at the vice-like grip Maria had on him, his legs kicking in a vain attempt to try and find solid ground. As the life drained from his body, his hands reached up towards the sky as if begging for God to save him.
“I wanted to help you Luis” She whispered, her voice cracking as tears began to pool in the brim of her eyes, “But now you die here like a dog!”
She pulled harder on the rope, her heartbeat in her ears as she watched the last bit of life ebb from the man's body. After he went limp, she let go of the rope, letting Luis' corpse drop to the ground.
“Maria!”
Professor Bautista rushed to Maria's side, the young woman in an obvious daze. Looking down, he saw his student's handiwork.
“Oh my God, please Maria, please tell me you didn't.”
“P-Professor Bautista...”
She let herself drop into her teacher's arms, her tears finally flowing free.
“I-I'm sorry professor. I'm so, so sorry...!”
The teacher could do nothing but comfort her, the situation being too out of hand for him to ever control. Never in his lifetime would he have expected someone like this woman to ever kill someone.
“Maria. Oh Maria, what's happening to us?”
