- Charity Marathon Featuring Power Plays of Ninja Games?
- Category 1: Power Plays
- - 1CC/Deathless Runs
- - Arbitrary Challenges of Ninja Games
- - Ninja Challenges of Other Games
- Standard fair stuff like 'Beat "Revenge of Shinobi" without Continuing' or beating a game using the 'ninja' character, like '1CC Final Fight with Guy'.
- Could include special things like 'Beat Ninja Gaiden (NES) without subweapons' under the condition so long as the video isn't just a meat grinder. Another is something like "Beating Dark Souls with a katana/throwing knife build", but I think that would best serve as a highlight reel showing interesting strats.
- Category 2: Speedruns
- * Replays
- * Races
- Races are exciting but work best with low-punishment and short games, where you can die or otherwise make mistakes and recover and still possibly catch. It also lets people of lower skill levels play together. Strider (NES) specifically comes to mind as a very safe and learnable speedrun.
- Replays work better for high-risk games, mostly to prevent losing track and also so that the runner can participate as a caster rather than having to focus on the game, and qualify more like a powerplay.
- Category 3: Fighting Game
- I think the game with the most amount of Ninja and is the most accessible for netplay is Samurai Shodown 6, which also has grooves for further variety in the limited roster.
- * Hanzo, Galford, Earthquake, Basara, Sogetsu, Kazuki, Iroha, Gen
- But consider: MVC2 but you must play a Strider based team
- Either could be run as a small tournament, maybe do qualifiers during the month and then run the top 4 on stream or top 8 if single elimination is acceptable (it is just for fun after all).
- I think it could also be interesting to accept some First-To-N sets of other games, so long as both players pick Ninjas, like a Third Strike Ibuki mirror match or Chipp vs Answer in Xrd or Greninja vs Shiek in Smash Ultimate.
- Category 4: Lead-Up Month
- There are a lot of longer-form Ninja games that I don't think we could squeeze into a marathon, or might not have enough pizzazz to cut up into an entertaining segment. For example, I was thinking about how you could beat FF1 with just Ninja, assuming you use a romhack to enable it as starting class. Or maybe you just want to play Ninja Gaiden Black for the first time, or churn through some arcade games with "Ninja" in the title.
- If you just want to engage in a more casual way, just include the donation link somewhere on page or chat or stream and play something ninja.
