With care the fan is removeable. It would be harder if the heat sink is removed. Leaving it attached would be a third hand to hold the assembly while you work. I think jewelers screwdriver, a small knife edge and maybe a few toothpicks would do. A needle nose pliers that can fit the depression would work. I would use small pieces of tubing to hold the fingers in.
