  20. Character Info:
  21. Ebon was born roughly 3000 years before the founding of Equestria, back when pony civilization was still separated into 3 tribes. Ebon, being a pegasus, lived high in the clouds away from other 2 races. He had a comfortable life as a guard in one of the cities, following in his father's hoofsteps. While peaceful up in the sky and his position having him set for life, he yearned for more, keeping the peace in the city was fine, but he felt his training was being wasted. He heard that the land below was dangerous, wrought with monsters and ponies practicing dark magic, wreaking havoc on the innocent. He focused hard into training, the relative peace giving easy opportunity to do so. Soon he volunteered into the Pegasi Knights, a group that went down below the clouds to the ground and offer their services to the unicorns and earth ponies below. He passed through with flying colors, his speed in swordplay unparalleled. Assigned to one of the rally groups, waiting until a threat was seen to go out into action, which while still the same as what he had before, he felt fulfilled.
  22. His new position as backup made his life much more eventful. Although his group wasn't called on much since it was full of the new recruits, he fought with as much fervor as the veterans. His first call was one he would never forget. It was his first time heading down close to the earth below, and what a sight it was. The sight of the trees, the plants and wildlife; seeing the earth pony towns and unicorn cities; this is what he was missing before, all of these majestic places worth protecting. Reaching the rally point, he had his first sight of the undead. A few skeletons, nothing too dangerous, but still a threat. He rushed in, striking back one of them with his sword. To his shock, the skeleton was unaffected despite the impact and distance it was pushed back. It took some time for his group to take them down, but it was a lesson to him, one of the simplest beings they fight and he barely did anything to it. It pushed him to train further, to take on any threat to keep this land safe. He climbed the ranks quickly, his training and skill being well rewarded. He was soon promoted to a captain, being set out to patrol the land and pick out any oncoming threats. His extra efforts were also rewarded, along with his new rank he was given a new sword, designed to fight against the undead that were becoming a growing problem. He took on his new responsibilities with gratitude, his speed aiding in his patrolling, able to take out smaller problems before any other knights could be rallied.
  23. One evening, he was making one last fly over before heading back to the barracks. On the path below, he spotted a mare under chase by two zombies. Simple creatures, Ebon swooped down and dispatched them quickly. He introduced himself as he made sure the mare was ok, and she introduced herself as Harvest Moon. Luckily she only just started being chased and wasn't hurt, but Ebon offered ot escort her home, in case any more might be lurking around. They chatted as they walked back to town, Ebon realizing this was the first time he ever talked with the ponies that live below. Reaching the town, they say their farewells, Harvest thanking him for his help. On the flight home, Ebon starts to dwell on how little him and the other knights interact with the ponies they protect. Requesting a change to his route, Ebon shifts his patrol to go over the area he met the mare at, partially to look out for more undead sightings, but also to meet her again. A few days pass before he sees anyone on the trails again, to his luck its Harvest, pulling a cart full of supplies. He flies down, startling her and making the cart spill some of its contents. Apologizing, Ebon helps her gather up the fallen items as he asks if there's been any more troubles around the area. She tells him there's been nothing, and thanks him for his help, both with picking up and his patrolling. Being thanked catches him off guard, he's been in this line of work because that's what he felt its been the best thing to do, but being thanked, it made it feel... fulfilling, that it was having an effect. Offering to walk her home again, she agrees with a smile, asking him if he'd like to stop at her place for dinner in return. An agreement by both, they head back to her house. Ebon looks around the quaint village as they walk to her house, the first he's seeing of an earth pony settlement up close, so different than the pegasi cloud cities, but still familiar. The dinner passes by, and they say their goodbyes again.
  24. Ebon continues his patrols, more and more he meets Harvest along the paths outside the town. The random passing become scheduled meetings, and soon becoming dates. Receiving some ridicule from his fellow knights for going out with a ground pony, he pays them no mind. One night, on one of their dates, Ebon asks Harvest if she'd like to fly. Confused, she questions how, and Ebon responds with carrying her. Harvest agrees, nervous at being up so high, but feeling safe with Ebon. Carrying her on his back, Ebon soars into the sky, giving her the same view he gets of the earth from above. Overjoyed at the feeling, she thanks him for doing this, and asks if they could head back to her house. Ebon agrees, but continues to fly higher. She questions him in a nervous yelp as they climb, he is silent until they stop at a small cloud, down below the town is visible. Ebon tells her to reach inside the cloud, and while confused, she does.
  25. "You saw what I get to see everyday, being able to view the world while soaring above. But it'd give it all up, the sight, the feeling, all to be with you."
  26. She is struck silent, at both his words and the ring she plucked from the cloud. Ebon slowly starts to descend straight down, awaiting her answer. It isn't long before she turns his head, giving a joyous yes and kissing him. The new couple descend back down to their home, stuck in an embrace as they reach the ground.
  27. With their union, Ebon moves from the floating pegasi cities to the small village Harvest lives in. Despite living on the ground, Ebon continues to keep up his patrols, made easier due to living on the ground where the problems arise. Luckily for them, not much happens, monster and undead sightings having declined. They live a peaceful life, Ebon enjoying the quiet life on the ground, getting more in touch with how the earth ponies live. The lifestyle is more enriching to him, feeling closer to the land he defends. Unfortunately, he has little to offer in the growing of plants, unable to help Harvest with their garden, but he makes up for it in taking care of the afterwork, finding himself a very skilled hoof in cooking.
  28. However, this peace didn't last. A few years later, the worst came to pass. The lull in the danger was cause to a dark necromancer, a pony named Calcifer, who was nearing the point of lichdom. Forcing his power over all the minor threats to build and army, he was finally noticed as his magic started to grow exponentially. All knights, soldier,s and even the guards that guarded the pegasi cities alone were called to arms. Ebon bid Harvest farewell, saying he'll be back soon. Harvest wishes him well, knowing he'll be safe, and watches as he ventures off.
  29. Ebon reaches the front lines, the pegasi stands before a large plain, devoid of life, littered with undead of all kinds and a large castle lying in the center. Somehow this was all hidden from sight, unable to be seen or even noticed magically, but that was nothing to worry about now, they needed to act. The pegasi divided their troops and charged, the soldiers, guard, and newer knights would take on the lesser undead outside, making sure nothing would escape this field of death, with the captains and veterans charging the castle. Ebon and the other's broke into the castle, even worse sights inside. Abominations, amalgamations, skeletal dragons and other large deadly beasts laid in their way, but they continued on, the only priority being the soon to be lich. Slowly the group dwindled, having to hold off the deadly horrors so the others can pass. The dark magics becoming thicker and more noticeable as they delved deeper into the castle. The three remaining ponies reached the door to the inner sanctum, guarding it though was an unimaginable horror, bones and flesh meshed into some beast that should nto function, but still moves like any normal creature. Their time growing short, the other two captains urge Ebon to continue on, holding off the horror themselves, his speed giving them all the best chance at stopping this necromancer.
  30. Ebon charges through the door, it slamming behind him as the captains close it to prevent the horror from chasing after. Before him, he sees the lone pony, Calcifer, standing at the edge of a large ritual circle, arranging corpses and blood about in a strategic manner. He turns to face Ebon, telling him he is too late. Ebon draws out his sword, denying it and charging forward. Calcifer draws up a knife from beside a corpse, having been used to draw blood, and blocks Ebon's blade. The two spar, Ebon's speed being matched by the necromancer, as if he isn't even trying. However, the knife cannot stand against a full sword, and soon is shattered, Ebon passing through and striking Calcifer across the shoulder. He stumbles back from the blow, blasting Ebon back with a blast of magic. He looks down at his blood pooling below him, and laughs. He wipes his hoof across it, and steps into the circle, dark magic pulsing out as he does. Ebon recovers from the blast, drawing out his blade and kicking off the ground, flying towards Calcfer at shocking speeds to stop him. Calcifer raises his hoof, dark magic rising from the runes around him. The magic shoots out like a lance from his hoof, an evil grin on his face as he stares Ebon down. Ebon continues charging forward, rotating as the lance strikes his underside, Calcifer's eyes widening in shock as Ebon plows through and runs his sword through is chest. And then, it all goes black.
  31. Ebon awakens sometime after, lying on the ground in a pool of blood. In front of him is Calcifer, dead, eyes glazed over and a grin still stuck on his face. Ebon stands shakily, relieved that he stopped him before he could finish his spell. However, that relief is short lived as he notices there is too much blood dripping off of him for what he was lying in. Looking down in shock, the entire left portion of his torso is gone, torn through as organs hang and blood flows out. He is frozen, he feels no pain... or anything, but he's standing and moving fine. His mind settles to the only cause, he was dead. That last spell that was tossed, the one that lanced through him must have killed him, the dark magic permeating this place must have seeped into him, raising him back up as the very thing that he spent the last few years of his life fighting. His mind reels at the future, how can he go home, can he even step out of this room? He is an undead now, he would be killed on sight with the risk of all the dark magic here. He couldn't even return home, it would put his wife, and everypony there at risk if found out. He starts to panic at what may happen, looking around the room in a hurry, he sees a passage leading out. Looking down at his sword, he leaves it embedded in Calcifer, evidence that the lich was dead, and hopefully showing that he was too. Flying down the passage to not leave hoofprints, he comes out from behind the castle, a bit of a clearing in the forces that he can make his escape through before him. He flees, zipping into the woods before anypony can catch sight of him. Flying as fast as his wings can carry him, not thinking of where to go, he continues on until his path is met with a mountain. Finding a cave higher up, he lands inside and sits, trying to process everything. His mind runs through all the bad of what happened to him, running through his worries. What will Harvest think, he left her all alone, heartbroken and thinking he's dead. What will the knights do, his sword was left behind, but no body. Will they realize he still lives as an abomination, or assume he was destroyed completely and not search. His mind runs at a million miles an hour, his body refusing to move as he is trapped in worry.
  32. Time passes, seasons change, flesh rots. All that remains of Ebon is his skeleton, everything else having passed long ago. He looks out from the cave, a time unknown to him has passed, in reality it had only been a year. He gazes out, what was the death clearing has started to regrow, the castle now rubble. He steps outside for the first time, his mind settling on this being the best time to see what the state of everything is. He travels though the forest, sticking deep in the foliage until nightfall, reaching the village he called home late in the dark. By chance, he stands at a graveyard, one that wasn't there before. Stepping through, he recognizes names of his fellow knights and of the ponies that lived here. He ends his walk at the central memorial, his name etched into the marble. Reading the epitaph, its clear the graveyard was made in his memory. Looking up, he can see his sword resting on the top. Turning towards the village, he walks, keeping to the shadows until he reaches his house, but cannot bring himself to look inside. He could not bear to see what state Harvest may be in now, and this what not how he wanted to return. He sits in a heap against the fence outside the house, his non existent heart aching at this situation, but his spirit barely holding high that he was kept in good memory. He rises up to his hooves, his mind focusing. He may be dead, he lost everything and cannot return without risking the ones he cares about, but he can continue protecting them. Turning to the clothesline on his house, he rips off a dark black robe. Tossing it on, his body fully covered, he runs back to his grave, and pries his sword free. From here on, he would devote himself to continue defending, fighting back the dark forces in the night they thrive with his undying body.
  33. Years pass, Ebon acting without rest to keep the land in peace. While nothing ever drew close to a risk as Calcifer was, Ebon continues on, doing the only thing he can now. While staying separate from pony civilization, he does his best to check onto what is going on, but he could not bring himself to ever check in on news of his home or of Harvest. He watches as the tribes start to grow closer, working together better. And soon start to fight amongst themselves, one threat he cannot prevent. HE watches as the fighting grows worse, everlasting winter consuming the land. When he hears word that a new land called Equestria was discovered, a land untouched by the cold that plagues his homeland, he does not follow the rest of the ponies that migrate over, not for long time. Only after he finds nothing else living in the tundra, does he move onto Equestria. There he is met with a good sight, the ponies all united and working together under two alicorns, a kind of pony he never heard of, but he feels gracious that they exist for helping bring peace to pony kind. The land is unsieged by anything, dark magics nonexistant, monsters and other beasts contained or unseen in most areas. Feeling lost, nothing to do in his state, he catches up on the history of this land. Reading on the chaotic reign of some being called Discord who terrorized the land. With this knowledge in mind, he devotes himself to traveling the land of Equestria, if something this powerful rose once, there was still threats that could rise again, and there is where he could put himself to use. While minor, he continues to defend as well he can as time passes here, seeing the rise and fall of empires, the fall of a ruler and her eventual return.
  34. One day, Ebon hears rumors of a land, home of the Draconoqui, at the end of some labyrinth. Hearing tales of power and magic, remembering the effects just one could cause back in the early days of Equestria, he ventures back into civilization for the first time, body still hidden, to venture into these dimensions with hope that he may have come across one thing that could possible restore his body, or finally grant his tireless body the rest it deserves.
