Radiant Fury and Brookwind

[06:30:28] * Brookwind is doing detective things that amounted to sitting outside Crossroads and smoking.
[06:31:09] * Radiant_Fury is doing pyromaniac things, like drying herself off from her shower. A nice long shower does a mare good every once and a while.
[06:36:45] * Radiant_Fury exits the showers, a cloud of steam pouring out behind her. She slips her last leg into her tight catsuit mid-stride, and zips it up. A few clasps here, a few zippers there... Done! Time for a walk.
[06:36:59] * Brookwind spins the cylinder on her revolver slowly, clicking over each round as she gazed out over the wastes. She flicks her now-spent cigarette away with a sigh, stepping back into the mall.
[06:38:18] * Radiant_Fury sways a little as she ambles back to the bar to retreive her things. Hopefully nopony stole them...
[06:40:38] * Brookwind steps into the bar herself, adjusting her trenchcoat as she tucked her revolver back into its holster beneath. Taking a seat, she nods to Radiant_Fury as the mare steps in.
[06:41:37] * Radiant_Fury looks curiously at this pony. This must be one of the other ponies that the chef was talking about. "Good evening." She says, trotting to the corner where she had stashed her cosmonaut suit.
[06:42:55] <Brookwind> "Evening ma'am." She replies to Radiant_Fury. "Haven't seen you around here before."
[06:43:44] * Radiant_Fury blinks. Ma'am... "I arrived yesterday. This is quite the settlement you have here."
[06:45:52] * Brookwind nods to Radiant_Fury. "Mhm." She says, offering her hoof to the mare. "I'm Detective Brookwind."
[06:46:36] * Radiant_Fury is standing across the room. With her suit, weapons, and vest on her back, she hesitantly approaches. She glances around. "Fury. It's a pleasure, I suppose."
[06:48:38] * Brookwind nods. "Pleasure to meet you as well Miss Fury." She says. She herself is wearing a trenchcoat, blue tie, brown fedora, white dress shirt, and a pair of glasses.
[06:49:23] * Radiant_Fury raises a brow. "Your attire is..." She fishes around for the right word. "Confusing."
[06:50:12] * Brookwind raises an eyebrow back at Radiant_Fury. "Why do you say that?"
[06:53:09] * Radiant_Fury prods at the long sleeves and coat tails of Brookwind's trench coat. "This coat seems to offer little protection, and these dangling parts are just asking to snag on something. Why do you wear these things?"
[06:55:55] <Brookwind> "I wear a vest under this that gives me a fair amount of protection, and as for why I wear it, it's because it's part of my uniform, you could say. I am a detective after all."
[06:57:50] * Radiant_Fury looks dubious. "A detective?" She asks, sliding into a seat nearby. "What is there for you to investigate out here? What law is there for you to enforce?"
[06:58:30] <Brookwind> "The law of the desency of ponykind, and I'm out here investigating a foalnapping."
[06:59:19] * Radiant_Fury fails in suppressing a laugh. "I think you give ponykind too much credit."
[07:00:24] * Brookwind smiles to Radiant_Fury. "Perhaps I do, but what does it matter?"
[07:01:46] * Radiant_Fury is smiling too. "If the laws you arrest ponies for are based on virtue and feelings, your laws will change too frequently. Who are you to say what is decent?"
[07:03:32] <Brookwind> "The laws I arrest ponies on are the same ones that were in existence before the war. Murder, robbery, assault, rape, foalnapping, and so on. They are very clear on what they entail."
[07:04:51] * Radiant_Fury crosses her hooves. "And who's to say -they- were right? The ponies who made those laws clearly had no qualms about breaking them when it suited them to do so."
[07:06:37] <Brookwind> "Which is why law enforcement existed before the war, to punish those ponies who broke the laws that had been established. I'm not one to say if we're right or wrong, just the one to enforce, but in this environment I have become judge, jury, and executioner."
[07:07:45] * Radiant_Fury raises a brow again. "Blindly and unthinkingly enforcing the law swiftly and without compromise. I like you, Ms. Brookwind. I am a murderer. Are you going to arrest me?"
[07:09:32] <Brookwind> "If you kill a pony living in this settlement then yes, yes I will."
[07:11:44] * Radiant_Fury 's smile turns a little more crooked. "But the ponies before them? Do they not matter? How about you, Ms. Brookwind. How many ponies have -you- killed in your life?"
[07:12:52] * Brookwind frowns slightly at Radiant_Fury. "More than I care to count, Miss Fury. I used to be a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. I've killed hundreds of ponies."
[07:13:13] * Radiant_Fury smirks. "And have you arrested yourself?"
[07:14:55] * Brookwind giggles lightly. "No, but that is beside the point. I suppose you can think of me like a Bounty Hunter."
[07:15:45] * Radiant_Fury nods. "Ah. I consider myself a bit of a bounty hunter as well, though, I disagree. I think it is -entirely- the point."
[07:18:18] <Brookwind> "How so? If there was a bounty on your head, would you collect it yourself?"
[07:19:44] * Radiant_Fury shakes her head. "I can imagine that there is probably a bounty on my head somewhere, Ms. Brookwind. However, I do not claim to adhere to any law. You can't compare our senses of purpose, really. Of course I wouldn't."
[07:24:03] * Brookwind shakes her head. "The law of the Wasteland has always been one of complete anarchy, one that ends in one or both parties getting killed over something that is often trivial. I offer another way that does not result in death."
[07:26:21] * Radiant_Fury smiles. "Sometimes, anarchy is preferable to absolute justice."
[07:28:15] <Brookwind> "Most prefer the latter, actually, but for those times when the former is needed..." She pats her Ranger Sequoia.
[07:28:57] * Radiant_Fury smiles. "That's why I like you, Ms. Brookwind. You claim to practice the law, yet change it to suit your needs."
[07:32:15] * Brookwind nods lightly to Radiant_Fury. "I suppose you could put it that way. My special talent is investigation after all."
[07:34:34] * Radiant_Fury isn't sure what that has to do with anything. "It's been a while since I've had a philosophical discussion like that, you know. It was quite pleasant."
[07:37:13] * Brookwind nods, chuckling a little. "Mmhm."
[07:40:54] * Radiant_Fury floats a cigar into her mouth. "Do you mind if I smoke?"
[07:42:59] * Brookwind flicks her lighter out, lighting Radiant_Fury's cigar for her. "Nope."
[07:43:41] * Radiant_Fury blinks. "I'm quit capable of lighting m own cigar, thank you."
[07:45:44] * Brookwind chuckles, lighting a cigarette of her own. "That may be so, but still."
[07:48:59] * Radiant_Fury looks confused. "But still... what?"
[07:52:33] * Brookwind smiles at Radiant_Fury. "It's a gesture of kidness."
[07:53:44] * Radiant_Fury 's horn lights, snubbing out Brookwind's cigarette. She waits a moment, then her horn glows again, lighting it. "A gesture of kindness."
[07:58:32] * Brookwind smiles to Radiant_Fury, nodding to her and taking a drag off her cigarette,
[07:59:25] * Radiant_Fury relishes in her cigar, leaning back in her chair. "So, you said you were investigating a foalnapping, yes?"
[08:02:10] * Brookwind nods. "Mhm, though right now my efforts have been shifted momentariy to deal with a dual assassination attempt on two of the residents here."
[08:04:28] * Radiant_Fury seems a bit more interested. "Oh? Tell me more."
[08:19:56] * Brookwind nods. "Yeah, an Enclave Remnant soldier tried to kill our overwatch sniper and our gardener."
[08:24:57] * Radiant_Fury blinks. "That sounds very serious. I take it justice was dispensed quickly and without hesitation?"
[08:26:02] * Brookwind nods. "Mhm, the suspect is currently being held down in the bunker under surveillence."
[08:26:54] <Radiant_Fury> "You didn't just murder her and be done with it? For shame, detective. I figured that she'd deserved it by then."
[08:34:31] * Brookwind shakes her head. "No, she wasn't the one who actually did it. She was checking up on the results of the attempt."
[08:35:56] * Radiant_Fury taps a hoof to her chin. "Seems like an odd way of confirming a kill. What happened to the actual assassins?"
[08:36:52] <Brookwind> "We've tracked them to a listening outpost in the mountains."
[08:37:47] <Radiant_Fury> "And killed them in their sleep, no doubt. What further investigation is there? it seems that your work is done, detective."
[08:44:22] * Brookwind shakes her head. "Not yet."
