- a fun fact i have decided because of some recent inspiration... both the architect and the well have their own sort of magic associated with them; 'light' and 'dark' magic, the former of which is typically lumped in with arcane or divine magic depending upon who you ask and the latter of which occupies a weird middleground where it cannot be comfortably squeezed into any of the existing magics but is too minor a practice to be considered a true 'seventh' form of magic; it's simply called shadow magic.
- sun magic involves learning complicated sequences of symbols associated with specific effects and simply reciting those sequences in your mind with few errors--it's a tough kind of magic to learn that is said to require a particular sort of devotion because the symbols involved are alien and mostly meaningless outside of the very specific order and context in which they appear, making it a particularly tough thing to learn as there's no overarching logic to hold onto/help fill in the gaps of memory. it acts about as you'd behave, forming 'scouring lights' and white flame that 'protects from evil' in that most curses and even just strange magical effects are weakened or destroyed in its presence. the presence of sun magic has given many groups a false sense of legitimacy, as if the capability of using sun magic means one is 'ordained' by the architect, but in reality sun magic is tapping into the magic that is just kind of constantly 'sloughing off' of the architect.
- shadow magic is the same thing, accessing and manipulating power given off by the well. shadow magic is an incredibly obscure kind of magic that most people don't even know to exist, and to see a proficient shadow mage would be shocking to most. shadow magic is 'cantrip casted' in the same way nature magic is, and is used for things like manipulating the environment, destroying/consuming things, forming barriers, and forming portals. shadow magic is as rare as it is because it's a capricious and difficult to access kind of magic that, in concentrations required for casting, makes people uncomfortable and sick and manifests in pretty scary looking ways, meaning most people would think of it as 'evil' magic if they saw it.
