  3. Schola Motog
  4. Among the many nations of Oromet, there are small tracts of land that are claimed instead by the Imperium. Settled as a result of agreements between the Imperial colonial government and the cultures that survived Old Night on the planet during its long isolation after the fall of the Terran Federation, these strips of land house Imperial institutions. Oromet’s fortuitous position in the nexus of several rapid Warp currents allow for people to come and go swiftly from the world, and Schola Motog is one Imperial facility that takes advantage of that. A dour, grim, gothic place of storms and rain and driving wind, Schola Motog is the largest Schola Progenium in the Subsector. Deep within the colossal, towering facility, great firing ranges squat beneath reinforced training chambers, history classrooms, genetic screening labs, and chapels. Hundreds of Drill Abbots and Instructors Progenium beat the truth of the Imperium into the lost children of Man, nearly all of them the descendants of Adepts and veterans of the Imperium lost in war or calamity. This describes many Schola, of course, but Motog is different. The great Schola is not only unusually large, it also houses a great factory.
  5. The factory seated on the grounds of the Schola, sticking like a metastatic cancer from the rocky soil, is the demesne of the Adeptus Mechanicus. It is the final home to nearly all of the planet’s criminals that are sentenced to indefinite imprisonment or death, at least among those who do not volunteer for Penal Legions instead. This factory, completely surrounded as it is by buildings of the Schola and far from escape, houses hundreds of thousands of criminals, mutants, laggards, liberals, and others whose crimes against the Imperium or the Oromet government condemn them to servitude. Inside, Adeptus Mechanicus Tech-Priests created a great lattice of manufacturing machines, from forges to presses to assembly lines. These pieces of industry move about on tracks set into the floor, and draw power from hanging cables.
  6. Schola students oversee the prisoners, who labor to death or servitorization. The students here are instructed in the proper way of overseeing the lower castes of Imperial society, such as menials, convicts, servants, and the other beings that any Schola graduate will surely command upon graduation. This service instruction is specialized for the path that the progeny walk. Commissarial candidates oversee the laggards and others who can’t keep up their quotas, Arbites candidates oversee those serving out life sentences for crime. Sororitas candidates and inquisitorial candidates keep thoughts of escape and heresy from spreading among the labor pool, while Tech-adept candidates collect those that have broken and return them to service with augmetics, or even turn them into servitors. Stormtrooper candidates prevent riots and provide security against theft, while Ecclesiarchal and Navy officer candidates command them all, in anticipation of their future roles in spiritual and temporal leadership.

  8. The factory is no mere demonstration, however. Schola Motog is an actual manufactorum of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Its primary output is in polymer sheeting, lithium batteries, devotional icons, and children’s toys. The finished goods are inspected by mind-collared prisoners under careful Mechanicus scrutiny, loaded onto electric trains, and sent off to the main planetary spaceport for distribution. Output during tithe collection periods partially covers the material cost of the tithe.
