"I'm looking for a man. An Arsonist. A murderer." Arlon began.
"Who he killed? No one important, to you. I understand some people in the Capital back home very much care but I'm not here for them. I'm here because..." he paused.
"I am...was...the lawman of a small farming village, a few days out of the Capital. One day I returned from helping out a neighbouring lawman bring down some bandits and as I returned, the village had a new teacher. Fresh from the city, she was. Scion of a noble house, in fact. Only a thirdborn but minor nobility. I never really met her, I only heard about her. Apparently she had received the best schooling in the country as she grew up and the decided this was her vocation. Could have joined the same, best, schools back home as a teacher even."
"Instead she came to us. Said there were enough good teachers in the city, but out here they needed them more. Took probably more guts than I ever had to do that."
"Thing is? Not everyone agreed. One of them...he was basically the appointed magistrate of the town. One man bureaucracy and he grew pretty fat on the graft and 'insurances' and 'loans' he gave out. But he had the certificate from the local lord, so nothing I could do."
"He...decided education was not something the people needed. I mean, if they learned how to count smartly, they might realize just how much he was cheating them. Or what sort of things he wrote into their contracts. So he decided to try to scare her away."
"The school burnt down the at night. And she was still in there preparing for the next day."
