Rural Quebec fag here, I feel ya. The government has abandoned most rural areas all across the country, no idea how they supply the cities though.

Not sure what we should do, we're fine for now but the greens or mounties will come knocking again one day. We got mountains and abandoned mines, wouldn't be surprised if Dwarves sent colonists here. Honestly, their help would be nice.

Don't know how willing the Canuck gov't is negotiate, but when the gun-grabbers in the state gov't tried pushing to take our guns away and dissolve our militias, us mountain pass towns stopped running our patrols further than town limits and stopped clearing the roads; half a year later and the passes were basically impassible. The roads weren't safe from feral orcs, gobbos and other things that linger in the forest, and work crews couldn't maintain even the freeways because of this. It basically forced them to let us do our own thing in return for us keeping the roads safe and open.
Would the Canucks be willing to work out a deal where they let you do your thing so long as you keep the roads clear?

Not really. All they need from our area are the dams, and those are easy to hold by a very small force. They can just resupply the dam guards with convoys or helicopters from time to time, the roads don't need to be safe for civilians: they've abandoned the people here, because we never voted for liberals like the cityfolk always did.
They don't need us, and we don't need them. We've learned to rely on ourselves. We don't need governmental protection or collaboration: if they come over here to take over, we'll make the winter war look like a cakewalk.
Remember the winter war. Now imagine that the entire border was like the northern front. Very few roads, ambushes are easy, and we got wood elves on our side.
I've heard rumors of lone hunters marrying knife ears. The more it goes on, the more our peoples come close together.
The town council is currently debating the merits of letting making wood elves members of the council, and contacting the Dwarves of Nova Scotia. There is also talk about getting our own constitution and a proper government: we've taken control of most towns north of Grand-Mère. We're in the process of securing Hérouxville right now, a town just outside of Shawinigan and Grand-Mère. If we can take control of the nearby bridge, we'll have the whole area under our control, as the 159 and 363 are completely fucked. Collapsed bridges, fallen trees and reports of Greenskins.
A small group of men who joined us happen to be veterans and survivalists. They've brought useful tactical knowledge and information. We're somewhat safe and comfy right now, but that could change at any moment in an instant.

Well that sounds bad, but I've heard that some places in Alberta also are quasi-independent states, and I've heard rumor that there's a large independence movement in BC.
