  1. >its Natsuki's birthday party!
  2. >Natsuki doesn't have a lot of friends, so the party is only the literature club
  3. >you feel awkward being the only boy in a party full of girls!
  4. >Natsuki's house is very messy since her dad is "kinda a hoarder" so you are at Yuri's house
  5. >conveniently enough, Yuri's parents are on a business trip so you five have the house to yourself!
  6. >you met Yuri's parents before they left and it was pretty awkward but you are pretty sure you left a good impression
  7. >they seem to trust you and the bunch so that is good
  8. >when you arrive, Natsuki and Yuri are already there, but Monika and Sayori are missing
  9. >You talk about when you ventured into the sewers a few days ago together, and Yuri talks about how she often goes there by herself so she can sing
  10. >Since the party hasn't really started, the mood is pretty relaxed, but Natsuki seems pretty giddy about the whole ordeal
  11. >You can tell Natsuki really enjoys spending time with her friends, and none of you do it out of pity either. You all enjoy her company as well, even if she can be a little bossy
  12. >After not too long of a while waiting and talking, Monika arrives
  13. >You haven't hung out with Monika outside of school as much as you would've liked, and this fact is accentuated by the fact that you don't think you'd ever seen her in such nice but casual clothing
  14. >Monika has a sleeveless shirt, her hair is in a ponytail, and she has a neon pink backpack over both of her shoulders, firmly holding the straps as if it was a rollercoaster
  15. >She seems giddy as well, but nervous
  16. >She is pretty popular at school, but she doesn't care too much about impressions outside of her closest friends, which consists mostly of the literature club
  17. >But once she takes a seat amongst the circle of friends in Yuri's living room, she settles down a bit
  18. >Monika recently got behind on schoolwork in her efforts to jumpstart the literature club, so she had been catching up on that for a while. Ironically because of her catching up on schoolwork, she hadn't been with the literature club much!
  19. >So for the next twenty minutes, people asked Monika about what's been going on and how she's been doing and recent strange happenings in her life
  20. >Overall, she seems to be doing very well!
  21. >Eventually Sayori does the classic "knock knock knock-knock knock" knock and she is excitedly invited in and excitedly greeted
  22. >She has an oversized backpack that's made to look like a cat's head
  23. >Now that everyone is here, Yuri takes it as an incentive to finally give everyone a tour
  24. >She shows everywhere but her parent's room and the garage, and shows her room the last
  25. >Everyone takes a seat in her room, you, Yuri, and Sayori on the bed, Natsuki cross-legged on the floor, and Monika leaning against the door
  26. >Everyone sits down and there's an awkward silence for a moment before Yuri speaks out
  27. >D-does everyone want to do presents?
  28. >Everyone seems content with the idea, so everyone but Natsuki digs into their respective backpacks to retrieve their gifts
  29. >Yuri gets Natsuki a teddy bear, Monika gets her a jellybean sampler and a pink hardback notebook, Sayori gets her a ukulele, and you give her Yoshi's Island
  30. >despite Natsuki's sassy attitude, she's a very grateful person and really seems to genuinely appreciate the presents
  31. >She even gets a bit teared up over all the support from her friends!
  32. >Monika says "awww!" and Natsuki gives a "buzz off" gesture with her hand but is also grinning widely, so Monika knows she doesn't mean anything mean by it
  33. >Yuri comforts her by rubbing her back and she calms down and gives a final thank you to everyone
  34. >the party resumes!
  35. >you all four gather around a laptop to order two pizzas and a 2 liter pepsi
  36. >while you wait, the four of you show each other YouTube videos, varying in types of humor and length
  37. >Sayori seems to have a very extensive knowledge of cute animal videos, and so she tracks down a handful of her favorites and shows them
  38. >you spend the next few hours amassing a playlist of your combined music tastes
  39. >Yuri likes some weirder indie pop stuff like Animal Collective, a few Xiu Xiu tracks, some Chelsea Wolfe, even a Death Grips song!
  40. >Sayori likes Sufjan Stevens, some Pixies, and some relatively old pop music like We Are Young by Fun
  41. >Monika plays some old school rap like Nas and NWA as well as Japanese city pop like Mariya Takeuchi
  42. >Natsuki plays Israel Kamakawiwoʻole ukulele tunes and some lofi hip hop
  43. >You're adding all the music on Yuri's phone, hooked up to a low volume speaker in the middle of her bedroom
  44. >You pass the phone around, each person adding a few tracks then handing it on, but for the most part its just a pleasant background to an even more pleasant time visiting with your friends
  45. >At some points you and the bunch talk about the music playing, and why the person who added it enjoys it
  46. >At other points you talk about highschool-type topics like what type of jobs you want to get (realistically vs dreamjobs), the pressure of school and society, etc
  47. >You and the dokis also poke fun at each other and share embarrassing memories of themselves and each other
  48. >theres no cutting each other off or any one person talking more than the other which makes everyone happy, especially Natsuki who often feels like she fades into the background in social circles
  49. >eventually the pizza arrives and you continue your conversation with muffled mouths, but it's a lot slower than before
  50. >Eventually the pizza-eating slows down and you're back to conversation, but now you're looking for something to do
  51. >Monika suggests the idea of spin the bottle and everyone seems just as excited for the idea as they are nervous
  52. >in retrospect it kind of feels you're trying to assume the roles of fun-loving highschoolers, because you're all pretty awkward kids and don't really know what you're doing
  53. >but that doesnt matter because you all are having fun !
  54. >Yuri grabs a slab of wood and an empty wine bottle from her garage and sets it up
  55. >Natsuki and Yuri's responses die down because of their exponentially increasing nervousness
  56. >Monika seems slightly nervous but mostly pretty confident, and Sayori seems ignorantly blissful but also a bit nervous
  57. >you spin the bottle and it lands on Monika
  58. >Monika spins it and watches as it slowly points towards Yuri
  59. >Yuri has a dark passive look but once she realizes its pointing towards her she has a delayed reaction
  60. >her face goes pale and her eyes go about as wide as plates it seems
  61. >you cant help but giggle but at the same time you feel bad because you know how incredibly nervous she is
  62. >Yuri tries and fails to fake confidence by saying "alright, l-lets get this over with"
  63. >she leans over the slab and bottle and kisses Monika on the lips
  64. >theres a moment when their lips are touching and her eyes dart around like a wild animal
  65. >everyone is blushing just watching, but Yuri's whole face has turned into a tomato
  66. >the kiss finishes off and they seperate
  67. >Monika has a mischievous smile and you realize she takes some sadistic enjoyment in Yuri's light-hearted embarrassment
  68. >you can tell Monika has done this quite a few times which strikes you as funny and fitting
  69. >"good job, Yuri" Monika says
  70. >everyone nods and smiles, as if they were a bunch of judges for a spinthebottle contest
  71. >Yuri smiles and even looks a bit prideful
  72. >"I'm pretty experienced as you can see" Yuri says and everyone laughs, including her
  73. >Natsuki, still nervous but enjoying herself asks, "have you done this a lot, Monika?"
  74. >She gives a half-nod and then reconsiders
  75. >"a few times, but by no means a lot"
  76. >"you kiss a lotta girls?"
  77. >Monika blushes and laughs "n-no! just a few. its part of the whole shebang!"
  78. >"I bet you'd like to bang a she!"
  79. >everyone laughs at Natsuki's comment, including Monika who doesn't seem to take it to heart
  80. >"I guess it's kinda nice. I'm not bi or anything, but I'm open to it!"
  81. >Natsuki has let down the poking-fun thing and seems to think this comment over thoughtfully
  82. >"It's not anything all that bad, I guess it's just funny to push your buttons over it!"
  83. >Monika smiles back at her
  84. >"I get it. I'm thickskinned, I can take it!"
  85. >everyone laughs at this comment too, and then the game resumes
  86. >you spin the bottle again and it lands on you
  87. >you were already nervous but now the show is on
  88. >all the girls are staring at you with slightly wide eyes
  89. >monika has that mischievous smile still and Natsuki has no expression to hide her half-fear half-excitement
  90. >the bottle does its dramatic slow-down and eventually lands on Natsuki
  91. >she blushes and says "aw shit"
  92. >everyone laughs (including Natsuki a tiny bit) as none of you have heard Natsuki cuss before
  93. >this one is somehow even more awkward then the one with Monika and Yuri
  94. >leaning across the slab is awkward and pressing your lips together is awkward
  95. >at first you and Natsuki's eyes dart around to avoid eye contact but eventually you submit to the intimacy of the act and your eyes meet
  96. >the kiss lasts longer than probably you or Natsuki meant, and eventually the world fades away around you for a second because the moment is a bit wonky and intense
  97. >you eventually separate and sit back, your eyes still locked, and everyone's blushing madly
  98. >theres a moment of pure silence before everyone bursts into laughter, and youre relieved to find the tension has vanished
  99. >once the laughter settles down Natsuki blushes a vibrant red and looks at you with a half smile
  100. >she asks with a genuine tone "c-can we do it again?"
  101.
  102. ~~~
  103.
  104. >You're in Yuri's room again talking and listening to music, occasionally eating a slice of stale pizza
  105. >Yuri seems nervous about something for a minute before she makes her mind up and speaks up
  106. >"This might seem a little strange but w-would anyone like some wine?"
  107. >There's a moment of silence before Natsuki bursts into laughter
  108. >Sayori seems dumbfounded but intrigued and Monika seems supportive and interested
  109. >Once Natsuki's laughter dies down and Monika says "I'll try some if everyone else is down for it"
  110. >A strange expression surfaces on Sayori's face, and she looks hesitant
  111. >You can almost see the cogs working in her head
  112. >She has an expression that says what's the worst that could go wrong and then speaks up
  113. >"Yeah, I'd be willing too I guess."
  114. >Natsuki is smiling, still amused by it, but gives a silent nod
  115. >You agree as well and Yuri looks less stressed out than she was a minute ago
  116. >"I guess that settles it!"
  117. >Yuri heads off to her garage to grab a bottle of wine and there's an awkward moment of silence while everyone waits
  118. >Everyone's intrigued but no one's what you would call an "experienced wine drinker" like you imagine Yuri must be
  119. >Monika says
  120. >"Have any of you guys tried alcohol?"
  121. >Sayori says "one time I drunk some of my mom's drink when she wasn't looking! B-but that's all"
  122. >Natsuki says "nah, but I've always wanted to try it"
  123. >you ask
  124. >"what about you Monika?"
  125. >She gives you a wide eyed look for a sec then settles down for a moment in thought before saying
  126. >"Just a few times at parties, but not enough to go haywire or anything! I don't like the idea of being "wasted""
  127. >everyone seems confident with this answer and waits contentedly until Yuri returns with a bottle in one hand and five cups in the other
  128. >She hands one to each person and then settles back into her seat
  129. >She pours a very small glass, probably to not be intimidating to everyone else
  130. >The bottle gets handed around and everyone else has a similarly small amount of wine
  131. >Sayori and Natsuki take a sip and grimace in unison and you, Yuri, and Monika laugh
  132. >"taste a bit off?" you ask
  133. >they both nod in unison again which is greeted by another wave of laughter
  134. >there's another minute of silence where you all drink the rest of your small glasses and go in for a second cup
  135. >Everyone continues the conservations and music as usual, but now there's a bit of an awkward underlying vibe due to the newfound circumstances
  136. >Eventually after the third or fourth cup, the bottle is nearly empty. Yuri says
  137. >"I think maybe we shouldn't open a new bottle, if that's okay with everyone."
  138. >Everyone seems okay with this
  139. >Natsuki seems a bit offset, probably because her small body is more receptive to the alcohol, but she seems happy, and now that you take the moment to notice, everyone seems a little less highstrung
  140. >Yuri leaves to put the bottle away and comes back
  141. >"How is everyone feeling?"
  142. >The general consensus is that everyone feels mostly the same but with maybe a minor headshift
  143. >Natsuki says "a tit bipsy" before quickly correcting herself, which gives everyone a good laugh
  144. >Eventually it's midnight, which means that its time for the night to slow down a bit, but no one expects to be going to bed for a few hours
  145. >You end off the night by watching a horror movie
  146. >You all eventually agree to watching The Shining since you and Yuri are the only people who've seen it, and since its such a classic
  147. >Everyone has slightly different reactions to the movie
  148. >Monika seems engaged and giddy, Sayori seems heartbroken about the violent scenes but shocked by the scary ones, Natsuki seems indifferent to the revolting or shocking things, but very interested, and Yuri seems to be watching meditatively, as if trying to enjoy it both as a work of art and as a story to be immersed in
  149. >Overall, everyone seems to enjoy it!
  150. >Near the end of the movie when Jack Nicholson's frozen face is suddenly revealed, Natsuki lets out a screech and jumps off the couch before calmly sitting back down, which gets a laugh out of everyone but Natsuki who is still immersed in the movie
  151. >When the movie ends, everyone agrees its probably time for bed
  152. >Yuri pulls out blankets for everyone but you and Sayori came prepared with sleeping bags
  153. >You all lay in Yuri's room, with Yuri at the farthest left, then Monika, you, Natsuki, and Sayori
  154. >You talk a little bit while laying down but one by one everyone has zoned off to sleep except for you and Natsuki
  155. >You and Natsuki are feeling a bit strange from the alcohol, not to mention tired from the long day and half-asleep, but before you fall asleep you say "I hope you had a good birthday, Natsuki."
  156. >she says in a slurred voice
  157. >"It was the best birthday of my life"
  158. >"That makes me happy to hear, Natsu"
  159. >"And I enjoyed kissing you"
  160. >She laughs for a moment, but its more of a happy laugh then a mocking laugh
  161. >"I did too, Natsu"
  162. >There's a moment of peaceful silence between the two of you
  163. >Natsuki rolls slowly towards you and lays her head on your shoulder, barely conscious
  164. >unless she's pretending
  165. >"Goodnight, Natsuki. Sleep well."
  166. >"you too anon..."
  167. >and on that note, you drift off to sleep together
