In 1999, Los Angeles is racial war zone with the army and LSPD and SWAT officers fighting Afro-American people. The former cop Lenny Nero is a dealer of illegal recording in CDs that gives the memories and sensations of the recorder to the user. He buys the recordings from the supplier Tick; he misses his former mistress Faith, who was a hooker and now is a singer; his best friend is the private eye Max Peltier and the limousine driver Lornette 'Mace' Mason, who has unrequited love for him. Two days before the turn of the century, the black rapper Jeriko One is murdered. The hooker Iris seeks Lenny out but there is an incident and they do not talk to each other. However she drops a recording into Lenny's car while he unsuccessfully tries to meet Faith at a night-club. However her boyfriend Philo Gant does not let them talk. When Lenny learns that Iris was sadistically raped and killed, he gets involved in a sick scheme and discovers dirty hidden secrets.
Lenny Nero deals in dreams. Formerly an LAPD vice cop, he now deals in illegal 'squid' recordings - recordings made directly from the cerebral cortex of the participant, which allow the viewer to feel and experience everything the participant experiences as if they were there. One of life's perpetual losers, he ekes out a lonely, miserable existence at the end of the millennium, still pathetically yearning for his beautiful ex-girlfriend Faith, a beautiful singer, and is dependent on his friend Macey, who both loves him unquestioningly and despairs for him completely, in equal measure. But Lenny's life is about to be shattered; when he is anonymously sent the recording of the brutal rape and murder of a prostitute he is acquainted with, he and Macey soon find themselves reluctantly embroiled in a dark web of murder, blackmail and intrigue amid the civil unrest surrounding the suspicious death of an influential, politically active rap singer. Lenny and Macey are soon running from Faith's brutal manager, Philo Gant, and a pair of menacing police officers, as they try to uncover the connection between the two and stay alive long enough to see in the millennium.
It&#39;s simple really. Strange days is magnificent. It&#39;s gripping, exciting perfectly directed and acted and the atmosphere is yet to beaten. Why do I say all this? simple really. I think it&#39;s the best film ever. I do. Really. Never before Strange Days had I seen a movie with as little pretence as Strange Days. While lots of people will argue that, for instance, Pulp fiction is at least as good, I will always counter with &quot;and pulp fiction really likes to show it&quot;. Pulp fiction oozes best film, whereas Strange days earns it. Right from the gripping first minutes up to the climatic countdown to 2000 it just takes you by the throat and doesn&#39;t let go. Especially noteworthy is the acting of the then fairly unknown ensemble cast, especially Ralph Fiennes and Angela Basset in the lead roles and Tom Sizemore as Max are really amazing. Something that always bugs me when reading negative reviews about this film is pointing to it being unrealistic and the story being weak. I disagree with both of those. Strange days is uberrealistic, and forces us to think about ourselves. Those people saying the movie isn&#39;t realistic should check their own state of denial. Strange days simply shows what an excalation of rascism, which I believe is currently happening, will do to a nation. And to those who say the script isn&#39;t good I have one word: sub-plots. While indeed the basic idea is just good-evil, the small sub-plots make the whole script more than worthwile. I have seen the movie five times now, and I have noticed small details which, before, I had missed everytime.<br/><br/>So if you haven&#39;t yet seen this great movie and are open-minded, go see it now.<br/><br/>You know you want it :)

Due to the combination of violence and sex, approx. 11 seconds were removed from the British Version. No, there were only the two rogue cops, one of whom had killed Jeriko-One in a fit of anger after being goaded by him during a routine traffic stop. He and his partner then went about trying to cover their tracks by attempting to kill Iris who had witnessed it all and destroy the recording of the incident which she gave to Lenny. Max made up the story of the death squad to prevent Lenny from going to the police with the recording and everything he knewJeriko-One was killed by two rogue cops which was witnessed by Iris. Max then killed Iris on behalf of Gant. Gant had been using Iris to spy on Jeriko-One and knew that if his music artists discovered he was secretly recording their every move he would be ruined. Gant also requests that Max kill Faith, however Max is secretly having an affair with Faith so he takes the opportunity to kill Gant instead and attempts to frame Lenny for both his and Iris&#39; murder  a5c7b9f00b
