  1. So I noticed there was something going on with SMRPG and turbo mode, and I thought, i would start some discussion about MLSS
  2. Should it be allowed for this game? I'm not an expert about SMRPG what I say could have even be changed by the time I finish this
  3. I use SMRPG as a comparison because it is also a Mario RPG and the battles and main mechanics are similar
  4.
  5. The main points that SMRPG had for this I read were not really to save time on Text Mashing, but rather to save hands
  6. It would make the run more enjoyable, and would definitely improve the health of hands (For my experience at least)
  7. Of course it would make, text go by faster
  8. For MLSS, you do not only have to have to mash through text
  9. Some parts of the game and cutscenes, you need to just mash for some reason
  10. The opening cutscenes is an example, if you do not mash the whole time, you just lose 10 seconds
  11. For MLSS, you only need 2 A presses to remove a text box, it isn't a set amount of time or scrolling
  12. I'm not sure what the standard is for turbo but on the controller I have been using, it has different settings
  13. I tested only the first 3 1/2 minutes which is the opening cutscenes, bowser fight, up to free movement
  14. The highest setting, 20 (I assume inputs per second) saved about about 2 seconds
  15. I can see this adding up throughout the run to be atleast a minute probably around 2 which is substantial in the Any% run
  16. Of course there are different points of the game where amount of text is higher and lower so it might not be a set second:minute save
  17. This was the main point that SMRPG used to allow this
  18.
  19. There was a problem, that did raise an issue but was deemed not significant which was with the battles
  20. You could have frame perfect item use, and menus within the battles
  21. In SMRPG and most of the Mario RPGs however, timed attacks are important
  22. So turbo couldn't be used for most attacks because, it would ruin attacks due to "strict" timing windows
  23. Because many of the battles were timing based and relied on Super Jumps, it was too insignificant to matter much
  24. This is a problem for MLSS though because, the final 3 battles consist of mashing in order to win
  25. I have done some testing with my current item route and there is a few differences with the final fights
  26. I haven't done anything with birdo, Bowletta stays the same, Cackletta 3 hits instead of 4
  27. This isn't much imo, for cackletta the biggest thing is being able to survive
  28. There is definitely a route that is faster where you get more items, to defeat all 3 a turn or full cycle early
  29. Normally you need to be able to do at least 15 hits with chopper bros to be able to beat Cackletta
  30. Obviously you can do much more with turbo
  31. This is the biggest problem
  32. Using turbo, I see an "optimized time" being under 1:10:00
  33.
  34. For other battles, turbo is mostly a hinderance
  35. The menuing in battles has some pretty strict timings in order to menu quickly
  36. Just using turbo would actually be slower because it does not hit the right timing
  37. You would get what I call "slow attacks" which are about 1/2 seconds loss for each one
  38. For battle menus other than attacks (Bros. Attacks, Items) turbo also should not be used
  39. With Bros. and regular attacks, turbo could make you miss the timed hits like in SMRPG
  40. With items , the the d-pad/control stick is used more and there are none where you press A multiple times
  41. Turbo could chose the wrong option or heal the wrong Bro
  42. For menuing outside of battle, Turbo also would hurt the run for the same reasons
  43.
  44. Through running this game for years, it is hard on my hands, especially the way I practiced to mash and get faster
  45. For some reason I've seen some people mostly "noobs" talk about unfairness
  46. People make jokes about how I'm OP because I mash pretty fast
  47. Sometimes people jokingly talk about me like I'm some god with my fingers
  48. This sometimes gives people expectations like I always just destroy bosses easily
  49. I don't feel bad about anything as most people jokingly say this, but there are some bad memers in the bunch
  50. Seems like a few people don't acknowledge what I've done with this game, and chalk up my times to mashing fast
  51. I don't actually care about these guys, they says it's unfair for others which is pretty dumb
  52. That being said, it would definitely boost other peoples times up,
  53. there wouldn't be my time, then the next times 4-10 minutes slower
  54. It would put everyone not on a fair playing field, but an even one
  55. It would make everyone faster, which I don't think is a problem, because with new optimizations, theres new standards for what's "good"
  56.
  57. Overall, I think turbo is a cool idea
  58. I've ran this game for years. I'm a little bit biased because, yeah my hands hurt.
  59. I also don't like having to mash text for like 50 minutes, out of a run thats an hour 15 minutes
  60. My main problem with turbo is that it changes the final boss fights
  61. The difficulty and mashing during the final fights is one of the most enjoyable things about the whole game, for viewers and runners
  62. If there is a ruling that turbo was for text mashing only, I would be in favor for it
  63. That's all mine thoughts for now.
