- "It's Oriover"
- I looked at the girl who had flopped herself onto my desk and chuckled. "What's with that lame pun? It won't catch on." She raised her head to reveal her adorable pouting face and scowled at me, her yellow eyes cutting deep. "It'll catch on one day, and you'll be sorry that you weren't one of the first adopters." I couldn't bring myself to imagine such a world where her, where Shiori's silly nonsense would be fashionable, so instead I decided to ask her what was wrong. "So, what's over?"
- Shiori lifted herself up and slammed her hand down onto my desk, only after following her arm down did I see she had been holding a piece of paper, it was our organic chemistry test. "Oriover, and this, I have to take a makeup test, and if I fail that one too, well, I'll have to stay for lessons over summer break and there's plenty of stuff I wanted to do with y.." Shiori trailed off, mumbling and covered her face as she looked away from me. It's true, her test scores were pretty bad, but they weren't completely impossible to fix. That's when I got an idea, I could fix her. Her test scores I mean, I don't think there's much to be done about the person herself, not that she needed it, but I'd never tell her any of this.
- "Hey, Shiori. Shiiiori, Miss Novella~" I called out to her to bring her attention back to me. Turning back, Shiori shot me a foul glare. "What, going to make fun of me? You'll be fine, you scored well, again. You can go have fun with everyone else for summer and I'll just, I'll just.." No good, she was beginning to tear up, just what kind of future was she imagining? I sighed and lifted my hand to plop it on her head, scruffing the white and black hair beneath a little, which seemed to calm her. "Look, it's not -oriover-. I'll help you study, that is, if you want?"
- Shiori's expression changed instantly as she smiled a big beautiful smile. It always took my breath away when she did that, and this time was no different. "You would?" She had grabbed the hand I had been patting her head with and clasped it in between hers tightly. "That'd mean the world to me, really." I had done it now. With this much of an expectation placed on me, I couldn't fail her. "Yeah, let's study after school, how about the library?" Shiori nodded and spun around, that was too cute, why was she so cute. "I'll see you there then." And she skipped back to her seat with an enchanting spring in her step. It was a date then.
- After school we walked together to the library. Light chatter about future summer plans and going over the subject matter for the afternoon. It seemed like my work was cut out for me, but we would take it one page at a time, and luckily we had our textbooks to work from as reference. When we reached the library, there were only a few people inside, so it was easy enough to find a quiet space in the corner where we could be alone. Nobody would be able to see us either. It was perfect. We pulled out two chairs on the same side of the table in front of us, dropped our bags to the floor and retrieved the necessary materials. It was time to begin this private lesson, for the sake of a bright and eventful summer.
- For the first hour, I thought things had gone rather well. I explained each of the main ideas before setting the example questions for Shiori to answer, and when she had most of them correct we would move on to the next set of problems. I'd praise her for doing well out of the gate and unable to resist her eyes glowing with excitement, gave in and ruffled her hair a bit which seemed to motivate her to keep going.
- But, that motivation soon ran out, and I felt that over the past few minutes Shiori had been inching closer and closer toward me, our chairs practically touching as she leaned over and rested her head on my shoulder. "You know.." She started, "Maybe we should change subject, just to keep things fresh." What was she saying? I turned my head to reprimand her and saw that she had undone the top button on her shirt, her pale flesh exposed, and even the top of a black lacy bra peeking through the corners. 'How about, biology? I'm pretty good at biology."
- I gulped. No good. We can't. Not here anyway, even if nobody is around, it's still the library. Not to mention Shiori needed to study for the make-up test. If we started fooling around now, all of the past hour would be for nothing. I dug my hand into my leg, gripping hard and with my other hand grabbed the textbook. Forgive me, Shiori, but this is for your own good. Raising it above my shoulder I softly bopped her on the head with the spine. "Oww, hey," she exclaimed sitting up straight and rubbing the spot I had hit. "What'd you do that for?"
- I gathered my resolve and faced her. "Shiori, you have to study." I stated firmly. "If you don't do well on this, then we won't be able to practice more biology over the summer break. You want that, right? I. I want that. Now come on, focus." I felt myself getting a little flushed in embarrassment there. I know what I was implying, and I know she knew too, because similarly she also turned a shade of red. But, I don't think Shiori was satisfied with my answer, as she quickly frowned and fastened the button again, hiding her bosom from my gaze, next, without warning she stood up and walked to the other side of the table, facing me. Pouting she plopped herself into the open seat and shot back "You seemed interested the other day, when I did that think you liked, but fine, have it your way. I shall continue to study."
- Idiot! What was she even saying? It's true that we may have been engaged in our own extra-curricular lesson, and I may have enjoyed a few of the things we had done, but what did that have to do with organic chemistry? "Oh, and don't think I forgot that time when you begged me to--"
- "SHIORI"
- I shot up out of my chair, throwing myself over the table and covered her mouth with my hand. Her lips felt soft against my palm as her muffled voice protested. But I wouldn't let go. Not until she had finished. When I was sure she was done, it was my turn to speak. "Look, we'll have more time to be together over summer after you pass this." But, I recognized she was genuinely trying, so I had to give her something. I took a deep breath, moving my hand from her mouth to her cheek and pulled her in a little closer, while I also bent myself down so our faces were at the same height. Shiori was staring deeply into my eyes, and I stared back. Then, though it was just for a moment. I pressed our lips together and we kissed. It was truly only for a moment, but it felt longer.
- I released her and sat back down, we were both dead silent, unmoving, just looking at each other. "Does that please you? Will that be enough to tie you over until you finish? Is that enough of an incentive to have you continue to study?" my barrage of questions hit Shiori as she looked down toward the textbook in front of her again, "Yeah." She nodded and picked up her pen and started doing the next problem. I could tell that we were going to be just fine. She was going to pass, I had faith in her.
- Several days later, I was waiting outside the classroom, nervously leaned against the corridor wall, waiting for Shiori to finish her make-up test. Suddenly, the door flew open and Shiori bounded out, almost jumping into my arms. It was a good thing I had been up against support, otherwise I would have fallen over with her. After we composed ourselves I just had to ask, though, considering her cheerful mood, I already knew. "Well, Shiori? How did you do?" Shiori broke into that wonderful smile again, no, this one was even more radiant than the one she had shown me back then. Lifting the test paper up for me to see with one hand she struck a peace sign. 100%. Full marks. "I aced it," she reported cheerfully. "And I can't wait to spend summer together with you~."
