  1. Yusha being born was mostly a flash in the frying pan of his early memories. His father, Leech, explained that his duty was to observe and protect the planet Earth. Since Leech always put such emphasis on the value of "home," Yusha reasoned that his father intended for him to make Earth his home. So he did.
  2.
  3. Yusha first met Ra not long after being born. He was a peculiar creature -- bald with three eyes and donning an extravagant turtle shell -- but Yusha's skepticism melted away when Ra explained that he knew Leech and in fact knew that he would send his child to him. Yusha had been left out of whatever pact the two elders had made, or perhaps hadn't existed at the time, but after confirming the relationship Ra had with Leech, Yusha was inundated with curiosity.
  4.
  5. He had surmised that he was sent here to make Earth his home, and he knew that "home" was very important, but Leech had taught him little else. What was his true purpose here, exactly? Did Ra have the answers? He was born here of course, but it seemed "home" was more than simple originating from a place.
  6.
  7. The ageless man explained that he would not just be Yusha's mentor, but his new father henceforth as well. He called it "adoption," and Yusha found the concept curious. However, with adoption would come to his apprenticeship, and the possibility of true purpose profoundly encouraged Yusha to do as Ra told. First with adoption, but eventually with much more. He learned that home was indeed important, but it's value meant one must learn to protect it. Yusha's earliest bouts of training involved plenty of martial arts and ki manipulation lessons despite his overall lack of talent for combat.
  8.
  9. As Ra's lessons continued he explained that he intended for Yusha to succeed him, eventually. That Leech had agreed it was the best use of Yusha's potential. It had all been predetermined. Yusha suspected that a more rash personality might be offended or encouraged to rebel after learning that so much of his life had been "on rails," but he found himself at peace with the concept of a plan. It felt divine to Yusha, somehow. The two people he respected most had made a decision to foster a protégé for the good of the planet Earth and her people. If they felt it was right, Yusha had faith that it was. So he never questioned his place, and purpose, ever again.
  10.
  11. Yusha learned that observation was of the utmost importance as the Champion of the Earth and that involvement was usually unnecessary. "King's rise and fall, Yusha," Ra explained, "and just because they conquer does not mean they are evil or that the Earth is in danger." It was a concept that Yusha struggled with, at first. Ra would allow his people to die to needless violence? Allow one man to reign above the others? It sounded exactly like something that the "Champion of the Earth" should oppose, to Yusha.
  12.
  13. "Know that men and women have conquered one another since before you or I have existed and they shall continue to long after we're gone. It's a part of their nature. Concern yourself with matters of genocide and planetary annihilation, but not with the squabbles of crowns and fiefdoms," Ra carried on. It was then that Yusha understood -- and indeed, accepted -- Ra's stance on intervention. They should look to protect the planet itself and the populations upon it at large. They should look to intercept threats to the natural order and plan to protect the world from a great evil but to deny everyone their very nature would be an exercise in futility. In fact, it would make them little more than tyrants imposing their will on an entire world and it's people.
  14.
  15. The young human matured quickly and proved himself to be the sort of pupil most masters only ever dream of having. He was insightful and respectful, followed rules to the heart of their intention and design, and he proved to be powerful even in the martial arts he had feared a lack of talent for, initially. All was going precisely as Ra and Leech had planned.
  16.
  17. Until Ra disappeared. There was no explanation. Yusha's training was not complete. He still had much to learn and Ra still had much to teach, but one day when Yusha emerged from a long session of meditation, his mentor was simply gone without a trace. The young human reached out with his senses across the globe and could not feel his mentor. When he scoured the planet manually no timely traces of Ra could be found. Yusha was alone and largely unprepared for what had to come next -- after all, he had been sure he would have more time. Those things would go according to their divine plan.
  18.
  19. Ra taught Yusha a very valuable lesson that day.
  20.
  21. Things don't always go as planned. Not even the wisest, most powerful, and most good-spirited individuals in the Galaxy could devise a plan that the Universe couldn't derail. Ra left nobody else behind in his place. No other successors or assistants or students. There was only young Yusha, profoundly concerned and profoundly alone, left recalling a thought he had when he first arrived, here.
  22.
  23. He had surmised that he was sent to train under Ra in order to make Earth his home, and he knew that "home" was very important, but Leech had taught him little else. What was his true purpose here, exactly? Did Ra have the answers?
  24.
  25. Earth was his home and home was the most important thing. His purpose was to protect it against the darkest evils the Universe might send their way, and send them it would. Ra taught him that, and if he was gone now there was only Ra to step up in his place as the Champion of Earth. Though the struggles of darkness had made this Champion a bit more neutral in the grand scheme of things, Earth would always be protected under his influence.
